I ran the Monumental as well, it was my first full. Our experiences sound very similar. I fueled every 30 mins on the dot (I used Honey Stringers) and miles 21/22 is when it started to get real for me too. You were an hour faster than me though haha.

Dope recap! Very informative on the race and I would highly suggest anyone to run the Monumental as well. It's crazy how similar of a start that we had to our races lol, btw it was also dope to see that you trained using the Hanson Marathon Method as well. I pretty much stuck to plan using that system and I'm glad that I did, I felt well prepared for this race even though I didn't run any 20 milers during training. Did you apply for Chicago 2024?

1:53 should have actively chosen to rent a yurt for the marathon. You could have just set up right in the middle of some park 😀. Actually, better idea you need to invest in a yurt so instead of bringing like a camper trailer you bring your own yurt 😀.

You know you're comment about third party booking but me once as well. I book a hotel for a race, and I found a really good price on a third party website. well something comes up and I can't go or don't want to go to the race. So I called her 800 number to cancel the room and I just sit on hold for an hour, nobody ever picks up. I end up disputing the charge on my credit card to get my money back 🙂. I always book directly now through the hotel website. And I never use the race Hotel because in my experience they're always a lot more expensive than getting a another hotel or motel nearby.
@FreshBrewRunClub11 ай бұрын
Yep, I have heard some horror stories about 3rd parties as well. The price through the marathon was actually cheaper than the hotel's own website, but I guess you get what you pay for

Just ran Bayshore marathon didn't go well as I planned. Now, I am thinking to do fall marathon, which one is better Indy or our home turf Detroit for faster and weather condition?
@FreshBrewRunClub4 ай бұрын
Sorry to hear that! I would say Indy is better for pure speed, but Detroit is more interesting. Indy is almost completely flat, with minimal twists and turns as far as a city course goes. Detroit has bigger hills, most notably the bridge to Canada and tunnel back to the US. Nothing too wild, but if you start out too fast, the bridge will ruin your day (happened to me in 2017). But it’s a cool route in downtown Detroit and Windsor. I plan on running it again in the next couple years. Hope this is helpful!

Can you give a recommendation of best marathons to run in the USA? I just did twin cities it was so pretty 😢 thinking about doing this one next year.
@FreshBrewRunClub10 күн бұрын
Depends on what you’re looking for, but the best “big” marathons in the US are NYC and Chicago. They have a lottery system and are generally hard to get into. I’d also recommend Indianapolis, Houston, CIM, and Detroit. Easier to get into, and well-run events.
@LayneBracy111 ай бұрын
Great breakdown. What do you think were the biggest things that got you from 3:49 to 3:27? More mileage? (I just ran a 3:56 and would love to get to 3:30.) Thanks!
@FreshBrewRunClub11 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! For me, the biggest thing was consistency. I struggled with injuries, sickness, and bad weather in all my previous marathon attempts. This time, I completed almost all the workouts and it paid off. There's no cutting corners while marathon training. I did the Hanson's plan, and took the warmups and cooldowns seriously (added 2-3 miles to each of my difficult runs), so I ended up doing a lot more mileage and a lot more hard workouts (speed, strength and tempo runs). It wasn't easy at certain points, but I felt stronger than ever.
