Because government is not bringing hard reforms, going back on good initiatives like lateral entry, farm laws, labour code etc. Congress will keep doing degraded caste politics. If you have observed the actions taken by the NDA government since 2014, you will note that this government has been taking steps by steps to achieve the objective. India's economy was in a precarious position when NDA government took over the government in 2014. Various cleaning up measures, including opening of zero balance bank accounts, demonetization, GST, JAM, together with various other initiatives have made our economy stronger. Simultaneously various large scale infrastructure projects have been completed, in the process of complete or are on the anvil. In 1991 we were only about 400 Billion USD economy and now we are a 4 trillion USD economy. I believe if we have continuity of the economy policy, do not follow that anti national Pappu or Farjiwal's economic policy we can certainly achieve to become a middle income economy by 2040. Yesterday only the government announced industrial clusters. If you have not noticed the government is following intensive industrial training through top 500 companies and these trained young people will certainly find placements in the proposed industrial units. These projects are being closely monitored by the government and the projects were conceived and are being monitored by various professional agencies in addition to the government. In short, the government is certainly doing its best to make India a developed country despite the fact we have about 20% people who support people like Raoul Vinci and his mother.

Labor laws have been relaxed in designated industrial corridors, and Modi has indeed taken a total view of manufacturing sector and bypassing any and all laws as and when required. So in short or medium tern india can indeed do well. Yes a complete labor reforms and tax reforms factory law reforms are needed and india also needs fundamental reforms in education in schools too. Instead of thinking of becoming a developed nation, India should aim to become a $10 trillion economy first (may be by 2033) and work towards that. India won't be a developed nation, but definitely to the path to developed nation, when we look at purchasing power parity, and in sense to standard of life in comparison with developed nation then, though it may attain certain minimal specifications like per capita income based on gdp.For eg: consider Singapore, the per capita income more than $55000, even then, there are hardship faced by Singaporeans in daily life, to make their life on a day to day. If US is taken, there are a lot on the streets and struggling to find means for the day. Even if one may see outwardly see developed but it is not.

There is no harm in lying because she will not have this job eight years from now, let alone in 2047, but she was calibrated in what she said. In theory, India can be a developed country in 10 years if it carries out reforms, but in practice, the Indian system is not designed to be brave and independent. Indian system is autocratic, intrusive, and corrupt. People do not want independent institutions because it takes power away from them. Concentration of power is required for corruption, and the British taught this well to India.

It's UNTHINKABLE for India, or really any country of its population size and poor infrastructure to improve that much in 20 years. Can India build an adequate electric grid in 20 years? Adequate city drinking water system? How about sufficient bathrooms for the population? Doubtful on all three accounts. BUT, Indians are taking over as CEOs and Heads of Nations, so maybe all the Indian people can come to the US and Canada and the UK and in that way India would have succeeded!

I would appreciate If Gita Gopinath talking about Indian economy its projectives short term long term based on current trends is wonderful . As an IMD MD what is her reading of the cash locks in individuals with no charging on the flow of cash into the system with multiple stagnanacy due to corruption and looting atleast i see minimum 100 people in this country locking 5 lac/10 lac crores of untilised cash stock in godowns with no circulation. Wont she feel an iIMD intereference and an audit based on IMD injectiong of funds into the system which in otherwords would probably lead to the economy to grow at atleast minimum double digit with ease and comfort. What is her support role as an IMD MD in exercising her restriction to bringdown the cash circulation situation inside and outsoide the country. parking of funds abroad by many indisviduals all needs attensiion as an audit from IMD MD. Did Modi who run the largest democracy in the world manage to alleviate millions of Indians out of poverty? I predict in next 30 years, India will still be an impoverished country and will find it difficult to achieve developed status least to be a superpower. Cut down on defence budget and help the ordinary Indians who are struggling to make ends meet. Resolve your huge internal domestic problems first - rampant corruption, racial religious violent, primitive caste system, infrastructure deficiency, income disparity, abject poverty, etc.
