I had to laugh within the first couple of minutes because my first whip was also from Todd's Costumes, and my training also came from Adam Winrich's videos! Loved the video and the title really got my attention too!

Thank you, my dude! Meant to name a few other Indy whip guys but my brain was melting under the 100 degree sun lol. Makes you wonder how HF did it when filming Raiders

Great video! It is too bad that the use of the whip kind of fades throughout the movies. If only someone like Anthony De Longis had worked on the original films, Indy could have been quite the whip cracking machine haha! That Trinity whip is absolutely beautiful!! Really love the color. As for which way to align the natural curl of the whip, my understanding is that holding it with the curl facing forward (away from your hand and body) creates a louder crack, but takes a lot of arm and shoulder movement. Aligning the opposite way so it rolls out creates a more precise and effortless crack, but it is not quite as loud. So I guess it comes down to what you want to do with the whip haha! Thanks for the awesome content!

Thanks for the comment! I think the whip conceptually works better in a more fantastical setting (like for instance, "Zorro", which is where Lucas got the idea for it). In the more grounded world of Indy, there's only so much you can do with it before it gets a little campy. But cracking them sure is fun! And thanks for the insight on the two methods of cracking -- my experience definitely lined up with what you said!

When I bought my first whip from Lee Keppler, I also bought a VHS tape called The Art Of The Bullwhip. The video stated that before you start learning to crack, you should go buy a motorcycle helmet, leather jacket and leather chaps. I didn't and all I can say is that the pain was exquisite! I learned quickly what not to do. I have since gotten better at cracking. I've had several David Morgan whips (6' 8' & 10') which I sold on eBay years ago. I bought a 10' from Wall drug in South Dakota that's pretty nice. I have a custom made 9' whip from Paul Nolan at Midwest Whips as well as a 4' one from a seller on Etsy. Good video!

LOL. That's great advice! Though the Indy gear holds up pretty well under self-inflicted whip wounds!

Nice video! I bought a Todd’s 8 footer a few years ago, and now have a custom made 9 footer, LC style from Mario at MJG whips. The Todd’s is a great practice whip to see if you like it before committing to a more expensive whip. Whip cracking is definitely an art, and a lot of fun once you become familiar with it! 😃

I have a David Morgan 8 foot whip, same style as Raiders. When I was learning to use it I caught myself across the back and shoulder and actually cut the skin over my shoulder. 🤠

I went to every single channel of Indiana Jones cosplayer to see to learn how to crack a bullwhip. Now I am trying to do tricks with my whip, I also went straight to 8ft and then 10ft.

There are definitely a lot of great Indy cosplayers out there to learn from. Thanks for stopping by!

I’d like to point out there is a reason jones carries a bull whip and a revolver. Pistol for avoidance of risk and one for when conservation of ammunition is needed and I firmly disagree if someone came at me with a bull whip I don’t think I’d wanna deal with that type of shit lol

That might be the lore reason but the reason he carries a whip is because of Zorro. Lucas copy-pasted the idea like so many other ideas for Raiders

Indy didn’t care about damaging his whip, it was a companion tool which he would replace when required

Hahah yeah and he had about 15 in reserve from the prop department if one got destroyed. Most of us aren't that lucky or well-heeled.
