Thank You very much for this video! While I initially came across your channel because of the "Farpoint Trek 55" I am now probably going to purchase either the "Farpoint 40" or the "Farpoint 55", because of their carry-on capability. In regards to the daypack of the "Farpoint 55" I have a question though. Do you think that a 14" laptop would comfortably fit into it, maybe even with a protective sleeve? I am wondering if I could fit my Thinkpad L450 into there (34 x 24 x 3 cm) and make the daypack my front-carry tech-pouch with all of my valuables and electronics while in transit. If that is not possible I might just get the Farpoint 40 and try to acquire these custom Osprey buckles with some webbing to attach my regular daypack to the front.

Hold on. Everything you said here is real accurate, but there is one thing you didn’t explain right, you can use Apple Pay or any other tap to pay features because the subways and Mexico cities businesses to accept those type of transactions now if you do go to a mom and pop business for tacos or flea markets then yeah do have some money there
@indietraveller
@indietraveller 8 күн бұрын
Yep fair enough, in a lot of businesses you can. :) Just not mom n pop stores, taco stands, taxi drivers, etc. With my travel style a lot of my interactions are with these. Maybe I didn't explain it the best way

@@indietraveller super dat je ook Nederlands bent!! I am doing preparations for a first trip to Colombia. I traveled a lot but never to latin America. I am suprised that in your video's you are taking easily buses, taxis, you jump on a motorcycle-taxi, are you never afraid??? I read everywhere: take a Uber then you are sure. It looks so easily.. My question: can I trust on buplic transport and privat motor cycles in the country side? Another thing: I had to smile about your stories about getting older and being on travel. Not going out anymore etc. I became 67 years now and I try to feel the same like you. Take adventures, discover new countries, have a cocktail en enjoy life!!!

Sorry for my delayed reply! I definitely do take care with this in Colombia. I have a strong preference for Ubers over taxis, but I consider the public buses safe overall. Regarding the moto-taxis, in one case this was in a trusted situation near a small peaceful village. In the case of taking one at night, this was a pick-up by a person recommended by my accommodation who collects you from outside the local police station. I suggest taking guidance from the accommodations who will often personally know many of the people involved in the local transport and what is or isn't safe. I wouldn't worry too much about public buses that go between bus stations that are generally very well-secured. Glad you can relate to my video even though I must still appear young to your eyes 😁 Age is just a number and cheers to more adventures!

Sorry, only just saw this. Back when I was on a tight budget I pruned my subscriptions at home, sold stuff I didn't need, and kept money in a seperate account (or rather a jar in my bank app) to save up. When travelling long term I subletted my place or moved out. If you need inspiration I wrote a lot on this topic in this book that I wrote: www.indietraveller.co/ref/book/ It's like 20 bucks but it helps you get a travel budget together and make a ton of savings :)

It's very difficult around archeological sites... permits are required which are hard to get for a casual tourist. I actually used stock footage for Teotihuacan. At another ruin I managed by staying just outside the perimiter.

For all the affordability AND availability of housing within metro Medellin. The health care being wonderful and quite affordable. Daily expenditures for food, utilities, etc., quite reasonable. The AIR QUALITY of Medellin is awful! For the greater part, filtered/central ventilation offered in Medellin is nonexistent...open the window (no screens) the airflow is great...including the carbon precipitates from bus, auto and motorcycle traffic. Terrible AIR QUALITY! Mop you floors...scrub them if you like. Don a pair of white socks and walk around...BLACK! Everyday, every night...every holiday...AIR QUAlITY is terrible in Medellin...cough, cough...hack, hack.

I visited six weeks ago but just now seeing this. Really enjoyed the video and feel you do a great job! I would add that the castle at the top of Chapultepec Park is now the Nstional History Museum. The Palacio de Bellas Artes is also stunning with numerous murals by all the Mexican masters. The glass curtain on the performance stage was commissioned by Louis Tiffany in 1912 (think that was the year). It's incredible. Thanks for some great tips for my next visit to CDMX.

I discovered your website back in 2017 when I did my first long travel to south east Asia. Ever since I used a lot of your tips and tricks in traveling light and places to visit. Last year I traveled a couple of weeks in Colombia around the same time you did and it was really nice to see some of the same destinations. The combination of footage about nature experiences and surrounding yourself in the real culture of a country / region is what keeps attracting me to your channel. So thank u for all the good stuff so far ✌

Some things. The main underground street in Guanajuato was a canal, but many of the tunnels you were in were explicitly built to handle traffic. Only the main street under the city was used for water distribution. Translating "Bufa" as if it were a Spanish word is weird, and I don't think is correct. The word likely doesn't come from Spanish. There is a different (and more famous) Cerro de la Bufa in Zacatecas, and it is similar in look to the one in Guanajuato. Wikipedia states that one of the possible origins is from a word in Aragonese. I have no idea of the origin of the name, but I'm quite sure we wouldn't name a hill "Snort". Finally, Guanajuato has very heavy traffic at least for a city of its size, and when you live there, it can be awful. Living there is a very different experience from just visiting since most of the touristic things to do are within walking distance or downtown, but that is not always the case with school and work. Just imagine having to walk up 150 stairs in the alleys with your groceries.

Well, don't expect "very good". Some people in tourist restaurants or at museum ticket booths will speak basic English. Menus may be in English in touristy areas. If not, there's Google Translate, or you can learn a few words of Spanish :)

I've only taken coach buses to reach places outside the capital. They're fantastic and pre-buying tickets for these is optional. I've not taken inner city buses - I prefer using ridehailing for this which is cheap and plentiful in CDMX. The metro is decent, though often very crowded and sometimes the signage is lacking, so I found it helpful to have a metro map on my phone. For longer distances in the city the metro is very useable, for shorter distances I found taxis/ridehailing very practical. Have fun :)
