He likes the food better in Bali but at the end of the day the Philippines still wins. I've never actually been there but I heard Bali can get very expensive. A lot of places have gone up in price these days. But maybe it depends on how you spend your money. Maybe if you know your way around, you can live thrifty. I've never actually been to Siquijor. Next time I'm in Cebu, I will definitely take the time to check that island out. I bet they have really good food. I'm thinking of Tilapia with rice. Lumpia, Lechon, Sisig and bitter melon

I have been to Bali and to "mainland" - Java (where Jakarta is). I prefer the mainland. One of the warmest and welcoming people I have come across. Yes, as a westerner I guess they treat you better, but generally, very good people. Certain things are expensive but overall, very affordable.

I’ve mentioned in another vid the lack of legal protections but if you’re a ray of sunshine (as you should be) then no problem. It’s been a long time since I was in Bali but the food is great and the women beautiful and don’t forget loads of Western women as well….something to think about. It’s also been a long time since I was in Cambodia but some beauties there as well.

The Karma 'thing' in Cambodia keeps the peace - people are super friendly and many speak English ! > Love their over 55 retirement visa - can't be beat ? Cost of living is low - especially in Siem Reap - a gem of a retirement destination. = 50 cent beer there many places with good cheap street food available as well as plenty of quite cheap rentals if needed ! While Bangkok is but a cheap 1 hour flight away - for fun - or - very affordable quality medical services if needed. 🤗❤🙏👍🍺

First time I was in Bali 1990 was Invited to a monkey God ceremony in the jungle, the old religion, the highlight they burned a long strip of coco nut shells and a man dressed up as monkey God walked bare foot thru the hot coals. Beer is Bintang is same as Heinican skunk water.

Years ago it was (and I think still is) nearly impossible for a tourist to get to know and to have a good time with a Balinese lady. The women you can go out with were from nearby Java and living more or less permanently in Bali sometimes looking for tourists to supplement their meagre income... If you live in Bali however you should have more chance to get acquainted with a real Balinese if you can prove your respectability I suppose.

I have been all over SE Asia. Most places have the same cost and after a while a similar lifestyle. One advantage of Indonesia is cooler weather with little rain in July and August. Free from UK commitments I would live in the Philippines December to February Japan March to May, Indonesia June to August then back to Japan September to November. Each to their own but I don't like to live some where it always rains. Low cost carrier planes make all this possible.

All those rules that are never adhered to - makes me think that the idea is to make sure everyone falls foul of the law. Means they can get shot of you in nothing flat if you’re a foreigner or imprison you if you are a politically awkward national. Great interview - must say I loved Bali when I was there back in 1999. As the man said, super friendly, wonderful people.

New subscriber, I have a question, it's possibly too niche to be answered on a video,.When in Thailand I like to go to Mauy Thai classes 5 days a week, keeps me outta trouble, is there a big martial arts/combat sports scene in the phillapines do you know? I go to a regular gym too for resistance training but Mauy Thai and MMA class are the only type of cardio I really enjoy, cheers
@SpeakingofAsia8 ай бұрын
Hello mate, welcome to the channel. Based on my very limited experience here, yes there seems to be. I'm sure not to the same extent as Thailand but there is defintely a scene over here. Funnily enough there was a martial arts gym above my first apartment here in Sibulan and it was very busy. Outdoor Karate also seems to be avery big thing in Dumagutete but I'm certain in places like Cebu and Manila you'll find Mauy Thai, MMA etc, in fact I'm sure you will in all the larger cities mate 👍

Visas
@frankkluz97878 ай бұрын
Indonesia offers no advantages for long term living - vacation only perhaps as with many countries. Vietnam is that way mandating visa runs as does Thailand w/o large sums of money deposited in their country ! -- Visa law in Cambodia is awesome for over 55 retired expats. Tourist visa in the Philippines is quite good. -- Depends on one's liking as to where it might be considered "best" ? - - - Personally - I much prefer not to be hot and sweaty - feeling the need of a shower - for much of the time !!! That limits my choices in S E Asia a lot !?! Tagaytay wins for my liking a beautiful scenic & '''comfortable''' area with enough of everything - w/o the chaos of a big city or even a Dumaguete sized city. Yet if needed - Manila and the airport is but an hour or two away. The beach is but an hour removed from the cool mountain breezes @ 2000 ft elevation as well - for easy day trips. - - - Like I said each to his own. We all have our differences and desires ? > Good information video. Job well done ! 🤗 👍 🙏 🍺 👌

Couldn't disagree more. Except about the food because Bali is absolutely fantastic for that both in terms of price and quality, local and international both excellent. But I just found everything about Bali a feast for the eyes, the temples, the houses, the rice terraces. I had amazing pook villa that you'd really struggle to find the same quality of in the Philippines and if you did you'd pay through the nose. I just much much prefer it. I think the only reason guys really end up in that Phillpines if they were honest is the obvious. If you've already got a bird though then why would you want to live there. I don't get it but it course that's what makes the world interesting - we completely disagree.
