Love my farming sim games, but it was refreshing to see probably the first indie showcase in years without any farming sims in it

I will never understand why they seem to target very small children with their marketing in these things, like, as if anybody under the age of 15 is ever going to watch an Indie World presentation

I think most kids don't enjoy being "handled." Why would adults? I've always found the narrations to directs, the dead way they serve laffy-taffy style jokes, to be frustrating and grading. Shame they can't give kiddos the respect of not talking to them like they're just a bit stupider than the rest of us.

Somehow one of the best Indie Worlds ever for me. Almost all games fit my vibe, definitely going to play both Little Kitty and Cat Quest III. Great to hear it will also have co-op. Arlo, If you are reading this, go play Cat Quest II with your nephew in co-op, amazing time!

The animations looked really bad. Metroid Dread set the bar so high that it's hard not to compare it.

"Stray but cute" was my immediate thought when I saw Little Kitty, Big City, for sure. The "new WayForward" thing is actually them using an old, like REALLY old, Atari IP known as "Yars' Revenge" for the Atari 2600, although there WAS a reimagining of that came called "Yar's Revenge" back in 2011. Leave it to WayForward to take any IP and put cute anime girls in them. :P ANTONBLAST's release date announcement was my favorite part of the showcase for me, SUPER hyped for that game (it's going to release on PC at the same time as Nintendo Switch, the Switch exclusivity only applies for consoles, which is surprising since it's original Kickstarter only managed to promise a PC and Switch release). By the way, can I just say, I love this emerging subgenre of Wairo-Like platformers? Pizza Tower wasn't the first game that took inspiration from Wario Land, and it and ANTONBLAST were basically in development round the same time, but I can only hope that these two games will inspire more games like them! (speaking of Pizza Tower, I had a quick take when I heard "Pizza's here" at the end of TMNT Splintered Fate, like I knew Pizza Tower wouldn't be in this showcase, but for a split second, I almost thought they'd do it) Cat Quest III had me hooked the moment it was about pirates. I'm interested in playing the other two games, though, which apparent have "Overwhelmingly Positive" reviews on Steam, so I guess these are really good games to play. BZZZT looks neat, SCHiM has a cool shadow-jumping mechanic, and I swear, those brief clips don't do Duck Detective justice, you have to either watch the full trailer or play the demo to realize that game is pure gold! I've played the first Steamworld Heist, fun game, really looking forward to the sequel, especially since it's pirate-themed! I... kind of like pirates, in case you haven't noticed. Overall, a decent showcase, I'd give it a solid "B".

I think part of why Yars looks so stiff is that the rest of the game looks a *lot* like Metroid Dread, which had Samus' movement the most fluid and smooth it's ever been. So the main character looks like a Newgrounds character pasted awkwardly into the background from a different game.

Yars is a sequel to an Atari shooter. I wonder if WayForward have trouble with 3D-engine 2D games? Then again Contra was sprites and people said it's awful.

There were so many more announcements on the Japanese version. Kinda upsetting, but was a pretty solid showcase! I like Stitch. Looks pretty chill and relaxing ^^

Europa is looking like one of the best "wandering" games of all time, and it was easily the star of the show for me, though I've been looking forward to Schim for such a long time! ...I'll probably get that TMNT game...

My biggest interests are YARS and Splintered Fate. Wayforward has a pretty good track record, so I feel like it'll be pretty good by release. and TMNT x Hades sounds dope to me. XD The cat game could be fun too.

Why are people always surprised the Switch can run games like Europa? I mean, it runs Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom perfectly well. It also runs Legends Arceus decently well. Is it because the aformentioned games are Nintendo games? Are indipendent studios not familiar enough with the Switch to design games in such a way? Or is it because Nintendo Teams have bigger budget, hence they can spend resources to make sure games run well?

YARS Rising or whatever has potential, but you’re right, it needs something. I think the girls animation is the main problem. Very stiff. Movement also needs help. Like give it some weight or if you wanna keep it fast… idk, just keep working ha

i wanted to like sticky business so bad (we all need some cozier games every once in a while) but it's just....kinda boring after a little bit. the game just feels like a small part of a bigger game? but it's not because that's all there will ever be.... idk it's hard to explain. kinda like a minigame inside a bigger game i guess? i think it just needed to be expanded upon a bit more maybe but oh well

It’s not even a picross game, though it’s formulated kinda like one. I love the type of puzzle solving that game is tho and with art designs that sounds freakin perfect. Picross in the way that it doesn’t give information of filled in and spaces, but rather just gives numbers of everything and you just figure out how the pieces fill in

Honestly I loved that direct! Lots of variety in the games but also might be biased because of AntonBlast 😅 Wish I could catch it live, they barely was any announcement for it on my end..

Cat's Quest 3 was the clear winner for me, personally. I played the 1st game in the series, and didn't really think there was much variety. CQ2 looked better, but kind of more-of-the-same. This, however, looks like a HUGE upgrade. Schim looks good, too!

The girl in Yars Rising looks like she's walking at a pace (gameplay-wise) but moving slow motion (animation-wise). And the movement fluidity when switching between standing to moving to crouching, etc, seems very sudden and not organic. Not to mention the maps are very square-ish/boring

I honestly thought this was a pretty poor Indie World...mostly because a lot of the games in it already had Switch versions confirmed, like Antonblast and Europa, and the new announcements really didn't hook me that much. Even SteamWorld Heist II was pretty obviously happening if you were following Thunderful news (their press releases mentioned an upcoming SteamWorld game planned for the second half of 2024 that would be a tactical shooter) - I had a hunch it'd close the presentation. And no, I wasn't expecting Silksong or much of anything in particular otherwise, though I did have a list of games I'd liked to have seen. The Japanese presentation and the highlight reel had some games that really felt like they deserved more of a spotlight put on them, too. At least we didn't end on the highlight reel this time, but this was a weak showing - but again, it would've been better if it wasn't mostly games we already knew about to some extent or relatively uninteresting or rough looking games, and if the pacing wasn't so slow.

when first seeing that Little Kitty, Big City trailer, seeing the hat come from that capsule thinking for a sec “wait did that come from a Pokeball?” I want Another Crab’s Treasure, it looks really neat, glad it’s coming so soon! Yars while not that similar kinda reminds me of the Dashing Thief variant in Showtime, but with differences but kinda not as fluid movement not saying it is that similar but it came to mind. I love the vibe of the cat quest!
