Key info is that the "dunes" are not normal wind-driven dunes. They were formed by glaciers and will not be rebuilt by any natural process. In the state park section, there is a cool 3 dune challenge

I've been here, but as pretty as this place is, it really would be more suitable to stay a National Lakeshore than a full on National Park.

Why would it be more suitable? The Indiana Dunes is one of the most complex and diverse ecosystems in the entire world! It benefits more with national park status and receives just about as many visitors as Yellowstone national park each year.

Bicycles, ebikes and escooters are great options for last mile, short distance travel. Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles by providing safe, protected bike lanes and trails. Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly. Bicycles are healthy exercise and fossil fuels free transportation. Electric bicycles are bringing many older adults back to cycling.

Why is this a national park? Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore north of the park is way more impressive

The area surrounding Indiana dunes isn't a great area. As the person above me.basically said, I believe this was changed from a "national Lakeshore" to a "national park" in order to have access to more money and to be able to protect a larger area of land along the Lakeshore. If the area around sleeping bear starts to become way more developed or the area becomes threatened by people and industry the way Indiana Dunes park had, they would do this too.

Sleeping bear is unbelievably impressive - for me, protection of Indiana Dunes is wonderful....we need to protect these places - hopefully SBD is next.
