See that is the paradox of Indian society. You will be surprised to know that many Indian Muslims and minorities have also voted for the BJP. Javed Sahab is absoultely right about the feudal landlords and vaderas in Pakistan, I do not hold enough knowledge to confirm the statistics but they look pretty accurate to me. As a Pakistani, i do agree with him on this point. I am all in with abolishing this vadera system but sadly i dont see any end to it in the near future, since these very vaderas, through the system of democracy, gather votes from the poor helpless people working on their lands, come to power and form the country's ruling government.

Fact is that even after 60 years of independence, India (not necessarily all Indians) has ensured that the people who matter (be it in Science, Politics or Government) have made it count irrespective of caste, social standing or religious affiliation. Sure, while it has not been perfect, the fact is that no other country (despite what the western nations might have you believe), has gotten anywhere close to this level of acceptance when it comes to minorities (take the latest case in Ferguson, MO). Ultimately, it is people like you, Rafi sahab (who I consider close to god for his contribution to our music which 40 year olds like us can enjoy, and who you have idolized), President Abdul Kalam, and now, I hope Prime Minister Modi, who will move India beyond the Hindu- Muslim-Christian agenda and show the world what we are capable of..... Javed Akhtar is spilling facts...one after the other! Excellent point on the feudal/zamindaari system in PK and why democracy has always been so fragile there. And also he made quite an interesting differentiation between religiousness and communalism using the example of the the athiest Savarkar and secular Jinnah. And Jinnah, a Shia studying in convent school in India and then in UK and being a liberal himself and marrying a Parsi - was so atypical of forming a theocracy! In an interview with Vajpayee, Javed sahab learnt about how India would be secular despite what those RSS type folks do. And I would argue that even RSS just does not want anti-nationals within the country. For them even Muslims of India just need to recognize their origins. Anyway great interview.

I think Pakistan should concentrate on what's going on in their own country, instead of focusing on plight of Muslims in India. They have a bigger religious problem called Islamist Fundamentalism in their own country. There is more in-fighting going on between Shias and Sunnis in Pakistan than Muslims and Hindus in India. Please focus on your country. First clean up your mess then concentrate on others.

I totally agree with Javed sahab, just would like to add that at 04:27, not just 2 rather 3 organisations boycotted Quit India movement, 3rd one being Communist Party. However, reasons for boycott were in stark difference with that of Muslim League & Hindu Mahasabha.
