Dutch also brought enslaved Indonesians and west Africans to work on a cape colony when they colonized South Africa . Van Riebeeck wanted to enslave the locals who had a year early rescued a Dutch ship and hosted its people with great hospitality. He read their kindness as weakness . The company refused his request to enslave locals because they still felt indebted to how they had not only rescued their employees but kept them in great hospitality till Van Riebeevk came to get them so they approved Van Riebeeck to bring slaves from west Africa and Botavia , later indentured servants from India were brought too .

Well, in my opinion, the reason why the Dutch need to apologize(although I agree violence is happening for both sides), is because the Dutch is the one who started it and basically the agressor. In my school, we taught that the Dutch were very welcomed at first. And then they monopolize the trade and meddling with local conflicts, thus leading to the death of hundred thousands of Indonesians. Well, history is a lesson. And for a bit more POV, my Grandfather is a veteran from Indonesia. He's from Kediri, but stationed at Semarang. He loves telling the story on how he and his squad ambushes the Dutch convoy, and running away from machine guns and mortars while laughing. I swear it. He seems overjoyed and said, "Who said risking life is terrifying? It's fun you know. We run and run, the ground is exploded around us, while the Dutch shooting at us using their machine guns".

🇮🇩 maybe yes, we will never forget - 🌍Dutch East Indies.!!!. oh 🟢 Al Jazeera English.. You must know!. That is the world we seek, But we can only achieve it together√. I know there are many -- Muslim and non-Muslim -- who question whether we can forge this new beginning? ... Some are eager to stoke the flames of division. and to stand in the way of progress. Some suggest that it isn't worth the effort -- that we are fated to disagree. and civilizations are doomed to clash. Many more are simply skeptical that real change can occur√. There's so much fear | so much mistrust that has built up over the years. But if we choose to be bound by the past, O 🌏Al Jazeera English! - we .. will never move forward√. Thank you. And May God's peace be upon you all: Indonesian people!. # Thank you. 🌏 ### .

It was not war....but it was the INTRUSION - illegal intrusion on the Indonesian people. Simple word of APOLOGY cannot undo the murder, massacre and genocides of Indonesians. Indonesians are not slaves or indebted to the Dutch. It was not only the people but their lands Dutch confiscated and the all the natural resources robbed and reaped matters the Indonesians pride. APOLOGY does not stand on words but huge amount of compensation need to be paid. Lastly, when does the Dutch do the same to Malaysia and the Malaysians?? Your 400 years of colonisation and equal ill-treatment to Indonesians are the same to us. We need your answers.

My grandfather died to defend Indonesian independence. The Dutch soldiers tortured him to death in the prison. The apology may not bring him back. However, my family have forgiven the Dutch since along time ago. We cannot change the past, but we can make a future: a great one.

The woke movement has flown over from the US to the Netherlands. I condem the actions of my country in the past but don't feel any guilt since I wasn't even born in that time. Let the past rest and focus on the future, Netherlands and Germany, for example, have been eachothers greatest trading partners since the end of WW2. Lets hope that this will also happen between the Netherlands and Indonesia!
@峽羽7732 жыл бұрын
@@Staann Well, let's not forget Japan hasn't apologized for their war crime committed in Asia. Especially the Nanking massacre in 1937, killing of civilians. Do you know the Japanese government now even alter the view of wars in their schools tried to justify the cause of wars they waged in the past!

Indeed, each person responsible for their own action, its just diplomatic way in state level, same like when your family did something bad to the neighbours etc just normal thing to do, plus a reminding to the new generations also about history lesson so nobody repeat the same mistake. You get the whole points? Start from this "apologize", at least our stolen artefacts can go home to Indonesia.
@YouOnUsPath2 жыл бұрын
@@Staann of course you doesnt need feel guilts as new generation lol each person responsible for their own action, this "apologize events" is just diplomatic state level purpose between 2 country, since still many the victims still alive and our stolen artefacts in Netherlands etc. And this just for reminding purpose for the real new generations (generation millenia etc) about history so everybody can take lesson from it and nobody repeat the same mistake. Its never about the woke lol but if you follow the geopol you will know the real spider-web. I am as Indonesian 90s generations doesnt has that boomers mentality as well and doesnt has crazy mind for asking you as new generation take responsible for action did by older generation in the past lmao even of course all my grand grand fathers and grand fathers is veterans (all of them already passed away, plus nobody from them teach for hates each dutch person of course not lol we are muslim not allow to teach hates plus if someone ask apologize we should give forgiveness). but today still many the victims from first generation and second generation which still alive and remember it. So this "apologize" thing is specific for them and state level to the whole Indonesian.

Sure it was violent on all sides, it was war. But so was Vietnam, and Iraq, and WW2. To say it's okay to commit massacres just because "its war" is like saying Hitler didn't do anything wrong. It is in fact, almost exactly the same as saying that. "It's just war, there is gonna be violence." The Dutch: Murdered up to 100k Indonesians after already enslaving them for 300 years, probably killed way more before the war even happened.
