Edit: I'm still reading into this and get contradicting information :( Make shure you heat lentils long enough. Raw or undercooked lentils contain phasin. Although red lentils seem cooked easily, getting rid of phasin takes time.

I have had trouble with lentil patties/burgers falling apart when they hit the pan or when I flip them, even if I add a bit of binder like breadcrumbs. I solved this by letting the formed, uncooked patties rest in the fridge for maybe 30 minutes. It definitely helps keep them from disintegrating when they hit the hot oil.

Use chia seeds, place them in very warm water and let sit, it will turn into a gelatinous consistency and this will help as a binder. Also, do not fry them. You can coat them with avocado oil and bake them which is much healthier 🙏🏼💜

This is the most helpful comment section I’ve ever read on KZbin. They are definitely worth reading before making this recipe. Placing the mixture in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before frying and making sure the pan and oil is hot enough seems to be the most common suggestion to make them easier to flip. A lot of people mixed in a small amount of flour or chia seed gel as a binder. There are several people suggesting additional spice variations for flavor. Someone mentioned wrapping them into a tortilla and adding sandwich fixings (lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, avocado or whatever you prefer) and condiments or sauces. Another person put them on top of pasta and added pasta sauce. Wow!! Thanks for sharing. It’s great to see everyone contributing.

These look delicious and I'm certainly going to try them, but as someone who's been making veggie patties for years I find that the insides are soft and squishy if you just cook them in the frypan. Brown them in hot oil as shown, but if you want them truly firm, pop them in a pre-heated oven on 180 deg Celcius (350 F) for 15-20 minutes and they'll be absolutely perfect.

For others who are thinking about making it, this recipe is mild in flavor, so you can add your own seasoning to it, make it indian or other way. I divided the batch into the original recipe and second batch into indian style with these ground seasonings: cumin, coriander, cayenne, clove, tumeric, cinnamon, and more salt and pepper. Overall, successful recipe.

Excellent thanks for the recipe. The key to the patties not falling apart when you cook them is to use soaked split lentils and beans. Never cook them beforehand or use canned lentils or beans. It's the same principle as when makeg falafel. Never use cooked chick peas and or fava beans. Soak them for a day or so and use the food processor to grind them up with other required ingredients. Never fails.

I just made these today. They were awesome, even my husband said they were good. I cooked 2 small patties in the same pan with dinner just to see if I would like them, and I loved them. I did read the comments and I added some all purpose flour as a binder and after making the patties, I Iet them sit in the fridge for a few hours. I did pan fry them longer than the recipe said until they were browned and quite firm. My husband said they would be good made small and placed on top of a salad. You could dip these in anything you like. I will be making the rest to bring to work for my lunch all week. I'm going to try to cook one in the air fryer. I've been wanting to eat more lentils and this is a great way to do that. I'm not vegan and I would make these again.

The air fryer did cook them but it didn't brown them the way pan frying did, even though I sprayed them with oil. I prefer them cooked in a skillet. In a skillet I am able to get a dark brown crust on the sides. I served them cut up with mayo, siriacha and sliced pickles on a flour tortilla and it was delicious. I precooked them all in a skillet and will see how they hold up when I bring them to work for lunch, I don't think I will reheat them.

Hello! Thank you for your comment and visiting my channel! Good tip, thank you!👍 I love Chua seeds and flaxseed! If you place patties mixture to the fridge for 30-60min before cooking the patties they will hold together perfectly too! Have a nice weekend! 😊❤️

We just add tye soaked chia seeds or do we include the water as well ( in which the seeds were soaked)?? Sorry if it is a dumb question- new to cooking :(
@vikasarman Жыл бұрын
@natashajain9086 Chia seeds absorb all water. It's impossible to separate it. Mix it and add to the mix with confidence. As I'm vegan for 10 years, I learned many tricks bit by bit. I use chia seeds instead of eggs in any patty mix, pie, hotcakes mixes or dough, etc 1 egg = 1Tsp chia soaked in 1/4cup water for 20min aprox. Cooking and eating healthy is the best! Once you get your first dishes right, you'll love the feeling! Best of all on this wonderful journey of learning to love your body!

Thanks for verifying ground flaxseed works as a binder. I'm trying to avoid eggs, used as same, in case I take a dish to a group I don't know. Less chance of allergic reaction.

I respectfully disagree. Unless you're aiming for an absolutely smooth puree, the different ingredients (except for powders, obviously) should be sized roughly the same before you start the processor. Otherwise, the lentils (in this case) will be finely pureed into pablum by the time the whole carrot is chopped down finely enough. That pablum consistency would not bind well at all, and would therefore be no good at all for making patties!

This is the best Yummy vegan patties I have ever made sofar and I have tried so many version. You can make beef or meat ball size or all on pan for slices. Thank you so much for your inspiration. I forgot to pull the water out and did not get the water properly out of the red lentil before adding it all together, therefor I added just two spoon of chickpea flour to hold it together and it taste so good. Next time I will pull out the water but check pea flour is just perfect as an extra. I used the patties for taco flat bread with crispy salat, red onion and my own dressing by Hemp seeds with dry dill, a little fresh lemon juice, salt and pepper with a little water for creamy texture in the blender. Yummy I can tell. I feel so good and I have for days. I recommend this. Huge love and thank you,.

I made these today and I can say a few things about the recipe. 1. Add more salt, or add a spice like curry or what you like because the final patties once done are a little flavourless. 2. I combined all methods in the comment section (added 2 tablespoons of chia seeds in warm water for 10 minutes soaking before adding to food processor, added 1 tablespoon rice flour, and once formed into patty shapes I refrigerated for about 30 minutes.) They clumped together while frying like a dream, and did not stick to the pan even though I was using my great grandma's old, soviet pan. That's saying something. I didn't have as much lentils (about 190g), so I added 2 grated small potatoes (raw) into the mix, and it was delicious. Made about 9 patties. ❤Everything cooked through, but I am going to try cooking them solely in the oven at 180 degrees tomorrow, because frying in oil made them unhealthy.

These are great! I used a Vitamix (with wand) and it worked well. I substituted tomato paste and a splash of water for tomato purée because that is what I had on hand. I may add more spices next time, or try basil, cilantro, dill, or different herbs. For folks who are saying you have trouble with them falling apart, maybe make sure the pan/oil is hot enough? My first one stuck to the pan a bit too, but I turned it up a bit (just over medium for my range) and the subsequent patties turned out well.

Tried this and it was delicious! One thing I had trouble with was flipping it. I tried it a couple times but it was a mess. So I added about 2 table spoons of oat flour + a teaspoon of baking powder then baked it in an oven. It came out perfect! Thanks for the recipe!

Hello! Thank you so much for your comment and feedback! if you place the mixture in to the fridge for 30 - 60mim you should be fine with flipping it as it helps to hold patties together. I am so happy you like the patties! Wishing you a nice day! 😊 💖

Oh, I'm so glad to hear that you baked them. I didn't like the idea of frying them, since we are trying to go oil and salt free. THANKS.

1:39 - That is not parsley, it is cilantro, although both would work. An excellent idea, now I know what to make with my big batch of lentils! Thank you!
