Sino-Uganda Mbale Industrial Park, which now hosts 48 factories and employs around 6,000 workers who produce various products such as textiles, electronics, tempered glass, cables, electricity meters, lights, and domestic wares like soaps and washing powder.
However, the park has faced significant challenges, including hardships from the 2019 pandemic, a flood disaster on July 31, 2022, and a fire disaster on December 20, 2022, which collectively caused over $40 million in direct losses.
"Other ongoing challenges include power-related issues, difficulties in obtaining work permits, repeated taxes, and delays in constructing a permanent drainage system as proposed by President Museveni," he added.
