I mean, RK and QBG just brainstormed better character arcs and dynamics. And look, I GET it! As a writer, I get that it is easier to point out the faults in a book and come up with fixes and make it better AFTER its been published. But wtf, that is what redrafting is for. Lucas taught Labeouf about greaser culture and how to handle the comb switchblade. He was from that generation so whatever Shia presented in the 50s boy was at least influenced by Lucas himself. Maybe thats why Kennedy axed the character.
@Fardawg
@Fardawg Жыл бұрын
Indy, like Han and Luke, represented the type of heroes Lucas and Spielberg looked up to as kids, with some of their own generation mixed in for flavor (especially with Luke and Han). Mutt represented Lucas's generation of greasers and hot rodders trying to find their way in the world under the shadow and in the footsteps of the older heroes, ultimately learning from them what it means to be a hero and a good human being. Kennedy has destroyed all of them in order to replace them with herself as the "real hero" people should look up to. That explains everything Disney has done to these franchises: get rid of the old heroes (as representations of the "old" ideals and morals) and set up their own heroes with the "ideals" and "morals" (a lack thereof) that they find superior. And I'm not a fan of Crystal Skull, by the way, but I do think it will seem much better after this nonsense.

Indiana Jones and the Search For Atlantis Movie opens with Indy at a banquet receiving a lifetime achievement award for his contributions to archaeology. He delivers a brief speech. He's gracious and charming yet also distant. Those in attendance applaud. Indy walks back to his table where we the audience discover that he's there alone. He gets praise from the people at the table. He smiles. Background chatter commences. Camera locks on Indy. His smile fades and his expression turns solemn. His mind is somewhere else. Background chatter continues. End scene. Scene opens with Indy alone at home or in his office. Camera pans to his award. Lying next to it is a letter or document detailing upcoming end to his tenure as professor and retirement. Indy is depressed. His days of adventure are long behind him. The days of being a professor are winding down. So much for for the hero riding off into the sunset. He's an old man being put out to pasture. In the background the camera conveys some information to the audience. A folded American flag. (son died in combat) An open book. It's Plato's description of Atlantis. Notes scibbled in the margins. Indy pours himself a drink that looks like it could be the same clear liquor Marion drank in Raiders. Flashback to Indy and Marion getting the news of Mutts death. We see Indy withdraw into his work. (like his father) This sparks his obsession finding Atlantis. (Like his father with the grail) His marriage with Marion becomes strained. She leaves him. End flashback. Scene opens with Indy's final class ending. The student file out offering well-wishes. A male student leaves an apple on the podium. A faculty member approaches. Asks Indy what his plans for retirement are. Indy answers sarcastically. Maybe I'll take up painting or golf. Faculty member suggests taking a trip. This time as a laid back tourist. Camera follows Indy's gaze to a map. Switches to first person. Zooms in on the Azores. (Possible location of Atlantis) Indy replies, "Maybe I will." end scene. Scene opens with the familiar travel sequence. Scene ends. Scene opens with Indy haggling with a local attempting to charter a boat. In the distance there's a commotion. As it gets closer it attracts Indy's attention. Somebody is being chased. *Not sure how this sequence should play out, but it culminates with a silhouette that reveals Short Round. Some background: In his quest for fortune and glory, Shorty followed in the footsteps of his mentor and surrogate father and became a treasure hunting adventurer. But instead of joining the ranks of academia and practicing archaeology legitimately, the former orphaned street kid and pick pocket applied his skills to the black market of illicit antiquities. This resulted in a falling out between Indy and Shorty. unbeknownst to each other, Indy and Shorty have both been obsessed with finding Atlantis. Each has information important to the other. Shorty needs Indy's wisdom. Indy requires Shorty's youth. The main villain is connected to the antiquities black markets. He's after Shorty because he stole some relic or clue that could lead to the discovery of Atlantis. Indy gets roped in. The two defeat the enemy, find the city, reconcile their relationship. Indy gets his final adventure, can ride off into the sunset satisfied. Shorty becomes his successor. The series ends. The fans love it. Movie makes a zillion dollars. Took me 20 minutes to come up with an infinitely more creative film compared to that uninspired and unimaginative pile of garbage conjured up by a committee of souless automatons.

I'll instantly and easily fix the "Indiana and the Dial of Destiny" script for you. Simply replace Helena Shaw with Marian Ravenwood. All you need do is, give Marian Ravenwood...Helena Shaw's story arc...and 95% of her dialogue. What would Marian Ravenwood's motivation be for recruiting Indy? She and Indy are now divorced, due to a shared tragedy that they have suffered. Her and Indy's son Mutt is assumed to have been killed in Vietnam, thus she needs the Dial of Destiny in order to alter the timeline and save Mutt's life and her marriage to Indy. Unfortunately, she was working with Dr. Jürgen Voller to retrieve the Dial - until he betrayed her and revealed himself to be a Nazi...with a goal of replacing Hitler. Marian escapes him, and searches out Indiana Jones. Marian then recruits Indy to help her find the Dial of Destiny. Why would this be the appropriate story? Marian was proven to be Indy's equal in "Raiders of the Lost Ark". The Dial should have been related to the research of her father (Abner Ravenwood). Historically, she had a similar skill set as Indy. If Marian replaced Helena Shaw in the plot act, it would have completed her (Marian's) character arc with Indy - as we see them work out their relationship issues...and find each other again. I suspect that the script originally featured Marian Ravenwood, but Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Kathleen Kennedy replaced Marian with the character of Helena Shaw. Why? Kathleen Kennedy, has penis envy...and hates men. She could not allow Marian and Indy, or Han and Leia to have happy married lives together...and children that are happy and healthy...who live.

I recently re-read Dune, Dune Messiah, and Children of Dune. I was surprised at how short Dune Messiah actually is. It is a small enough story to tell in a single movie and can act as a cap on a Paul-centered "trilogy" while also setting up Children of Dune if they want to take it that far; and adapting the next trilogy that book sets up would be pretty crazy given the wild story they tell. Frank Herbert wrote parts of Dune Messiah and Children of Dune before the first Dune was finished and he saw them as a single story. DM and COD contained the main philosophical/political point that Herbert really wanted to get to, and the first Dune book was basically a "prequel" to set up his larger point. It's easy to spot critics who don't know anything beyond the first book (if even that) by what they assume the series is about.

The complaints about where Dune part 1 ended are some of the weirdest and most arbitrary I have ever seen. Also, if you are someone who complains about not knowing Dune was going to be split into 2 movies, slap yourself because the title of the opening of the movie literally says "part 1".

One of the great things about growing up in the 70’s & 80’s was being able to watch some Classic 30’s, 40’s Saturday morning Serials, they even showed some (Flash Gordon) before a movie at cinemas, “We” had more of an understanding of them & the times Perfect era for the Indiana Jones movies

One thing I have to say that's probably just OCD screaming in my ears, all the real Indiana Jones films used actual myths and legends for their artefacts. Even the one that everyone hates was based around real artefacts. Yeah there is a whole bunch of crystal skulls out there in the world and they are really weird, and aliens are involved in theories about them. But this Kennedy movie, what the hell is a dilator of density?
@doublep1980
@doublep1980 Жыл бұрын
Tbf, the stupid ''Dial of Destiny'' is inspired by an ancient Greek artifact, the ''Mechanism of Antikythera''. They found this thing on a shipwreck in 1902 and still to this day, they don't really know what it's function was. The most plausible theory is: it's some sort of ancient ''analog computer'' build to predict astronomical positions and it was used by sailors as a navigation tool. In the movie, they turned it into a time machine, invented by famous inventor/philosopher/engineer/mathematician/astronomer Archimedes of Syracuse or some BS. Archimedes, did in fact, invented some cool stuff that was way ahead of it's time, like a type of hydraulic screw pump and a metallic grappling hook, used to attack enemy ships in naval battles.
