Looks like Fareed has no idea about how Panamá Canal works. I went to Panama for vacation for new years. One of the main attractions was obviously the canal. They open and close these huge gates to create watertight compartments to lift up/down these massive ships. We went in a tiny tourist boat. Obviously they don’t open the gates for tiny boats. So you have to a wait for a massive container “buddy” ship so you can piggy back off of them. The tour guide told us that that the charges to open/close the gates was anywhere between $150k to $500k depending on the size. Our “buddy” ship paid $200k. Now imagine there are 30-50 large container ships everyday! Now do the math! It will be in billions. With smug grin Fareed is the one being foolish here!

The US democracy is totally defective as it is widely influenced by the Lobby System, NGOs, armament lobby, corporate honchos, Media Moguls & motivated think tanks which only give US Congresspersons exalted & arrogant importance about themselves rather than the true picture. No wonder, following collapse of USSR in 1991, the US failed miserably to successfully lead the world as the sole surviving superpower even for one decade. Its interventions faced spectacular failures in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, South China Sea & Ukraine won't be different while economically it slipped under the clutches of Communist China. President Trump wanted to drain the "Swamp" but was himself drained by the "Swamp" in the 2020 presidential election. This swamp is too powerful within USA but can only bring miseries to the world as seen in the Middle East & will now bring miseries in Europe via Ukraine war. Russia must lead the way to bring alternate world order incorporating countries which did not attend Swiss "Summit on Peace in Ukraine" & those which refused to sign the Summit Declaration. Elon Musk must look at US Election which had no credibility. Declaration by US election authorities in 2020 that voting irregularity were of no consequence as to alter election results added fuel to the fire & attack on the Capitol was the logical outcome. That 197 Republican Congressmen, an overwhelming majority voted against the Impeachment motion against Trump & 147 Republican members of the House voted against certifying the election result even after attack on the Capitol shows genuine feeling about the credibility of the elections which "SWAMP" seem to have altered. The US has to streamline its electoral process, take help of the Election Commission of India, institute Indian EVMs to restore credibility of its democracy. Elimination of Swamp can only prevent US failures in the world.
