WOOHOO! I love #1 and #2, but #3 is my absolute favorite. The father-son chemistry between Harrison Ford and Sean Connery was fantastic and introducing Indiana's father goes a long way to explain why Indiana ended up the way he did. Side-note regarding the line, "we named the dog Indiana" - George Lucas really did have a dog named Indiana as a young man writing Star Wars, and not only did it serve as the inspiration for the name, Indiana Jones, but he also would drive around with Indiana in the front seat, and being that Indiana was a BIG dog (Alaskan Malamute), it also gave him the idea of a "dog copilot" that eventually became the idea for Chewbacca in Star Wars as well. Cheers

Regarding Indiana Jones taking his name after the dog: During the early years, you may have noticed an Alaskan Malamute dog in the house when Young Indy arrives with Coronado's Cross (which BELONGS IN A MUSEUM!!!). George Lucas, who was one of the co-creators of this series, DID have an Alaskan Malamute dog named Indiana that would always ride shotgun in the car among other places. Not only was this Indiana the inspiration behind our hero's name in this series, but also the inspiration behind Chewbacca from Star Wars. Hope you're doing well. 😀

BJ: The airship you were remembering was the Hindenburg, a German airship. In 1937 It flew from Germany over the Atlantic to land in Lakehurst, New Jersey. As it was landing it exploded in flames. Because the ship was filled with hydrogen instead of helium and was much more flammable (along with other factors that became known years and decades later), the ship burnt to just a steel frame. Many people died. The tragedy is most remembered by the words of a radio broadcaster who was supposed to be covering the landing, but ended up describing the tragic scene with great detail during which he said "Oh the humanity!" while he was sobbing.

The exterior of the Temple of the Son toward the end of the movie was actually filmed outside a legit ancient structure, the Treasury of Petra in the country of Jordan. The city of Petra is listed as one of the 7 Ancient Wonders of the World because the whole city was carved out of stone in 400 BC (2400 years ago or so). It's a tourist attraction, but it's also protected by the World Heritage Fund. They're still making cool archaeological discoveries about the city.

@@centimarsiosolas6971 It's been an International Heritage Site (or some similar title) since the 90's. Petra is a city with buildings carved in the stone, not one building. Some people live there, some people have businesses, a lot of them are protected or active archaeological sites. They were functional buildings, not caverns and stuff. The interiors used for Last Crusades were sets. They only filmed them entering and leaving that one structure.

You're right. The reason we don't travel in giant blimps is that one caught fire and was destroyed. In 1937, a German blimp called the Hindenburg caught fire and crashed while mooring in New Jersey, killing 35 people. That pretty much spelled the end of traveling that way.
@davidhowell7279
@davidhowell7279 Жыл бұрын
The reason why we don't travel by blimps is because around the same time, travel across the Atlantic by airplane took about two days less time. Sure, it was much more comfortable and luxurious but, way cheaper and faster by plane. Blimps were just faster than ships. The hindonburg accident was just the nail in the coffin. If planes hadn't come along, I think that they would have figured out how to make it safer. I would have loved to have tried it. It sounds like it was very bougey. Champagne and caviar anyone?

The Hindenburg burned because it was filled with hydrogen, which is extremely flammable. Helium is much safer, but was in short supply at the time. On KZbin, you can find the radio broadcast from when it was being reported live. Ever heard someone say "Oh, the humanity"? It came from that. The first Led Zeppelin album cover used a picture of it. Zeppelin is the name of a German company that made airships like what you see in the movie. When the band started out, they got a comment from The Who drummer, Keith Moon who thought their sound would "go over like a lead balloon". Or a lead zeppelin.

Indy was reaching for the Grail because he felt that only if he could give it to his father could he truly get his father's love. He didn't want the Grail or its power either. When his father got his attention by calling him Indiana for the first time in his life, and told him to just let it go... Indy finally understood he HAD his father's love, and had no need of the Grail, and so too did he let it go. Elsa wanted it and its power. She couldn't let it go, and when the time came that brought her to her death. So too would that have snared Donovan, had he lived. Niether could the Knight, and that kept him entombed alive for 700 years. In the end Indiana and his father were the only ones who made the correct choice regarding the Grail. They used it, they had their miracle, but then they let it go, because such miraculous powers are not meant to be kept by any human forever... only to God does the Grail belong.

Great reaction! This is one of my all-time favorite films! I saw it years ago when it came out and have loved archeology and history ever since. I've been to the Holy Land 4 times - the last three as a volunteer and each time is just as thrilling as my first time. You feel like you are walking through the pages of the bible. Perhaps you guys will go there one day as well!

Final scenes are filmed in Petra in Jordan. Petra itself was once a lavish oasis which was built out of rock and it had water systems running throughout it for irrigation of crops and other plants. You might catch sight of one of the gullies that moved the water cut into the rock. It is an absolute beauty of architecture. Love Indiana Jones films.

As someone mentioned the original three were inspired by the era of the Thirties and Forties. The next movie, Crystal Skull, was inspired by the fifties and sixties lifestyle so it is very different in style but it is also a commentary on the time it is set in just like the original three were commentaries on the times they were set in.

Been waiting so long for this reaction!! So glad you loved it - this one gets me super nostalgic. Credit to my mom: we had Last Crusade on VHS, I wonder if anyone else remembers the Pepsi commercial on the tape that had "Indy" saving a woman from the perils of her kitchen that played before the feature film. As a kid it felt so real. I even had an old wooden stick horse that I'd "ride" singing the Indiana Jones theme at the top of my lungs. 😂😊 Further credit to my mom is that she always told me and my sister that young Indiana was played by River Phoenix, she always made sure to teach us about the greats and especially the ones that left us too soon. River is such a great actor - please check him out in Stand By Me. I've recommended it before and will always recommend it. He's even younger and is such a talented kid actor, in a film full of great child & young adult actors. Can't wait to see what's in store for this year's reactions!!! P.S. for tv reactions, I've seen others request this and I'll jump in: please check out The X-Files and Twin Peaks in the future, 90s classics! ✌🏻💖

The craft the Jones' flew in out of Berlin was actually not a blimp, although the blimp is related. They are called airships, and come in non-rigid (blimps), semi-rigid, and rigid forms, rigid being the type that was in the movie. It had a metallic frame forming its shape, and hydrogen (helium nowadays, as its safer) was filled inside it to give it loft. Airships move under their own power, using a series of propellers. The airplane docked underneath was for emergencies, and had nothing to do with the airship's propulsion. BJ mentioned an airship blowing up, and was likely referring to the Hindenburg, a huge German airship which, filled with hydrogen as they all were back then, was easily ignitable. It contributed to the decline of airships in general, and today the only ones in regular use are blimps. Airplanes are more advantageous overall than airships, however airships do have a few advantages over planes, mainly that they carry much more cargo, and can hover in place, allowing them to deliver their cargo directly to areas not near a landing strip. A few people are trying to bring airships back into regular use for cargo and human transport, but not much luck so far.

If I remember correctly, the cross belonged to Cortez. You two kids crack me up. Love your reactions. The Hindenburg is the zeppelin you are thinking about. The Hindenburg disaster was an airship accident that occurred on May 6, 1937, in Manchester Township, New Jersey, United States. The German passenger airship LZ 129 Hindenburg caught fire and was destroyed during its attempt to dock with its mooring mast at Naval Air Station Lakehurst. The accident caused 35 fatalities (13 passengers and 22 crewmen) from the 97 people on board (36 passengers and 61 crewmen), and an additional fatality on the ground. I'm with Miss Asia, I'll stay outside and hold the horses.

Connery and Ford have great father son banter, and their scenes together in Austria are hilarious. The moment Henry sets the floor on fire, the entire castle escape is like a slapstick comedy as they run around being chased by nazis 🤣🤣🤣 John Williams definitely had his work cut out with the mix of whimsy and dark scenes, as Last Crusade whips back and forth from comedy to darkness (Indy's wacky youth to a boat explosion, library antics to a suicidal boat chase, trouncing nazis in Austria to a book burning 😬). He and Spielberg keep the tone shifts from giving the audience whiplash somehow and it is quite a feat.

Also in the beginning part when Indy runs into his house, you see a dog. That's George Lucas' dog, Indiana which inspired the crearion of Chewbacca in Star Wara and the name of Indiana Jones.
