While westerners use Gamelan to play traditional compositions, locals use Angklung to play Mozart and Adele. Interesting trend and cross culture exchange.

Pungkasane, dhasar kabeh orkestra gamelan adhedhasar instrumen perkusi, lan bisa uga sawetara suling, iki minangka latar musik kanggo tarian suku Bali, Jawa lan Sundha, nanging ing ndhuwur kabeh crita sing ngubengi kabeh, gerak, katon. lan obahe, musik donya, Asia, Eropa, Amerika, Afrika lan Oseania tansah narik kawigatenku...

Snow Lizard that's a nice way to put it. Music is universal, so anyone can be touched by certain traditional music, and then learn n try to interpret it their own way. It's very natural, and a matter of personal taste. Gamelan itself will still survive, and still be played, by Indonesian or by musician from other countries who love this amazing music instrument.
@sastradana92227 жыл бұрын
but still, a lot of kids plays gamelan in some weird-abstract way, or contemporer. it annoys me to guts. i mean, i bet probably most of them doesnt even know how to play gamelan. its just wrong for me. i believe we need to study classical gamelan piece first, so we knew the true soul of gamelan, the true purpose of why it was designed that way. only then, we can make some good contemporer arrangement. but nowadays, theyre just destroying it.
@lavenheit7 жыл бұрын
Original version is the best, but that's my personal opinion as a half-Javanese, generation Y. And it is probably difficult for the new generation to feel the same way with massive influence from western music and kpop. And nowadays, weird means cool? I don't know. Lol.

Hi Aurel, I am still waiting for another gamelan playing by your group....its amazing to mix Javanese, Sundanese and Balinese gamelan playing ...Thank you so much for your appreciation to traditional music of Indonesia.
