@@NunyaBey that's because Arawak no longer exists as a tribe. Their population was decimated by Spanish diseases, and the few that were left intermarried with White Spaniards and Black Slaves. They were absorbed by bigger cultures and ethnicities. I noticed the majority of white Americans do have this tone in their voice of superiority and importance (very subtle in most) and I never could nail it until this woman described it for me and such masterly detail! With that being said all humans Need racial reconciliation and individual healing Journeys in order to be free from our undeniable unjust histories.

Sean, 1.) As a white American, I felt “superior” to other Europeans while I lived and traveled in Europe. That sense of superiority is not racial, it’s national. 2. ALL people on planet earth have been victims of conquests and colonialism. What you and I think of as someone from India is not actually indigenous to India...they replaced indigenous Druvidian people who were of African origin. The Japanese and Taiwanese also displaced indigenous populations. The Jews displaced Canaanites. Blacks displaced Egyptians during the Hyksos reign of Egypt. Turks displaced Greeks. Warring Native American tribes displaced other tribes. That’s just how history goes. All we can do is live by our newfound values. We can’t change the past and we can’t burden living people to rectify what dead people did

@@mshafer1021 Excuse me? Let’s not “All lives matter” this conversation. We know colonization and conquest has existed all over the world and for centuries but in this period of time it is European colonialism and supremacy that we as people of color are trying to deal with. Mentally and culturally we have been broken down and destroyed by the ideology of white supremacy and we are still trying to throw off the chains of that slavery today. Stop conflating issues of nationality and race. We do not all experience these things from the same place. The past absolutely affects the present but as long as people like you want to deny it to protect your own privilege and place at the top of the social hierarchy nothing will ever change. You don’t move on from things by forgetting. You learn by remembering.

@westernessence7644 4 жыл бұрын
@@tanitaindelicato5649 I was talking about the European values expressed in the Bill of Rights, expressed in the Constitution, in the Declaration of Independence, in our National anthem... And the truth is that one of the biggest issues people use to degrade and to cast hate upon White people and anger and racism against White people is the fact that Europeans came to America and defeated the Indians that were here (and established this great country). And there's no question that Europeans (500 years ago) came to the Americas and conquered much of the American continents. This wouldn't necessarily be looked about good from the Indian population. And anyone could go back and say well, 'this was wrong what happened'. Well, it's true from a modern perspective. Anyways, the Indians certainly had many advocates for fair treatment including Davy Crockett (one of my heroes). And I honor the Indians for fighting for themselves - every honorable people fights for their own heritage (including White people). But the idea of saying that White people are terrible because we came here and we created this great country and we conquered - tell me one Indian tribe that has not conquered others. Actually, the Indian warfare between each other was in many ways like a racial conflict because these Indian tribes actually often had different physical appearances, they had different dress, they had different languages and they saw them as completely alien people not of them - they conquered, they exterminated, they oppressed, they enslaved, they kidnapped. I mean, the Mound people in American were totally wiped out by the other Indians. And there were no reservations built for them, no concern at all. You cannot go and find any Mound people, any Mound reservations because they were wiped out primarily by the Cherokees and a few other Indian tribes - they were genocided. And if you look at every Indian tribe in the United States of America - every one of these tribes has had different migrations where they've conquered other tribes, taken over the land and created their society. So there's no unique crimes by European Americans that didn't exist of Indian tribes against each other (Indian peoples against each other). And the truth is that there have been many Americans, leading Americans from the earliest times of colonialism who respected Indian culture and who worked hard to make sure that Indian culture wasn't wiped out (that they had reservations) unlike the Mound people who were wiped out and genocided by other Indian tribes. So, the truth is that Europeans did much more to recognize and honor the people that they conquered (the Indian people they conquered) - they tried to establish reservations for them where they had their own sovereignty. And I understand that Europeans have committed ethnic domination and conquest before - but every other people has done the same. Chinese tribes have done it; the Chinese conquered the Mongols, the Mongols conquered the Chinese and repressed them, the Indian tribes attacked each other, we can go on and on. I've heard this theme that Europeans are so horrible because what we did in colonialism or what we did with the Indians. But the truth is that every race has conquered other races or other tribes, other peoples, and this is nothing more than just a vicious way of hate speech against European people. You see, if we're going to condemn European tribes for coming in and conquering and creating a society then you're going to have to condemn every Indian tribe that attacked each other and put each other into slavery and all sorts of other issues. Furthermore, there's a lot of evidence that the Europeans came to the Americas before the Asian Indians and yet we're given a guilt complex and a guilt trip all the time about what we did to the Indians. What did they do to our ultimate ancestors? I mean, the truth is White people lived in North America peacefully for more than 5,000 years - then the Asians came over the Bering Land bridge slaughtered us to extinction and called themselves "native". You see, the evidence is that we had thriving European communities in America upwards of 30,000 years ago during the period of the great ice age. And we know that the earliest evidence of Indian presents in the Americas was 13,500 years ago. That's the accepted date of the earliest Indian settlements in the United States of America. And the evidence is overwhelming. And these European tribes were completely (unfortunately, from a European standpoint) conquered by Indian tribes; they were wiped out or to a degree assimilated and their identity was completely destroyed in the Americas. So, the truth is that the first people that came to this country (America) and created culture, societies were in fact European people. And by saying this I'm not trying to denigrate Indians. I actually admire the spirit of the Indian peoples standing up for themselves and I honor them - and I also honor the European people for the same value system. And I celebrate when the Indians say 'we want to preserve our culture, we want to preserve our heritage (our genealogy), we want to preserve our ways - I clap my hands. The truth is that Indian populations today are flourishing and they have their own areas which they have literally control over. They don't even have to pay the same kind of taxes as other Americans have to pay. They have a lot of individual sovereignty. It's almost like autonomous states. It's similar to the Cantons of Switzerland where they really can do what they want. They're not even subject to many Federal laws or state laws, and I think that's good, and I think that they have a right to preserve their heritage, and I think there's a special accord we could give to many of the people who lived here. You see, the truth is that Indian reservations actually compose literally millions and millions and millions of acres. And we recognize the idea that the Indians have a right to preserve their heritage and their culture. In fact, we absolutely don't allow Europeans to go (against their wishes) into those Indian reservations, right? They have that right, but isn't that interesting how there's a double standard today? And it's also true that there were very few Indians in proportion to this huge land mass of Canada and America, but they certainly fought very bravely to defend their own hunting grounds, their own territories which you'd expect of any people. You can't condemn any people for doing such. But Indian population figures were never huge in these huge vast Americas; and there were migrations of people historically. And finally, the truth is that all peoples now (whether they be Indian, whether they be African, whether they be Asian) we need to respect each others culture, allow for each others culture to survive and be preserved and absolutely endorse the idea that no one has the right to exploit or harm or try to destroy anybody else's culture.

@@westernessence7644 as a bi-racial man…I hate how the woke SJW act like everything white people have done is bad….while ironically enjoying the comforts of many white inventions…yes white peoples have done some bad things in history, but everyone else has also….I use to be a die hard SJW until I started to see the hypocrisy and pandering and know I consider myself politically an independent….I’m someone who appreciates aspects of other cultures so how can I then turn around and say “all white people bad/racist”….I understand your just proud of your culture and woke people will try to construe it like you’re proud of racism/sexism/ etc…as if that all white peoples have brought…not realizing most western nations…founded by white people are very peaceful…again not that any non-white country is horrible….but just saying we can deny the founding fathers have a vision of what a free country could be like, even despite the fact that they themselves where far from perfect…and because we are human with weakness, we sometimes sabotage that vision, but the fact that that document is still respected and admired by other people who have started revolutions because they believe in that vision should be acknowledged and if where going to talk about all the bad that white people have done let’s at least be fair and give credit to that

If anyone is wondering why this is an offensive question, it's because they're making it about themselves and their government. This question of who is the preferable government misses the point that every Canadian government is guilty as she went to say. People really don't understand what this country looks like to us Indigenous people if they don't see what's wrong with that question.

These women blew up an opportunity to get support for MMIWG. All they did was alienate people. Yes this reporter turned this into a political/partisan issue. But the reaction to her question was out of bounds. Here's a response. "Ma'am, I understand what you're saying, but this is not about politics. I don't care who the Prime Minister is. No, I don't think Harper would have paid much attention to this problem. But Trudeau isn't doing enough either. No one is. That's our point, and that's why we're here. I understand you may like Trudeau and want to defend him from criticism. But this problem is bigger than politics. We want to raise awareness of unsolved MMIWG cases to ALL leaders and push ALL leaders to address this problem."

I have to say that I'm extremely disappointed by this comment section. Apparently the media can't freely ask legitimate questions without getting shut down by disrespectful and racist speakers. Of course these women probably went through lots in their life but that absolutely does not justify taking out your own problems on others. We need to focus on the future and let go of the past already.

Jeff Holden I couldn't clearly gear the question nor would I be able to fully understand where the speakers are coming from because I haven't experienced it or have any personal connection to it. But I do empathize with them because I too come from a people who have been disenfranchised and mistreated. A fact! Never will a group of people just LET it go. To this day people Natives are still being mistreated and others. When that stops then we will LET it go

Jeff Holden how can we focus on the future when we do not address the past? It’s the past that has led us to this point. The issues of today stem from the issues of the past. So, that doesn’t quite make sense. That’s like saying ignore that slavery happened. But it was slavery that led to Jim Crow and it was Jim Crow that led to Civil Rights Movement and it was that that has still affected us today.

White lady should have shut up when asked. They are activists because of what they see true injustice that has a caused the death of many, a question of if someone did a little better then someone else may have insulted them because they probably feel like they are dying. I am not sure exactly what was disrespectful about the question, but I guess when you are talking about 500 something cases of injustice and even massacres and you are there to get the government to hear the plea. I do see how she would be offended by the question or it be seen as completely irrelevant. Even if it was not a disrespectful question and just felt insulting because it diminished their cause, it should be enough for the white lady to ship up. She kept asking her to stop and the white lady was disrespectful in that way. Maybe that was her job as a journalist to ask that specific question, but if they see it as insulting well you better be quiet or get lectured as she did hear. This isn’t about answering stupid questions to them, they are trying to get their message and have a mission at hand, the government as done very little in comparison to what has been taken in regards to treaties that were actually signed to give to them. So for example they probably saw the question as insulting like saying didn’t the governor hand out plates of food on thanksgiving day? while they were talking about broken treaties that caused death and broken school systems that caused many problems such as alcoholism, underfunded medical help, deaths etc.
