Seeing the EPIC Monarch butterfly colonies in Mexico

This is one of the most epic things you can do in Mexico! Let me share my visit to the Monarch colonies near the town of Angangueo in central Mexico.
The migrating Monarchs are a vulnerable species. If you live in North America you can help by planting native types of milkweed in your garden (because the butterflies really need it!). You can read more about this here:

So magical ! Thank you for the recap. I'm hesitatnt between Michoacan (4h from MEX) vs Piedra Herrada (+- 1H from MEX). I'm a woman traveling solo and want to make sure I'm safe. Do you know if Piedra Herrada as magical and impressive ?
