Goddamn man, I actually hadn't heard this track till just now. I broke down hearing Em like this. I'm honestly a bit speechless right now. Just...the amount of pain you can hear in his voice got to me. Music and fame has brought him so much, but it's also stolen away his freedom and privacy. I believe I heard someone say something similar to this before, but when you feel like you've done everything, it feels like you can't do anything. He talks about having this big house, and all this money, and fame, but that shit doesn't really mean anything. It's still lonely when you're at the top, and I'm picturing this is what Em is like when he's lying in bed stuck in his head at night. This album came out awhile ago now, and hopefully he's moved past these old demons at this point, but there's a chance that's not the case. Isolation is a dangerous place to be in. It really messes with your head and sense of self. I just hope that Marshall's doing alright now. It seems like it, but who truly knows what goes on behind closed doors.

I haven't watched this reaction yet. But this has always been one of my favorite songs. I listen to it before but never really took the time to appreciate it. This whole album in general has some of my favorite songs on it. And the South Paw music soundtrack is fire as well. I'm sure you've got a million reactions to do. But if you're looking for an extremely bar heavy song. Bad meets Evil all I think about in my opinion is probably one of the most heavy songs. The "So called hip hop heads" Who try & ish on Em, don't know tracks like this, which are what real hip hop heads...( especially old heads like me, 46, who got cats like Cube, Scarface & Nas in my fave 5) appreciate the most bout em. Non hip hop heads trend towards the popular radio Tracks to make fun of Em. Cliff...now I know for sure u a writer....as if I didnt....but what u said during verse 1....I would write left to right....in sequence....and maybe my 1st 4 would be at the bottom of the page and my last 4 would be at the top....then in booth punch to get where i was trying to go......THEN.....my wife bought me an EM book for Xmas one yr that had the last 25 pages like all xeroxed copies of his rhymes....some I knew like the DJ CLUE.....What the beat say do......but it completely changed how I wrote.....I mean completely.....im talking he has napkins and little post-its from hotels where he may have only thought of a 4 bar....but they're all over the page....I wish I could share pictures.....cuz it made me realize that the lines don't control me....my brain does...as long as I can keep up with my rhyme, then it doesn't matter how u write it....also...huge on knowing the verse exactly how u want it to be or at least having it memorized when stepping into record....u save a ton of tyme....if ur reading off paper....it sounds like ur reading....take paper away and now u can use your emotion to lay your point across....ill look for book title and comment it.....but I made my best Indie album after seeing that book....can honestly say I didn't read the whole book......but seeing how he writes...well it changed my writing life......bless.....the hard cover is a giant red covered book FYI

In the third verse, there are some sublte complex patterns taking place. Even though the phrases don't exactly rhyme, he delivers it in such a way that they do, and the way he "punches in" the emphasis on those phrases to create interesting syncopated rhythms is playful as fuck. Take note of the phrases: Times when, rhymes of, Ice wh-, I was, mics I'll, like I, I was, dime and, diamond, dive in, I've been, hibern-, -side it, I just, I don't, -round inside it, how excited, sound when I get, bout life and, about it I miss, now reminds me, thousand lighters, sky for, outsidaz, wow I must, alzheimer's, time since, time cause, vouched I will, how you guys ac-, I've been, time when, -house rhymin's, life has, out inside I'll, outsider, inside out but I-. This is simply next level. To be able to play with words like this, and still paint such a vivid image simultaneously, all whilst going into deep personal issues.. consistently, throughout a 20+ year career is just bananas.
