Ini Sam. May I know the small little bye point till flower spike take long how?

We have dry hot weather in the Maldives. My vandas get the mid day intense sun for about an hr. Recently we had a week of rain. One of em which bloomed in November last year has put out a spike just after one month. While the rest which had bloomed months before did not. So I suppose it not only depends on the weather but also the plant itself 🤔

Temperature difference is the critical factor, that makes a Vanda orchid qualified for blooming. And this is how commercial Vanda orchid nurseries are working and harvesting blooms for cut flowers nowadays. The function of triggering flower spikes depends on accumulation of hormones inside the plant. Maybe the duration of the temperature drop was not long enough for some of your Vanda orchids.

How do you make the roots grow to the Mount and the roots are not hanging? Do you cut the roots?

►kzbin.info/www/bejne/naenqqyDqseieKc The roots of 𝙑𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙖 orchids have the same growing habits to 𝙋𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙚𝙣𝙤𝙥𝙨𝙞𝙨. I don't cut any of the roots.

Yikes! The roots of a few of my vandas and phals are deformed, with roots that have a dozen tips and others that have fat split tips - it’s creepy. I think the culprit might be super-thrive. What do you think may be the cause?

Hi Ernestina, I've never seen a roots dividing like this. I guess that it might be a deformation which caused by unnormal hormones. That usually happens when over-using some kind of fertilizers. However, I think this is not harmful to the orchid, on the contrary, it may help the orchid uptake more water and nutrients, due to it has produced more active root caps. However, you still need to adjust the fertilizers, we don't want the deformation happened on the blooms.

@@SamsOrchids Yes, I think I was fertilizing too many times, like 3x a week, but weakly, that included super-thrive, so I cut back to one time a week, weakly. The effect on the blooms have yet to be seen. Hoping they will be massive at least- haha! Thank you for your advice again, it has always helped a lot. 👍

@@TropiChic You don't have to use super-thrive in the fertilizers every time. When to use super-thrive has been clearly related on the front label of the bottle, we usually use this kind of products after repotting or done blooming to reboost the orchid to be active on vegetative growth. Please let me know the N-P-K readings of the fertilizer you are using now, and the suggested dosage and the dosage you are applying.
