Absolutely gorgeous! I have a question for Dani. How do you keep the water parameters, particularly pH, regulated in the smaller betta containers? I have a 3 gallon beverage container that I’m really struggling with and I think it’s taking it’s toll on my little betta girl. Any advice you have would be great! Thanks so much!
@danidoeslife22903 жыл бұрын
Thank you! To be completely honest, I don't focus on the individual parameters too much - I feel live elements in the tank, like plants, rocks, substrates, etc. Help balance so I like to start with a tank that has a little of everything, but ultimately the ph and other parameters will shift just like in nature. If you find your PH swings too wide, it could be the elements within the tank are not working with your tap water base and shifting it too far. For example, if your ph and hardness is already high, stay away from adding rocks, crushed corals, etc that may leech additional hardness and stick to inert subtrates like sand. If you find your ph too low, certain aquasoils or dying organics like plants can cause it to drop, so a sand cap on the soil and removal of dead foliage will help. But it is really different for everyone. Working with your base water, and regular water changes are my best advice. To keep it softer and low ph for bettas, I add tannins and allow my plants some dead leaves 😊. Best of luck to you! Just know that more is learned from the troubles than the successes, those are mostly lessons learned. Keep at it and keep asking questions!

So what is a good substrate for plants? Like easy beginner plants. Crypts. Micro sword. Amazon leaf sword. My plants are struggling a bit
@danidoeslife22903 жыл бұрын
Easy beginner plants shouldn't be too picky on soil, but swords and crypts are definitely good root feeders, so adding root tabs to just about any soil should help them grow. I find swords need high light, crypts prefering less. And I am a big fan of Eco Complete soil, capped with sand or aquarium gravel.

what is the key to growing pothos in a tank? or should say out of a tank? mine keeps dying off
@danidoeslife22903 жыл бұрын
That's a great question! I have been successful with some and not others. They like wet feet but the leaves will die back sometimes. they do seem to do better if they have something to climb on and wants to root and climb like an anubias.
@naturesfinest24083 жыл бұрын
Also note if you have hard water. You might need to clean the leaves off every so often with rodi/distilled water in a spray bottle and a towel. The leaves start accumulating salts on the leaves, where they secrete it. The salt looks like whitish powder. If this happens in excess it will kill off the plant. I only clean my pathos once to twice a month and they are doing well. I have very hard water, higher cichlid level hard. The rest is just having nutrients and like the comment above wet feet.
