I'm a vegetarian considering being vegan in the future and am horrified by carmine and gelatin. The way they secretly put in into common foods without a warning label is shocking. Definitely avoiding red foods and jelly-like before reading the ingredients list. Thanks for the informative video. Also am so happy my favourite Lays Magic masala and hide&seek are vegan snacks.

Yeah, most people have no clue about Carmine and gelatin being non vegan. Since it doesn’t sound like they have any dairy product in it. But it’s even worse than that 😅 And yesss.. most of lays are vegan!!! 😁😁😁

I just checked Britannia treat. The orange and strawberry flavours have milk solids in them. Btw, Hide and seek's bourbon is vegan. Amul's kaju katli is vegan. Dark chocolates from Amul are vegan.

Haldiram khatta mheeta, says it may contain milk... I don't understand what they mean by "may contain".. Do they not know what they are using? Please help in finding if it's vegan. Thank you.

It usually says that because the products may be made in the same factory that also makes other products that contain milk. So they are forced to write that. But that doesn’t mean the product contains milk. It’s something that companies are legally made to do..

I’ve already mentioned this in a comment here. It often says *May contain milk* not because the product has milk in it but because the factory where it’s made may have other products being made where milk is used. Hence according to FSSAI, it has to be mentioned, as it can be problematic in case of allergies and all. But the product itself will be fully vegan if the milk doesn’t come in the ingredient list.

I think soan papdi have ghee Ghee used to roast chana ata and mix ata with sugar ( rechecked yes it contain milk also )

No, it has no ghee in them. I have checked the ingredient section of the product. Atleast of Haldirams. And it has no ghee or milk or milk products in them. The only non vegan products from Haldirams is gulab jamun, rasgulla and punjabi tadka. Every other item has no non vegan ingredient in them.

It usually says may contain milk because the products may be manufactured in factories which has other products that have milk in them being manufactured there too. It doesn’t mean milk is an ingredient in the product itself.

That is a warning given by any brand that has any other product which may have milk which is being made in the same factory. But that doesn’t mean milk is in that particular product. This is made mandatory by FSSAI and hence they have to include in their packaging. Anything that says ‘may contain’ comes in that category. If it was in the ingredients, it is mandatory to be included in that.

Very informative video. Just like to add a note here and an interesting thing I found in almost all the vegan products including those that are listed here is palm oil. Well, we all assume that palm oil comes from palm trees and would have no second thoughts about it. But when one carefully looks at what palm oil actually does to the ecosystem- you will be surprised to know that is one of the major causes of deforestation and habitat loss. Species like the Sumatran tigers and many others will soon go extinct because of palm oil production and when we use products which have palm oil, we will surely be contributing to this cruelty. So, how far do we go.. this is up to the individual choice that we make. Nevertheless, very glad to hear the fact that people are becoming more aware of the vegan concept. At least, this is a starting point!

I’m aware of the issues of Palm oil but it isn’t just Vegan products that use them, because of its cheap nature when compared to the other oils. So I feel, atleast choosing away from using milk solids on every snack product out there is a definite start since animal agriculture is worse than palm oil. And hopefully in time, the issues of palm oil will also get addressed.🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽

The original one of Maggi doesn’t have milk solids.. I’d checked and given the ingredients in the video too. It may be other flavoured ones that you checked. I’d mentioned in the video that could be the case for other flavours. But the original one doesn’t have any in it.
