Bhai. You cannot compare bhagat singh and savarkar mercy petitions. Savarkar was given a life time prison vs bhagat singh was given death sentence. There is so huge difference between the two. Death sentence mark the end of life, so the thoughts that comes to one against death sentence vs one who was kept in solitary confinement for life. Savarkar was at best be described as a cultural nationalist. He wanted the nation to assimilate. Just because he wrote an apology, who knows it could well be tactical under duress, he can not be labelled as coward. By the same breath, many have worked for British and never went to jail, notably Ambedkar, Jinnah etc... In fact Jinnah always supported Churchill during WW2 hoping a befitting reward. Whether Savarkar deserves Bharat Ratna or not that is a different matter, he sure would have opted more like a Chinese nationalism or Russian nationalism rather than temple run.
