This is the first song i sang after some vocal lessons. I sang this song in front of more then 300 people in a very special club in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) . I was very nervous but when the first lyrics came the crowd went wild with cheers and screams... i will remember this day for the rest of my life! My girlfriend at the time was taking pictures and smiling at me. My cover was the Faith no more version.

FNM may have dropped the second verse (I have never found a particular reason why that was) but it's a song that keeps the soul of the original while FNM still managed to put their signature stamp on it without ruining the song. I dug into some research and came to that conclusion - it's very much interpreted as the Commodores being taken advantage of by the record label because of their race, even though I think Lionel Richie debunked the racial aspect but even so, it can absolutely be attributed to racial struggles. It wouldn't have fit Mike Patton to have sang it.
