Tensions rise between Pauw and Katie McCabe in controversial end to Ireland's World Cup.
Ireland's World Cup controversially finished with Vera Pauw publicly reprimanding Katie McCabe for calling for a change to be made to the team with the Ireland captain appearing to respond to Pauw with a mouth zipped emoji on social media.
Ireland gained their first point of the World Cup with a 0-0 draw with Nigeria in Brisbane. With Pauw's contract coming to an end, Dave Kelly discussed the rising tension between the manager and the captain and the possible ramifications of this fall-out with Sinéad Kissane on Indo World Cup Daily.

I read Dave Kelly article in today's indo and was so happy to see he had checked the stats on Farrelly and McCabe in the Nigeria game. As he pointed out " Farrelly ran 11,274 metres during what was only the second 90 minutes of football she has played in eight years. That was more than 1,000m more than McCabe. Farrelly also did more high-intensity running than anyone else, far exceeding McCabe’s numbers." Farrelly made a bigger contribution to Ireland's performance against Nigeria than McCabe, and McCabe does need to zip her mouth.

Katie is a great player but I think getting a bit too big for her boots needs Ruesha to keep her grounded

McCabe is a generational talent. You may invest into women's football as much $ as you can and still not see a player like her in next 15 years.

I watched all of Ireland's match against Nigeria. What stood out was Sinead Farrelly's performance. She was easily the best outfield player for Ireland on the pitch (Vera Pauw said she was "arguably" the best - there was no arguably about it.) The other Irish player who really stood out was the goalkeeper, Courtney Brosnan. After the match I saw that Katie McCabe had suggested to Vera Pauw during the match that Sinead Farrelly should be replaced. That was a ridiculous suggestion and raises questions about Katie McCabe's (lack of) judgement and her motivation in making such a suggestion.
