Did you know how big Indonesia is?? Honestly i had no idea until we booked our flights here and i started to look into how to get around. With over 17,000 islands, it’s the largest archipelago in the world. It’s also the country with the 4th highest population. I was amazed to learn that Indonesia is even wider than the continental United States!
Having so many different islands makes Indonesia extremely diverse. There are so many different cultures all over the country which we wanted to learn about! Luckily we heard about Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) - a recreational park/museum in Jakarta that’s the perfect place to learn about all the different cultures we’ll be visiting in Indonesia over the next 2 months!
Unfortunately when we arrived we didnt see much information.. We decided to go straight to the cable car in hopes that we’d be able to see the layout of TMII from above. The cable car cost 50,000 Rp each (double the entrance price of 25,000 Rp each) although we think it was worth it because we could already see so much from the sky! The park is laid out like a map of Indonesia with all the different areas positioned where they would be geographically. We were able to see the different styles of houses from Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, and many other places which we will soon be visiting! We also saw so many other interesting traditional houses and outfits from places like Borneo and Papua. It was amazing to see how all of these unique cultures make up Indonesia! Of course we had to stop by the famous TMII castle for a picture. We also didn’t realize how big the reptile section was!! It was an additional 25,000 Rp to enter, but they had so many different animals - including real Komodo Dragons! We had such an amazing time exploring Taman Mini Indonesia and now we’re even more excited to explore Indonesia for the next 2 months!!

One of my favourite since early 1980's: children palace at East Jakarta at Mini Beautiful Indonesia Park of over 35 cultures and traditional palaces around this world's richest natural resources the center of the equator with 3 timezones GMT +7, +8, +9 (Madurodam in The Netherlands is really tiny just as tiny and very poor as the country and the rest of western world). The last photo us family together was here, few weeks before Mother died with my younger sister right after her birth delivery November 6th 1986 Super Modern Jakarta International Airport The Best Airports in The World: Jakarta (Banten to be exact) and Singapore (Singapore's airport raw materials came from Indonesia) Sorry even Dubai and the rest of Middle East airports are too standard nothing special. My Beloved Birth Province Bantam (present day Banten province just next to Jakarta) the very first Dutch settlement in whole Indonesia before expansion to Batavia present day Jakarta, I was able to speak Bantanese first since birth then later Minangkabau of Sumatra, as daily I spoke Bantanese but my Father, Mother and much older cousins from Sumatra all spoken Sumatran. Bantam and Jakarta the real biggest hub of Asia and Pacific not Singapore not Hongkong. Jakarta only is 6x size of Paris Europe's largest city, Jakarta 2021 STA winner (Global best sustainable public transportation). There are many projects built to solve the floods around North Jakarta and Bantam/Banten. The media won't tell you as they're only focusing on the floods/sinking but not on the solution, one of so many reasons I'm not into tv and mainstream media as they dumb you down. Bantam on most western coast of Java bridging Jakarta and Sumatra with Krakatau/Krakatoa in between. Where South and Central Jakarta meet up, my childhood neighborhood also to Barack Obama, many foreign embassies around including Dutch embassy only 10 minutes walking from my first penthouse in year 2000 (Puri Casablanca Apartment Residence, next to old Dutch cemetery) while my Grandparents houses are around South and Central Jakarta since Dutch colonial period. Jakarta (6 times size of Paris, Europe's largest city) is sinking is hoax to lessen new comers to come in, Dutch Dam technology has been built on Northern coast of the Megapolitan. Jakarta is Winner of Global Sustainable Transportation 2021. Indonesia on world map had been pictured too small since 1569 Mercator, as 1577 The Netherlands-Belgium-Luxembourg were under the pressure of the Spanish. This Emerald of The Equator Line Real Indonesia in comparison to Europe is stretching from UK to Russia. #Jakarta #Indonesia #WonderfulIndonesia #WonderfulIndonesia2023

The fun fact is that Indonesia is kind of both impossible-miracle country why? back in year 1950s there are some European professors predicting that Indonesia will not last long and will be divided into several countries for next 10 years because it's too diverse, but it doesn't happened, fast forward during Asian crisis in 1998, those years our political and economy is the most beaten, and highly inflated (you can notice the zeroes in your Rupiah's banknote hehe) Indonesia predicted again will be balkanized, but yet we survived and still big as today, although we are more diverse than US, Europe, or Balkans countries combined but for almost 80 years we still exist as single country, that's why Indonesia is unique you won't find anywhere, both the people, the cultures, the 700+ languages can be united by one language Bahasa Indonesia and one Identity as Indonesian. Small info: The secret of our united and patrioticism is because of its National Language itself, Bahasa Indonesia is new single language created in 1928 in Dutch East Indies to Unite all Islands in Indonesia and its worked, from an Austronesian old-Malay modified and mixed by colonizer's of course (Dutch and Portuguese), Trader's languages (Arabs-Indian-Chinese), Several of locals languages (Javanese-Sundanese-Balinese-more), now you can just using Bahasa Indonesia to speak in all of Indonesian Islands, that's why most of Indonesians is hard to learn and speak English, because we are already trilingual, speaks 3 or more languages (Bahasa Indonesian, and 2 locals language + bonus English/Arabs)

All of the houses are supposed to be open for visitors, but I guess some were still under renovation. I’m glad that you at least get to visit the Papua pavilion. 7:05 I’m from the province of South Kalimantan where we have a lot of rivers and they’re supposed to represent our traditional boats, but sadly they don’t usually come on amphibious wheels 😂 10:48 those statues are replicas of the real deal from a national park in the province of Central Sulawesi, a long way to go from Toraja in South Sulawesi that you’re visiting. 15:04 There are actually tribes in the province of South Papua who live in treehouses, Google “Korowai” if you want to find out about them. 18:33 I feel sad for the condition of the reptile museum. I hope that the staff is taking good care of the reptiles there.

@@NataliesPassport You can jump to another island by plane, or you can take the train if you are on one island, or if the distance is too far you can take the plane, for example you are from Jakarta going to Surabaya, or jogjakarta, if you are using the train, take the train from Jakarta to Surabaya api 10.5 hours of travel, but by plane 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes if the trip is made from Soekarno-Hatta International airport. it saves more time if you use the plane, but the drawback is that we can't see the beautiful scenery, rice fields and plantations, we can only take the train to see it all

We don't travel at midday these days! FYI, the houses in Taman Mini are not usually open during working days. Some of them may be open in weekends but usually only when there is a cultural event in the specific house/spot.

I asked my foreign friend who had an opportunity to travel around Indonesia. I asked his impression of Indonesia, and his first exclamation is: "Each part of Indonesia is different!" Indonesia has around 17.000 islands. If you hop on one island per day, you'll need around 46 years to complete. In my around 20 years of traveling around Indonesia, I still find something new in every part.

Yeah, as an Indonesian, and also someone whom had been there (The TMII or Taman Mini Indonesia Indah means Mini Beautiful Indonesia Park) I agree that it's quite a pity, that they don't provide specific and unique restaurant of the region's menus, in each of the Province's mock-up buildings/area. That should be marvelous, had they done so! Still, I suggest, do try the *Masakan Minang / Masakan Padang (West Sumatrans Food) as Beef Rendang (one special Minang style Food) was voted THE MOST DELICIOUS Meal in the world via CNN survey.* 😊 A Minang / Padang restaurant is quite easy to find all over Indonesia, since it is very popular, even with foreigners! Also popular in Jakarta. I suggest you two go to famous Minang restaurants in Jakarta such as: Sederhana SA chain restaurants, Natrabu, Pagi Sore, Garuda, Sari Bundo and so on. Do try that famous Beef Rendang, Dendeng Balado (Beef Jerky with Chili), Ayam Gulai (Minang Style Chicken Curry), Gulai Kepala Ikan (Fish Head Minang Style Curry), Sate Padang (Beef Satay - Minang Style), Soto Padang (Padang Style Beef Jerky clear Soup with spices, soft and tasty taste), Ayam Baka (Roasted Chicken - Minang Style), etc. They would put dozens of plates with various foods to chose from, you can choose anything you like, and you'll only have to pay for what you eat. *Other options:* East Java food. And since it is the most populated province, it has so many various popular menu like Soto Ayam Lamongan (Chicken Soto/Soup of Lamongan area with very rich taste), Soto Madura Daging Sapi (Beef Soto/Soup with very rich taste), Sate Kambing Madura (Mutton Satay - Madura Style), Rawon Daging Sapi (Dark Beef spicy very tasty Soup), etc. *Then, some of other popular choices:* Central Java Food, Aceh Food, West Java (Sunda) Food, Lombok Food, Bali Food, Manado Food, Banjar Food, Makassar food, and so on. Each with its own distinctive taste! Believe me, each one, and all, are good! Since most of the best spices in the world, come from our country! Also remember, Nasi Goreng (Fried Rice) is very popular, and you'll find various uncountable variations all over Indonesia. And since you are now in Jakarta, as Jakarta is the largest city of Indonesia, a 'melting pot of cultures', I think you'll be able to find all of those Menus in Jakarta quite easily. The good ones, and sometimes the bad ones, I must say ... *Last, as you already found out, Indonesia is indeed huge! The World's largest Archipelago! Between two huge continents and two huge oceans!* *Our country consists of over 17,000 islands, over 1,300 ethnic groups, over 700 languages* ... *With around 280 million people, Indonesia is the world's fourth-most populous country and the most populous Muslim-majority country.* *Java, the world's most populous island, is home to more than half of the country's population.* Welcome!

@@indrapramana8128 people in Bali generally better than the rest of Indonesia in terms of tourism service. Bali economy pretty much relied on tourism industry that's the people should follow where's the money at. Unlike Lombok (NTB province) which still had other source of income like from mining industry.

Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, also known as Beautiful Indonesia Miniature Park, is a spacious cultural park in Jakarta that showcases Indonesia's diverse cultures and traditions. It features replicas of traditional houses from various Indonesian provinces and islands, as well as museums and exhibits showcasing the country's history and art. In the past, visitors who wanted to get around TMII could use private transportation. However, after being taken over by the government and revitalized last year, currently visitors who want to get around TMII can only walk or ride the vehicles that have been provided.

Indonesia wide range from the west to eastest are equal from London to Istambul. With 3 different time zone. Even you're living in Indonesia you can't explore all of the island. Btw. The best and wise way travelling around Java is taking the train. Take the executive class book from app. And the station is Gambir station. Take the morning train, you'll be paid with astonishing scenary along the way.

Hi Natalie and Carles, thanks for visiting Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, it's just 15 minutes by walking from my home! Taman Mini is one of my favorite spots for Sunday morning running besides the Car Free Day Thamrin-Sudirman in Central Jakarta😊 I always take my friends and colleagues from all over the world to visit Taman Mini first before exploring other places/islands in Indonesia. Pick your favorite cultures and experience them yourself. Because as you said, Indonesia is huge! You can't finish Indonesia within a week, a month, or even a year! I even haven't finished visit all provinces in Indonesia 🇮🇩 My suggestions for you: you must visit both West and East Nusa Tenggara (NTB and NTT) where Lombok, Gili, Sumba, Labuan Bajo, Waerebo Village and other interesting places there! Enjoy Wonderful Indonesia 😊🇮🇩 Greeting from London.

What you see some scary stuff in each area is only in the past. Now everything is more modern, but we must not forget the past. Every tribes and ethnics in Indonesia have traditional weapons, and have a traditional "war dance" too, for centuries. That's because of colonial era in the past. In that situation, traditional weapons were created to fight in order to defend their homeland from colonialism. That means there are hundreds kind of traditional weapons in Indonesia. Part of them did not remain again, because the weapons were confiscated by the colonials and their skills in making weapons were also vanish forever. But there are still hundreds of traditional weapons from other tribes and ethnics that have been saved. *Indonesia is HUGE. Quick info about indonesia:* Indonesia is the largest archipelagic country in the world with 17,508 islands, Indonesia's land area is 1,919,440 km2 and an ocean area of 3,257,483 km2. The area spans 3,977 miles. Indonesia has 127 active volcanoes, the most in the world. There are more than 360 ethnic groups and 652 regional languages in Indonesia that have been identified and validated. It includes dialects and sub-dialects, there are 718 languages, as much as 90 percent are spread across eastern Indonesia. Indonesia has more than 75 traditional dances from Aceh to Papua. The chairman of the Indonesian Mosque Council (DMI) revealed that the number of mosques in Indonesia is more than 800,000, and that includes the Musala (small mosque), and and there are more than 70,000 churches spread across various regions in Indonesia. Some of them have large buildings and magnificent architecture. Even though the majority is Muslim, Indonesia has more than 1000 ancient temples (not modern temples, they are difference), so Indonesia deserves to be called the land of 1001 temples. The national symbol of Indonesia is the Garuda bird, a big and very tough bird in Hindu stories. Indonesia's national motto is in Sanskrit, namely Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, which is written on the cloth gripped by the feet of the Garuda bird on the national symbol. The meaning of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika is "Unity in Diversity". The latest inventory results in early 2022 stated that currently there are 1818 bird species in Indonesia. This makes Indonesian bird species make up approximately 17% of the total bird species in the world, which reaches 9700 species. There are approximately 25,000 species of flora in Indonesia or more than 10% of plant species worldwide. It is known, currently there are a total of 4,782 native Indonesian fish species spread across various water areas. Of these, 1,248 freshwater fish species, 3,534 marine fish species, 130 endemic fish species, 120 introduced species, 150 endangered species, and 13 invasive species. There are 2,500 species of mollusks, 2,000 species of crustaceans, 6 species of sea turtles, 30 marine mammals, and more than 2,500 species of marine fish. The area of Indonesia's coral reef ecosystem is estimated to reach 2.5 million hectares. The number of tourist attractions in Indonesia is more than 2,500 locations, 1,865 are managed by the private sector, 556 are managed by local governments, 72 are managed by the Authority and as many as 59 tourist objects are managed by the central government. Indonesia has the most number of malls and plazas for shopping in the world, the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) notes, there are 649 shopping centers throughout Indonesia in 2020. And finally, it is recorded that there are more than 5,300 authentic Indonesian dishes, is that crazy?
