Fun Fact: “Huzzah” and “Oh Yeah” are both technically inaccurate. The original line translates to “Dorya” which has no real english counterpart (shout out to all the Gannon mains out there.) When Aeon Genesis did the original translation in 2004, they more than likely chose something that embodied the original spirt, while when Nicalis translated it, it was probably a decision made by the two translators and Pixel to change it (A few name changes line up with dev logs, implying that Pixel was involved in the translation.)
@markb52493 жыл бұрын

The Cave Story fact at the beginning is only half true. Maybe you didn't have the time to get into it, but the original translation a lot of people played was actually a fan translation. The game was free when it first came out on PC and there was no official translation. So calling it a deliberate "change" from the original translation is wrong. That was, technically, the first time it had (officially) been translated and the translators were working directly from the Japanese. And that was how they translated that line. In fact, a lot of people were a little upset at the time that his catchphrase was different, feeling "huzzah!" was closer to the Japanese and that the pop culture reference was unneeded.
@JayyMission3 жыл бұрын
Yup! To expand on this, there is evidence that early builds of the WiiWare port, which created the new "official" translation, used the fan translation or something closer to it at one time. ESRB ratings reference a line that is not in the final WiiWare version but which was in the fan translation. Also, the fan translation is way better lol

Cave Story didn't just have a few phrases changed. It's a whole different translation. Generally speaking, the new translation is much much worse than the original. I've heard that it more closely matches the literal meaning of the Japanese version, but it is clearly not as well written and is far less charming.
@TheAmazingSpiderPunk3 жыл бұрын
It is a hallmark example of how important good localization actually is an how literal translation (which even then the new translation wasn't, what with the pop culture reference thrown in as an example) is not often ideal. The fan translation was more in the spirit of the original while the official you can tell was just contracted out to a translation team that doesn't really care about the property.

Thanks for using my *Shenmue* trivia submission. Would be great to watch a full video of Shenmue, with someone who is a fan of the game voicing the video, as well.

I usually go for 100% in games, but the *Cave of Trials* in *Steamworld Dig 2* had me go "fuck that". You need to complete all 5-6 challenges in a row in a random order, and I couldn't manage to reach the end of some of them, never mind doing all 5-6 in a single life.

If there's a second fact video, I'm hoping to see facts about Yume Nikki and OMORI.

This video kinda convinced me that SteamWorld needs/deserves Smash representation. Not a character, of course, but a Rusty special Mii Brawler costume would be very nice indeed

I really enjoy SteamWorld games, but this is the first time I'd even heard of SteamWorld: Tower Defense. Hmm. I'll have to see if it's possible to buy it still.
