Industrial steam at NCB Derwenthaugh

8mm cine film shot by me at NCB Derwenthaugh on the south bank of the river Tyne in 1968.
This complex had it's origins dating back to the early 1800s and for a period was owned by the Consett Iron Company.
The loco featured in the video is No 41 which was built by Kitsons of Leeds for them in 1883 and is employed as a spare engine for yard duties.
The video has an authentic soundtrack recorded during filming

The view was so much better when the CO2 was lower, the vegetation did not encroach and block the view like these days. Great video, thank you

Yes there is some work required to edit and add the soundtrack. All of the collieries and the railways which served them have been swept away and little remains to show they were ever there! Only photographs and film to remind us. Thank you for your comments.

The engine shed and yards were situated on the South bank of the Tyne about half a mile downstream from Blaydon station where the river Derwent joins the Tyne. There were also staithes for loading coal into ships. Not sure what is there now. Hope this helps.
