Great review Christine, the top function on the 3rd button on the bottom row is a condensed stitch, it can be used instead of a backtack, it will sew a few stitches in one spot to reduce unraveling. The other function top of button 6, bottom row is your nipper, this is the small grey device your thread goes through above the needle, this pinches the thread when you start, eliminating the tail of thread, and securing it underneath the sewn item.

Hello from North Wales UK . Thank you for taking time to show us about this machine, I have had one for almost a year and love it, after my ancient industrial died and I tried a few domestic machines. I have been trying to get information on this machine but they are patchy so you are my go to lady! I’m too scared to press any buttons but more confident after your tutorial, and the noise drives me mad but I’m learning to block it out, I have tried putting sponge under the treadle and everywhere it’s metal to metal , so you have educated me that it’s a manufacturer blunder. Brenda, I sond the A4E and also have the A5E. It's still got a noisy solenoid, but you don't notice it after a while. I'm told there is another one that has a stepping motor which is much quieter😁

@@ChristinesHomeAffairs Christine, you are correct in that is an electromagnet turning on and off that makes the clunk sound. The new A4F uses a stepper motor to raise the presser foot and reverse sewing which is much quieter, significantly more quiet.

Interesting and useful review… I’m thinking of getting one of these… interesting upgrade on latest version A4F is a servo driven presser foot, you can electronically set the height and it’s much quieter than the solenoid … looks like excellent value machine

yes Gregory. The A4E and A5E both have the noisy solenoid. I use the A5 all day at the shop. It's not really a problem, and you forget it even makes the noise most of the time😀

Ann, the coverstitch arrived last week, and I will be doing a review and tutorial on it. Mostly so I have something to refer to when I forget what to do. It does have a thread trimmer. It's amazing, and a very quiet machine too🙂

Ahh, I didn't even consider the firmware. That makes sense. In Summer, I use the USB port to plug in a small fan and mount it on the pole of machine. It would be great for another light too😀

They are quite affordable compared to many industrial machines I have seen. It seems to fulfil all your requirements. I must admit that clunk would do my head in though 😆 Very interesting video, I do like to stickybeak in people's sewing rooms. 😉

Christine, I am so glad for this review.I'm in the market for an industrial so I saw this at the opportune moment. One question though, why didn't you go for a walking foot machine?

Thanks Patricia. When I purchased my machines, I didn't have bag making in mind (other than my shopping totes). I do dressmaking and alterations, so this was the best choice for me. I think I'll be doing a review on a walking foot machine soon, and really hope that I'm not tempted to purchase it. I have too many machines already😁

I love the Jack machine you featured today. I wanted to ask you about it because it looked so cool. Also I’m glad to find out you too feel the need to have more than one single needle to work with. Between the house and the sewing room I wanted another one and my husband made fun of me. It gets pretty cold sometimes and I do like the new ones better than the old ones for sure. That said I was making a joke about the ‘electronics’ on my old ancient single needle. Magnets sure don’t effect that. My new used single needle is a Gemsy a knockoff of the Juki. It has features I have explored and never used. So maybe I should sell the ancient Union special with forward only and buy me a new one. Keeping in mind I still need to be on good terms with the real bread winner. Thank you, you are such an inspiration for me.

Hello can you make tulle ruffles on this machine? My old industrial used too before it died by adjusting the needle length and width, basically make a tight stitch too gather the fabric really fast. Wanted too know this prior to purchasing please???

This machine doesn't do zig zag Lekevia, but the stitch length is certainly adjustable😀

There is no stitch width on this machine. It only goes straight. I keep an old machine in case I need zig zag, but in three years, I've only needed it twice😀

After one of my Kenmore sewing machines acted up, by not stopping when I removed my foot from the peddle (while quilting), I have become very scared of the more modern machines. The only way to stop that machine from sewing full speed (out of control) was to unplug it. I have not sewed on that machine ever since this happened.

That can be very scary Arvetta. I have a pedal that moves on my concrete floor at the shop and gets stuck under furniture causing it to keep sewing all the time. Most annoying..... There may be a wiring problem with your foot controller. Do you know someone that can check it out?

That is a very common issue, a capacitor has blown in your foot control or motor, remove it and all is good.

Very nice review! But I have some walking foot machine in lack of space. It looks a same table to me. Can I switch juki and jack a4 back and forth? Does that jack have any external computers or anything else?

Leonid, there are no externals on the Jack except for the foot lever, but then the others all have that too. I don't know if they are interchangeable. You'd need the dimensions of both machines, but I expect they'd be the same😀

Allessio, I use DB x 1 needles in several different sizes. They're readily available from sewing machine suppliers that sell industrial machines, Ebay, and Amazon😀

None at all unless I have the wrong needle for the job, or it's blunt. When sewing vinyl, I use a teflon or vinyl foot to avoid dragging🙂

Hi Marc-Aaron. I also have an A5E in my shop. I have an alterations service. I sew trousers, jeans, cotton, light weight blouses, vinyl bags, upholstery bags, and whilst waiting on my new coverstitch, I also did hems on tshirts. 😁

I have the A5E. It's definitely not quieter. I believe it has the same type solenoid as the A4E.. I've heard the A6 is quieter

Automatic Industrials machines are noisy. Nothing can't be done about it. But I love sewing.

Not the case with the latest machines, they utilise stepping motors for foot lift, backtack /reverse, and presser lift, they are incredibly quiet.
