I never get less impressed by your effort to pronounce local names correctly. It is quite immaculate, and the locals shouldn't be too confused when listening to you pronouncing names. Surabaya is my hometown and place of birth. We often went back by planes. Used to be 1 hour 5 minutes flight, but with traffic and route patterns, it is now at least 1 hour 20 minutes (airlines asking 1 hour 30 minutes to avoid being considered delays). That on top of the 1 hour+ you take from downtown to Soekarno-Hatta Airport, another hour for the check-in and other air travel rituals, and another 2 hours for the same over Juanda Airport. In total, it practically takes 5+ hours door-to-door by plane. The train approximately takes 4 extra hours. Both Gambir and Pasar Turi is right in the middle of the city and easily accessible by all kinds of public transport. This is exactly why a Whoosh connection will easily doom any air travel demand, except for those living in Western Jakarta or Sidoarjo / Southern Surabaya. There is no beating that 3 hours 30 minutes travel time from Cilitan Halim to western Surabaya satellite towns. It easily equalises total air travel time, but without all the undignifying security rituals or safety restrictions. Being able to play with your phone, walk around the train, stretch your leg anytime, easily makes any grown up aviation enthusiast prefers HSR over planes.

As an Indonesian myself, I have to agree that this is the best intercity train at the moment! Fastest among conventional trains by quite a margin, and practically lie-flat beds for the whole trip. I'd definitely take this over the Compartment Suites train any time.

4:30 there is a plan that Argo Bromo Anggrek train will have lesser stop in the future, possibly in 2025. This is an attempt by KAI to shorten the travel time into 7 hours 30 minutes. Argo Bromo Anggrek are mostly popular with passenger that are going to Surabaya with fastest time so there is huge potential market for decreasing travel time despite not having passengers from certain cities between the route. 7:10 glad that you address the dynamic pricing system in KAI's long distance train. Even some Indonesian have confusion with the bracket price of the ticket each class. Anyway, that was a great video. Good job and congrats foe your experience.

@riffatpramatyo999 Tidak perlu. Dengan kecepatan maksimal 120km/jam masih bisa dikejar dengan waktu tempuh 7 jam 30 menit atau setidaknya 7 jam 45 menit. Pemberhentian yang dihilangkan adalah di Cirebon dan Bojonegoro, dan dua petak tersebut berada di lintasan dengan taspat 120 km/jam, jadi KA Argo Bromo Anggrek masih bisa lumayan konstan melaju dengan kecepatan 120 km/jam. Kecepatan tinggi yang konstan bisa memperpendek waktu tempuh, jadi walaupun kecepatan maksimalnya 120 km/jam tapi tetap bisa lebih singkat waktu tempuhnya.

Naik kereta api, tut tut tuut, siapa hendak turut? Ke Bandung, Surabaya!!! The nursery rhymes my dad used to sing me when I was a little Tot. Speaking of little Tot's, when I were a sprog, Gambir was slap bang on ground level before they elevated it in the early 90's. To Juxtapose from the previous comments, nostalgic me would remember the old rolling stock, resplendent in Blue for Executive (with AC), Green for Business (ceiling fans) and Red for Ecomony - proper Rishi Sunak Pesant class with wooden benches. If you did your review in the 90's, you'll see hawkers bundling in at every station selling their wares, or in some instances local delicacies from each city. Beats your trolley service on the Valleys Line between Cardiff and Ebbw Vale. The trains were also usually targeted when it came to footie away days as well, so it wasn't uncommon to see your train window views being spoiled by something that would sound like Stone Cold Steve Austin's shattered glass. Personally, my most recommended Indo train rides would be the Parahyangan from Jakarta to Bandung or the onward train, Argo Willis from Bandung to Surabaya across the central spine for the bang tidy train window views in the panoramic cars. My girls loved the service on that train and were just completely engrossed with the volcanoes and rice paddies. That said, I'm spoiled for train window views since the Severn Valley, Gloucester - Lydney - Newport line is up there with one of the best.

I have travelled from Jakarta to Surabaya in luxury class 3 times (most recently in October 2024). I always enjoy the train journey and it is a nice change from air travel. The luxury class is a very good product and I also highly recommend it. I have also travelled on the compartment class - I thought it was worth the cost. The compartment class train also takes a more scenic route through central Java so I found it good, but it does take longer than the direct route along the north coast of Java.

We went from Jakarta to Bali stopping several times for a few days in each place and crossing by the ferry. I remember the interesting cigarette factory museum in Surabaya and a few nice shopping malls. Most of the trains were overcrowded but comfortable, fairly slow.

Both Cirebon and Semarang are recommended. I lived in Cirebon for 2 months in 2014. It is a small sultanate city, like Yogyakarta or Solo. The difference is, Cirebon is much smaller, so it gives you a more laid-back vibe than the growing Jogja. As the estern-most city of West Java, Cirebon has a distinct culture, like a mixed of Sundanese and Javanese. If you love history, culture, and culinary, Cirebon is for you. Semarang is a melting pot where you may find strong Chinese influence. Its Chinatown is a major tourist destination along with the old town (Kota Lama). Semarang is home to stunning old Dutch colonial buildings as well as major Chinese temples like Sam Poo Kong Temple and Pagoda Avalokitesvara.

7:20 As a bitter Bornean, I can’t quite agree with you, considering that railways in Indonesia only cover the island of Java, a few scattered routes in Sumatra, and a short track in southern Sulawesi. 😩 That being said, I do enjoy taking the train in Java, but sometimes flights are actually cheaper. With the current pricing, it’s hard to see who KAI is targeting. After all, it takes over eight hours by train from Jakarta to Surabaya, while a flight only takes under two hours.

Brazil has better innercity a.k.a urban railways than Indonesia tho. Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro has more urban rail network (metro + commuter train + trams) than Jakarta (the only city that have multiple electrified line of commuter trains and metros).

Fun fact about this Argo Bromo Anggrek, it's actually the first of 'Argo Series' train (previously named Argo Bromo) and it's holding top priority in Indonesian railway, meaning it's literal king of Indonesian railway and must be prioritize to last stop without interruption (except if there's president train passing by ofc), even it's code number in chart is 1 to 6 (highest)

Actually, in the Cirebon to Semarang segment, there is a beautiful sea view Which is located on the left side of the train from the direction of Jakarta and on the right side of the train from the direction of Surabaya. Unfortunately you are on the right side of the train coming from Jakarta so you can't see the sea.

Great trip. I've try this train only short ride from Semarang to Surabaya using brand new Executive Class trainset which is great, thanks to the Independence Day Fare promo. This train considered as King of Northern Railway, beside the few intermediate stop, the train number is below than 10 (in Indonesia, smaller train number you get, your train got more priority than the other), also the seating class on the train is having effect. Next time you visit Indonesia, please try the Airlangga Train which on the Jakarta - Surabaya route is considered as cheapest transportation method or trying Blambangan Ekspres which considered as longest passenger train route in Indonesia.

Oh no Airlangga Train??! That's the cheapest train's ticket fare that I know so far. But the carriages and loko is pretty old which got recondition and that train got goverment subsidies become less 50% fare prices than other intercity train.. But that oldest train is no good anymore, too noisy and have old suspension system I guess.

FYI : Real sleeping suites existed in Indonesia around the 60s to 80s (or 90s? cmiiw) with the code "SAGW" (the model is similar to the Vietnamese sleeping train). And it was on the Jakarta-Surabaya Bima train (btw, the Bima train has been around since 1967, so it's old). However, this model of sleeping car was removed due to widespread sexual harassment. The sleeping train itself only returned in 2019, where generation 1 is at Argo Bromo Anggrek (which is in this video), generation 2 is at Gajayana and Sembrani, generation 3 (released 2023) is at Argo Lawu/Argo Dwipangga and Taksaka, and the most "expensive" are the compartment suites released in October 2023 which are now on the Bima and Argo Semeru trains (which are also have you tried before). For the next, try the panoramic service on the Jakarta-Bandung train (Pangandaran train or Papandayan train) or Bandung-Surabaya (Argo Wilis). And try it on the morning train, not the evening train!

I recommend you try Pandalungan from Surabaya Pasar Turi to Semarang Tawang(Executive H Class), transit from Semarang Tawang to Yogyakarta Tugu using Joglosemarkerto(Executive A Class) and finally back to Jakarta from Yogyakarta Tugu with Taksaka, either their Luxury H service or their Executive AA.

I was born in Cirebon, 71 years ago. Cirebon has unique dialect, because the location in between Java, that use Javanese dialect, and West Java , mostly speak Sundanese dialect. Of course like every city in Indonesia, always has unique food as a legacy for each city. Cirebon has Empal Gentong, a beef soup in with certain spice, this food is the most populair and can be found also in another big City. Nasi Jamblang, or Jamblang Rice, this food also unique, the rica presented in Teakwood Leaf wrapping, and the condiment for this rice , can be chosen from tofu, tempeh, stew beef, stew squid, Quail egg satay, and fried beef lung and many more, and of course special sambal/ chili paste. Another unique dish is Gado-gado Kari Ayam and now slightly difficult to find, as only several vendor sell this dish it consist vegetables like normal Gado-gado in Jakarta/Surabaya, but with topping of shreded cooked chicken meat, and than add peanut sauce , and the last as finishing chcken curry soup added. For sight seeing , Cirebon has 4 small palaces. And outside the city , there are natural hot spring water pools, some pools belong the hotels. Natural spring water pool also available in Linggarjati and Cibulan, you can swing together with large carp fish that live inside the pool.

i haven't ride KAI trains for quite some time but ..... Audio Technica Headphones!?!?!? IN KAI TRAIN!?!?!?!? oh how our dear KAI have changed. Bravo KAI! from comically terrible in the '90s, into okay in 2000s, to nice in 2010s, and "ok that's actually quite awesome" in 2020s. hope they ironed out the entertainment system bugs. it's nice to see they changed for the better as the time progress. they sure take their time but well... still a good thing to see!

You should try the new luxury train btw, mind you the newest one is using dark maroon colour seat, not the blue colour seat, in my opinion the first generation (in this video) is still the best compared to the 2nd and 3rd generation, although the 3rd gen is better than 2nd gen. 😅

you should try panoramic train and Compartment Suites If you have time, there's the biggest museum train in Southeast Asia. It's called the Ambarawa Railway Museum in Semarang. If you know the schedule, you can enjoy a vintage train from Abarawa to Tuntang and back again to Ambarawa.

This is the 1st gen of luxury car launched on 2017/18. Maybe you can try the 2nd gen of luxury car which is attached to the Gajayana Train bound to Malang from Gambir. The seat configuration is 2-1 and the seat can set to which direction train is going, so it's impossible to get backwards facing. Or if you want to see a more stunning view of alley and rice fields, you can board Argo Wilis train in highest class of Panoramic. The train bounds to Surabaya Gubeng from Bandung. So to be clear, Surabaya Pasar Turi serves for the train that arrives from and Departs to Northern track While Surabaya Gubeng serves for the train that arrives from and Departs to Southern track just like when you boarded Bima compartement.

Sir you try Gumarang train with "legend" class there is busines class. They have a big chair and comfortable , large leg room so you can lie down under the chair,However, this train uses old facilities with carriages from the 70s and 80s. But you Must try one time of your life time trying trip with Indonesian train before the government removes this class. Because many Indonesian people like this class because they chair very comfortable and this class have a nostalgic memory for some Indonesian people. Destination this train is jakarta pasar Senen to Surabaya pasar Turi east Java for the price IDR 300-400.000rupiah. don't be afraid to interac with another pasengger They are friendly and kind people as long as you don't disturb their comfort and maintain your manners. Oh no Gumarang train suggestion again.. It's too old, and might be remove soon. That train still exist and maintained because it provides an alternative for passengers who need trains with cheap fares because those trains receive subsidies from the government, such as the Airlangga Train which is less than half the original fare of the intercity train service and even though the standards minimum service regulation of KAI are maintained, the train is too old and takes longer time duration to reach its destination with CC201 or CC202 Loko's I think

It's actually used to test new Flyover Rail caled Flyover Rail Joglo, they testing with 8 Locomotive with different types locomotive, type locomotive 3 CC 201, 2 CC 203, 1 CC 204 and 2 CC 300, you might be don,t know about this, but maybe you can search on Google or maybe on KZbin 11:18 also do you see that green yellow locomotive? Thats a CC 201 or GE U18C using Vintage Livery, this Livery are Rare because its commonly used when PT. KAI still named PJKA (1953 - 1991), but not actual using livery since first time GE U18C arrived in Indonesia, Livery Vintage is only used GE U18C from 1977 until around 1991, in 2021, PT. KAI brings back Vintage Livery to CC 201 with serial number 69 or 83 31 Sorry if my English Bad 😅

Not fun fact: every year (usually in January) Semarang Tawang Bank Jateng train station is flooded. When that happen, diesel hydraulic locomotive usually helps the trainset run pass the floods as the diesel electric locomotive can't get wet. This is the only moment when the diesel hydraulic locomotive stored at Semarang usually runs and move their wheels for a while.

Yeah you absolutely right this luxury class gen 2 more reasonable price than Luxury Class Compartment Suite, but I heard the Compartment Suite's carriage has been renovated, with new suspension system and soundproofing but I think it's useless if the old track line that is wavy at some points is not made new. Of course it requires huge funding. I prefer the newest one, called Luxury Class Premium new gen which has better seat model, and better entertainment smartTV. I have never tried Priority Class Wisata, because there are not many routes available.

SG doesn't have mainline railway, The Philippines' railways is in shamble tho they're in the middle of revitalizing it now, Lao's semi-high speed rail is great but idk about other service, Cambodia is.... idk, Myanmar.... well... you better not to expect too much from a country in the middle of a civil war. Brunei and Timor doesn't have any railway as for now.

If only they made this kind of seating on the newer train, that'll be epic. The seats on the compartment train (which have the same 1+1 configuration) are a bit cramped and stiffer compared to this, let alone the next generations of luxury (which has 2+1 configuration). Although the downside is the seat can't be rotated according to the train's direction

Just for your information this Luxury Car was made in 2018 and still using the TB1014 (Early Model) aka K10 Bogie but the new one that was made in 2024 and named Luxury Stainless Steel New Generation is using the TB1014-NG (New Generation) which have much better suspension and sound proofing and alot of Indonesian KZbinr or Vlogger say the sound proofing is much better than the earlier model i recommend you to try that Oh yeah and one thing I want to tell you is that the track quality in Northern Mainline is worse than the Southern Mainline that why the train can only reach 90km/h cuz the Southern Mainline is much busier than the Northern Mainline cuz the Tourism City Yogyakarta but the good news that our railways company try to upgrade the Northen Mainline tracks

As of March 2024, Argo Bromo Anggrek got a new 2nd gen "New Generation" Executive coach with automated doors & better suspension though still carry two 1st gen luxury sleeper (New Gen Lux sleeper is still on production at this point) And oh yeah the New Gen Argo Bromo Anggrek Executive coach is hella overprice topping just under 1 million Rupiah (50£) due to it's being the fastest land transportation between Jakarta & Surabaya at only 8 hours scheduled (There is the alternative which is the Jayabaya train that "LITERALLY" use the same New Gen Executive alongside even much cheaper cost but with the exception of bit longer travel time at 10 hours)
