I have a theory about box office numbers that some people (wealthy 1% type folks) might not like. So, everything is so fecking expensive right now because corporations are operating at peak levels of greed and reporting record profits… that normal everyday people are having to decide whether to give their money to the greedy corporations making their food or the corporations making movies(which are also not paying writers for their work…also related to peak greed). So we are choosing to feed our families and not see movies this summer…especially since most of these films will be on our streaming services soon enough, also something we are already paying for. Thoughts?
@bebo2629
@bebo2629 Жыл бұрын
Inflation is not caused by companies just deciding to be greedy. Companies always want profits. Inflation is caused by supply chain issues, the pandaic (also to do with all the money thrown in to it by the goverments, but not as much) and less energy and food supply because of the Ukraine war and general uncertainty and confustion on the market (it is easier to charge more if prices are changing a lot and are hard to compare). So your theory is wrong when it comes to what causes inflation but yes, in economically hard times people are more carefully when it comes to spending their money and I am sure that this has some influence on ticket sales, but I am not sure this works as the main explenation. There are a lot of movies that seem lame with lame marketing out right now while there is also real competition when it comes to entertainment. Why watch Elemntal or Dial of Destiny when you can watch Spiderverse 2, a movie everyone is talking about and that was well marketed and got good reviews.
@Monkey-fv2km
@Monkey-fv2km Жыл бұрын
I don't think it is specifically an economics issue, cinema has been expensive for decades... And now there are streaming services and affordable uhd TVs, which people became accustomed to during lockdowns. Movie theaters have just been pushed out of the market by more convenient, cheaper alternatives.

I found it to be a damn fine film! Watching the previous 4 films and then watching this film you really understand the life of Indiana Jones from 1912 to 1969 and you see all his ups and downs and by this movie you see where hes come from... It's very good action but not as memorable as the previous films... I've only seen it 2 times so far but overall it's pretty kick ass and enjoyable

I feel like that’s where Helena’s annoyance kinda peaked in the film and she started getting better after that bit, but I get you, they really need to take a moment there. At LEAST here they acknowledged that death, if it were in a new Star Wars film they would probably gloss it away or something…

Spoiler: . . . . . . I think what I really respect about this is that the ending was such a swing for the fences. I think the temptation would be to play it safe with this, after the last one wasn’t received well, but they decided to go all out, and I think that’s really cool.

I feel like Dial of Destiny missed a trick in reintroducing Short-Round as Indy's like "first son" especially after the loss of Mutt and have Helena's connection through Short-Round vs introducing an unnamed, unmentioned, unseen goddaughter. She can still be the focus but it would've been great to have Ke Huy Quan back in the franchise and I think the film would've resonated more especially hearing that he has to come back home to his time from someone who saw him as a hero and go from defiler of history to protector of man would've been a nice send off for Harrison Ford while breathing life into a new chapter of the franchise.

I remember when George Lucas referred to the original Star Wars as "very low budget," so I don't know if I buy that it was super expensive like Maso says. It was in the VHS version of the Special Edition box set documentary.
@Michael_ORourke
@Michael_ORourke Жыл бұрын
The original Star Wars cost $11 million, which adjusted for inflation would be $57 million today. The new Indy movie cost $300 million. They could make 5 original Star Wars movies for the cost of one new Indy movie. I wish Hollywood would learn this lesson and make more focused, better written, lower budget movies that actually stand a chance of making money, instead of bloated $200-300 million movies.

@@shinobi-no-bueno Didn't see the Flash so. I didn't really go into it with any expectations bad or good, and I enjoyed it and thought it avoided some issues I was afraid a project like this would have. I think the reason DOD isn't doing great is actually Tomb Raider. Indy never had the power to make new fans the way Star Wars did, so most of the people who loved the originals are people who saw them at the time. These are not movies you get your kids to watch growing up or anything. Add to that the fact that in the late 90s and early 2000s Lara Croft was bigger then Indy EVER was (in more ways then one amiright), there is a large group of people looking at this and thinking "I saw the Tomb Raider movies and the sucked, why would I go see a knock-off?"

It wqs distracting.They couldn't establish a proper age for him in the first flashback, in some scenes he looked like he did in raiders, in others he looked early 50s, and his voice sounded like he was in his 80s. Why they didn't just dub it with an impersonator is beside me.

59:00 You could tell Indy was just making that up at that point, right? I thought it was really clear he specifically came up with just anything to make the villain second-guess his plan. I think seeing Archimedes in his time grounds those scenes a little more. If it was more ambiguous and he just showed up at the end of the sequence it would've felt a little one dimensional. I really think a big factor all of these movies arw "flopping" is because of the overinflated budgets. There's no reason a fifth Indiana Jones movie needs to be more expensive than fucking Star Wars was. I know its not completely in their control, but it's also not like they are paying the crew and fx teams either so they need to budget better since I'm actually impressed that this movie made as much as it did at all.

If I had a dial of destiny I would go back in time and watch Snake Eyes in the theater.

I was expecting a SW:TROS, bt Indy5 turned out to be SW:TLJ, an ok movie with plenty of problems, but a lot of great scenes as well. Overall enjoyed it, 6/10 and the fourth best Indy movie.

Honestly, had a lot more fun with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull than Dial of Destiny, but it was still pretty good. I would definitely like it more if instead of at least one chase we had a proper amount of time for the characters.

I enjoyed this film. The uncanny valley wasn't too bad with the de-aging. The film was about 20 minutes too long in my opinion, and I don't think I could name more than 3 character names.... and one of them is a nickname. People just don't like seeing old characters grown up with ZERO character development. They want Luke/Han/Indy/etc... to just be exactly the same as they were in the 80's with nothing being different. It's a fine film, was a bit too long, has plenty of fun moments, cameos and action with some very nice looking stunts. There was one moment where two vehicles are driving from one place to another.... and the one that leaves 2nd somehow gets to the destination 1st... ages ahead of the other vehicle, I don't understand that yet. 2nd viewing needed I guess. [edit: carried on listening and me and James are on the same page with the movies length, nice to know]

Honestly, I'd like for there to be a animated continuation of Young Indiana Jones. You get Harrison Ford to book end it, be a bit more educational and have Jones Forrest Gumping the place up.

Am I the only one who liked the Mutt character? I thought Shia was solid in that role with what they gave him. The Tarzan moment was stupid but that's not his fault

They decided to change it. Every time they say “defenders” they would play the defenders of the earth theme, so they just took the two and mashed em together

It was fine. Not as bad as I thought. Not as good as Crystal Skull. Helena Shaw was terrible. Makes Mutt Williams look incredibly likable by comparison which is amazing in itself.

I find so weird how americans complain so much about the most silly movies, they talk about it like its the fall of western civilization. I saw the movie with my dad, the oldman had a blast, maybe because he is not involved in the lucasfilm holy war 😂
