Yeah but if you get an introverted girl saying it it still doesn't sound harsh or rude. People think German is harsh because their first contact with it is literally with Hitler speeches in history classes. But, a) Hitler was Austrian, and Austria does have stronger consonants like a trilled R and endings in /k/, and b) if you listen to the famous audio of Hitler and the Finnish prime minister on a train, you can see that in real life, not even Hitler himself sounds as harsh as he does in his speeches. So it's not just about speaker, but also about context. Fascists are gonna sound harsher in every language.

@thevannmann10 ай бұрын
Not really. German, like any language, is subject to individual opinions. Saying that exposure to the language would necessarily change opinions about it is unrealistic as the language does have a lot of sounds which are deemed quite harsh and overall the language doesn't have the same "appeal" as some others.
@andrearace116810 ай бұрын
@@thevannmann I'll grant you that people might not like it even when it's spoken in a neutral way, but I think you as well as many others have most likely been influenced to think that way about it. I don't know how much German you know, but they don't even really pronounce their "R"'s, and they have many "ah"s instead of hard "A"s. I think English is just as "harsh" of a language, if not harsher by those metrics, but of course you are allowed to have your own opinion.
@caroskaffee305210 ай бұрын
@@thevannmann This makes absolutely zero sense. Of course does exposure to a language change your perception of it. Most people have only heard German being spoken at its absolute worst in American WW2 movies, most people would not recognize it being spoken in a normal way since they expect it to sound like a soldier screaming to kill people. German does not have any more harsh sounds than other languages, the R is not even rolled, the consonants do not sound harsher than let's say Italian. It's mostly about what you expect a language to sound like. If you already have a stereotype in your head, you will apply it to the smallest things. Before the war, German actually had pretty much the opposite reputation of what it has today. The most famous operas, fairytales and classical music pieces are written in german or by germans. it is the language of "poets and thinkers" and is still a very important language in science since so many famous contributors to physics, chemistry etc were germans. These things unfortunately often get overshadowed by the impact of WW2, but it's important that we all work on breaking down stereotypes and asking ourselves where they really come from and if they have any scientific foundation
@caroskaffee305210 ай бұрын
@@andrearace1168 I completely agree. It has mostly to do with what you expect a language to sound like and what you picture while listening to it. The stereotypes about Germany mostly still go back to WW2 propaganda. The not laughing one comes from the British and the thing with the language is actually a quite interesting one. On the one hand it definitely plays a role that most people get first introduced to it by English actors shouting it badly and aggressively in a platera of trash WW2 movies, however there is one aspect to it that may make it indeed sound more aggressive due to how that aspect is used in other languages. We always speak with full "hard attack", which means that before every single syllable we completely close our vocal chords before starting the pronunciation which also leads to the "staccato" in our speech. Other languages like English predominantly use that when they are scolding someone or giving them a stern talking to over accentuate their words. So a speaking style that in many other languages is reserved to express anger is actually used as the standard pronunciation in German which I guess contributes to people hearing it as aggressive as that style of speaking is linked to aggression within their own language

I keep hearing this "French are arrogant and rude" thing from people again, again and again, but I've never encountered a French person that was arrogant or rude, even in French-only speaking topics on the Internet for me as a non French-speaking native, so I don't wtf this is about. The ones always saying this are mostly either Brits or Americans and ironically I have found way more arrogant, rude and downright nationalistic people from those than have I ever found any French fitting that stereotype
@vaudou7410 ай бұрын
we hate everyone equally :), like said in the video, we are going straight to the point whereas it s appreciated or not ( rude part) and often with a critical ( positive or netagive) thinking ( carthesian mind) = arrogant part. the french etiquette is also massive ( less in younger generation) so when u r in the country, u can think people are rude cause u skipped even the basic behaviour etiquette, ending in the rude part of: straightfoward :)

Idk. Interesting topic for sure. I had really positive encounters when learning French and negative ones as well. At the end of the day people are people, no matter where they're from. If anyhow it would be ignorance towards outsiders when a person comes off as more rude and arrogant, so an individual / influenced character trait.

People are probably talking more about the French from Paris especifically than the general French from other cities.
@thevannmann10 ай бұрын
It's obviously going to be biased since not everyone will experience it to the same degree but when people from so many countries have this stereotype and when so many people have negative personal experiences, it goes without saying that it's likely somewhat true. Furthermore, most people who visit France, visit Paris, and it's well documented that Parisians tend to be more arrogant than the rest while rural folk tend to be nicer. Therefore, when people associate arrogance with the French, it's likely to be due to negative experiences in Paris rather than all of France. The same type of arrogance is often associated with certain big cities of many other countries like Sydney (Australia), Beijing (China), NYC (USA) and Hanoi (Vietnam).

It’s so unfortunate that a lot of people immediately associate the German language with Hitler. That man was full of rage and evil, and spoke in such a way in public on purpose. For English speakers, it would be like if everyone was introduced to our language only by recordings of someone like Bobcat Goldthwaite. Any language can be made to sound really aggressive or terrible by a certain speaker of it. I think German actually sounds nice when spoken by most German speakers.

Before this video, I thought that curry only means a seasoning so I was like "That's not very nutritious, is it, to just eat spicies" when saw that claim about 🇮🇳 India. 🤓 As for 🇨🇵 France (and 🇮🇹 Italy), 🇫🇮 me and my dad had this kind of stereotype of them that they tend not to make functioning reliable electronics, so I was worried when the warranty repair of a certain 🇯🇵 Japanese brand's device required sending it to 🇫🇷 France (I even asked if 🇩🇪 Germany was an option). Unfortunately, that didn't pan out well and it was my worst experience regarding something I had purchased: it returned further broken when they sent it back. After the second "repair" it was still in the same state I sent it back to them, and the courier (a subcontractor for an 🇺🇸 American company) had left the package on the snowy ground during a snowfall/sleet. And with the third attempt they said "we don't have this special swatch (white) in store, so you have to accept a black one", which wasn't new but a secondhand one with a lot of dust and corrosion. Only at that point, over a year after initiating the repair process, its 🇫🇮 Finnish retailer eventually got involved and found me an unused one (still black) at their warehouse after I contacted the consumer authorities. They had refused to do so from the beginning, passing the responsibility over to its maker. As a result, I want to make sure that in the future the retailers take care of the issues from the get-go and not the manufacturers. If anything, it tells more about the culture within the company (including retailers and logistics) than that of any country.

Hindustani was the native language spoken in northern India which was pure form of hindi with sanskriti words, and with no influence of arabic . The muslim conquests in indian subcontinent took place between 13th to 18th century . Since it became a bir difficult for hindustanis and persians to communicate properly,Hindustani began to acquire some Persian/Arabic loanwords and continued to be called "Hindi" (Mostly spoken by hindus) And also an other language formed "urdu" (mostly spoken by muslims) Both urdu and hindi share significant portion of their vocabulary. Both are same language with some small difference words but still both speaker's can understand each other perfectly But its hard or not possible to read urdu for hindi speakers (untlill you learn to read it , it's a completely different world). Since Script of Hindi is Devanagari which is influenced from Sanskrit. The script of urdu is Nastaliq (persian) which is influenced by Persian/Arabic/Turkish. So now its clear in india even sometimes when we speak formally (very formally)we write and read and speak bit more pure hindi which still has arabic words , But when we are talking informally or even when a bit politely we speak a complete mixture of them. Then a guy in an anime costume approached him and Ben handed out Indonesian Rupiyah. So I learnt it was Jakarta. Jakarta is an alpha city like Mumbai. Delhi, Bangkok and Bangalore are alpha minus cities. Even Bangalore has bad areas like Tannery Road, Neelasandra and Ejipura. Then there was an American woman who told Ben that she is grateful she lives in USA and not a third world country like Indonesia. Even USA has bad areas and you can see the vlogs of Nick Johnson, Peter Santanello and Charlie Bo 313. Some vloggers love to show negativity in order to create shock for views.
