When Marty told Doc: "The old man laid him out in one punch. I didn't know he had it in him, he's never stood up to Biff in his life!" You can see Doc thinking about it when he said "Never?" I think, in that moment, Marty planted the seed in Docs head that maybe, just maybe he could get away with messing with the time-space continuum. And THAT'S why he taped the letter back together and read it.

This is an Iconic Trilogy!!! Hands down!!! The Judge with the megaphone for the band tryouts was Huey Lewis of Huey Lewis and the News. He wrote and performed most of the songs on the soundtrack for this movie.Even the one that Marty's band auditioned with. And, the funny part of Asia's comment,"They are so square," is that Huey Lewis and the News have a song called, "Hip To Be Square"!!!

Yep. And a couple of years later,, Huey Lewis was asked to do the theme song for Ghostbusters, but turned it down because he didn't want to become "the guy who writes movie themes". If you watch again, something to watch for is at the beginning when Marty goes to the mall to meet Doc, it's the Twin Pines Mall. At the end when he goes back to save Doc it's Lone Pine Mall. When Marty went back to 1955 he mowed through the twin pines on the guys property and left only 1. That's where the mall was built.

This movie is taught in screenwriting classes as the perfect script. Every line is there for a reason, every plot point has a set up and a payoff. Themes are introduced (like all the clocks at the beginning with how important time is) and repeated for a paid off as well. Just perfection. Deloreans were cool in the 80's but as time went on they were shown to be notoriously unreliable. The "too darn loud" guy at the audition was the singer Huey Lewis. The Twin Pine Mall at the beginning became the Lone Pine Mall when Marty returned to 1985. Oh and they put real alcohol in the flask when Marty takes it from Lorraine to prank Michael j Fox. in the car scene.

They didn't mention how Doc and Marty met each other, but I have a feeling that Doc was on the lookout for Marty after meeting him in 1955 and helping him get back to the future, but had to keep from telling Marty anything. It's a fantastic movie, love all the little time-travel Easter Eggs, like the mall being called Twin Pines Mall until Marty went back and ran over one of Mr. Peabody's trees, thus changing it to Lone Pine Mall. BTW, if you guys are going to finish out the trilogy, if you want to avoid spoilers, stop the movie at "To Be Concluded...". Parts II and III were filmed back-to-back, and they include a trailer for the third movie at the end of the 2nd.
@Michael755792 жыл бұрын
The movie's full of little in-jokes and Easter eggs. Apart from the Twin Pines / Lone Pine thing that you mentioned, we have The ledge on the clock tower is broken in 1985, but it's whole in 1955 until Doc breaks it. Marvin Berry rings his cousin Chuck to get him to listen to Marty playing Johnny Be Goode, a song that was written by Chuck Berry in the original timeline. The "Sorry, you're just too darn loud" guy in the audition is Huey Lewis; Marty's band are playing a Huey Lewis song. We see a "Re-elect Mayor Goldie Wilson" van at the start of the film; Marty is the one who gives him the idea to run for mayor when he meets him in 1955.
@rocketdave7192 жыл бұрын
@YT That's very true; in the original timeline, Doc obviously wouldn't have known that he was going to meet Marty. Frankly, I kind of like that the movie doesn't feel the need to explain to the audience how this teenager became such close friends with an elderly crackpot inventor.
@whade620002 жыл бұрын
The director and co-writer (Bob Zemeckis & Bob Gale) actually addressed that fan question. Doc would be known to the local kids (and parents & teachers) as this reclusive lunatic, which'd naturally only make some of he kids more curious. So Marty'd sneak into his lab and find all the cool stuff he had. Doc found him and was actually happy to have human contact with someone not scared of him, so they'd become friends with Marty essentially part-timing taking care of the lab and feeding the dog while Doc is out.

Some other trivia. One of the clocks in the beginning had a man hanging from it just as Doc was hanging from the clock near the end. The first clock was based on a scene from a Buster Keaton movie. The man who played Martys grandfather also played prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi in helter skelter. Billy Zane played one of biffs friends and I think it was his first movie. He was the bad guy in Dead Calm and Rose's fiance in Titanic. The actor who played Marty's older brother played Jimmy Olsen in the Superman movies with Christopher Reeves. Marty's uncle (what's a rerun?) is the older brother in the wonder years.

I'll point out an even deeper detail. You have to look closely. George uses his right hand, but every so often his left hand will twitch, but then he subdues himself. When he punches Biff, it's with his left hand. If you look closely, most of his actions later are from his left hand. Why? ... George is naturally left-handed. Being left-handed back then wasn't supported. The suppression of George as a person is mirrored by him being made to use his right hand, which is not natural to him.. When George finally finds the confidence to stand up, he embraces the fact he's left-handed. It's symbolic of George embracing all the "weird" attributes he has, especially his story-writing. Rather deep if you think about it.
@@Tobelia It was pointed out to me years ago, and it made me rewatch "Back to the Future" again. When I caught on, my jaw dropped a little. I also started picking up a LOT of nods, hints, and subtext that gets missed a lot. This is a deeper movie than people suspect.

I love watching people react to back to the future, acknowledged as one of the great comedy scripts of all time. It is still studied by screenwriters today. Michael J Fox was also the star of a top sitcom called, family ties. He was shooting back to the future around his shooting schedule on his TV show and was only catching a few hours of sleep a day. Originally Eric Stoltz was in the Michael J. Fox role but when they watched the dailies they realized he didn’t quite work in the role, even though he was an excellent actor. I'm so happy you guys got to this. I love this whole trillogy. Brings back my childhood. A few fun facts if you don't mind: the band judge who told Marty he was "Just too loud" Is actually Huey Lewis who wrote and performed the song Marty's band was playing. He also does the ending track "Back in Time". The joke is that Marty played the song in too much of a rock way over the original. That's why "Huey" says it's too loud. As in he didn't like his song played in such a way. Lmao! The singer in 1955 who sliced his hand, when Marty begins to play "Johnny b.. Goode", he calls his cousin, "Marvin". "You know that sound you're looking for? Listen to this!" Meaning Marvin Berry who actually wrote and performed Johnny B. Goode. The mall at the beginning is called the Twin Pines mall. When Marty goes back in time to 1955, he runs over one of Mr. Peabody's two pine trees. So when Marty gets back to 1985 and gets to the mall, the sign now says "lone Pine" mall. You'll notice a lot of amazing details like this throughout the 3 movies. Sometimes you notice new things each time you watch them. I'm so excited for you guys to finish the trillogy. P.s. at the end of Part 2 there is a "Teaser" for part 3. Please pause the movie before this. It has too many spoilers in that clip. If you don't watch that, part 3 will be more of a surprise. Thank you for this channel guys. You're awesome. Edit: I see now that a lot of people already told you about the spoilers after part 2. I apologize for over pouncing on that. 😉 Edit: oops. I got the Marvin thing wrong. The singer is Marvin... his cousin is Chuck Berry... who actually wrote the track.

When Marty went back in time the first time, the mall was called Twin Pines Mall. When he went back to the future, the mall was called Lone Pine Mall. That is because Marty accidentally ran over one of the farmer's pines when he arrived in the past.

Fun fact, all the high school scenes were at my school, Whittier High. I wasn't there for the original but was there when the 2 and 3 were filmed. Awesome time and watching the movie brings back a lot of memories from my young days! My nickname was Goldie and came from Mayor Goldie Wilson...Great review again guys!

The car had to break down. The universe had to step in and avoid a paradox. Every time. First time - he was headed to town. It would've caused a huge commotion driving a spaceship looking car into town in front of so many people. 2nd time - had he hit the gas when the alarm went off, he would've gotten there too early. Lightning struck the clock at 10:04, but it could've been 10:04:30. 3rd time, if he showed up to the mall too early, maybe the other Marty sees him, and he freaks out and doesn't go back in time - creating another paradox. Watch the fan theories - so much good stuff.

I totally forgot that part in the beginning! That part where Marty is auditioning for his high school talent show, that geeky teacher who turns him down is Huey Lewis, the guy who sings the theme to this movie "Back in Time"! (You may also remember he sang part of "We Are the World" just before Cyndi Lauper's part).

When he first went back I was like, "but where's he gonna get plutonium in 1955 tho?" Then I realized that you can't even get plutonium in any time or era really, lmao 🤦🏾♂️ Not unless you do some shady deal like Doc did, but Marty ain't about that life. Nor are 99% of the people on earth.

LOVE your reaction to this fun movie, especially because you ‘got’ almost everything. Doc Brown is what we called a “Mad Scientist” -a brilliant ‘NUT’ who has more quirks than one can imagine. In those days, it was frequent to find a guy in the neighborhood who clicked with kids, and became friends and due to their age, could help kids fix their bikes, build things, etc. Of course Doc Brown had a speaker the size of a truck with an amplifier to match! (and yes, when you turned up a big amp in those days, that sound would happen). I hope you caught the references to Marvin Berry’s cousin, Chuck, when Marty was playing John E Begoode. Another subtle joke which is again attributable to Doc Brown’s quirkiness was when he showed Marty the miniature town and then apologized for not painting it! Watch the sequels, kids, they are fun. Some Debby Downers will tell you they are not as good, but not true if you are someone like me who falls in love with the characters. Enjoy! Looking forward to watching your next movie reaction!!

The two of you - plus Jay and Amber are my favourite movie reactors. You get so excited - and are so passionate. You're ALL so much fun. Definitely do the sequels. Could you please also do The Secret of My Success? It's another hilarious one with Michael J Fox. It's a business setting - but tons of fun - and has the BEST music in it. The Money Pitt with Tom Hanks - about house renovations will have you both laughing out of your chairs. It's SO funny. Cheers from Canada!

Doc and Marty meeting is never explained but presumably its some sort of bootstrap paradox where Marty meeting Doc in the past prompted Doc to seek out Marty in the future causing Marty to go to the past in the first place but Marty going back to a different future timeline than he left kind of breaks that theory.
