I can't always relate on a personal level to certain issues, but Tom has a way of putting me in other people's shoes. I've never battled addictions, but when I listen to Sober I feel like I'M the one who overcame. It's incredible how he draws me in. He's such an artist. Another Tom song I absolutely love. I am always weirded out by musicians romanticizing mental illness and meds as party drugs. Most people who have to take meds hate it. I personally hate how they make me feel. It comes up often in support groups, the side effects, trying to find that balance between meds and lifestyle, struggling when you no longer feel like yourself etc. I try to always be available when someone needs to talk. You never know how helpful it is to others when you are just open and honest about your own issues.

I just quickly wanted to comment on something that you mentioned, because I haven't heard any other reactor comment on it. He's dances sometimes get me too! But in a different way. You might find them hilarious, but I find them attractive as hell. What you called ”those awkward dances” are one of my favourite parts of his videos. When I wanted to share my latest artist find on social media I wrote: ”I enjoy Tom's voice and beats and flow, but the videos by his girlfriend Nova Rockafeller are a treat for me too. Firstly, it's always nice to see guys dancing. Secondly,....” And the I rambled on and on about how I love the way he moves and performs and looks like. Haha. I'm clumsy as fuck and never learned to dance even when I took lessons, but guess what? Fuck it! I still do my little dances when I really feel the music. Dude, I was fearless when I was a teenager and even in my early to mid-20s. I don't know exactly what happened, but it's likely due to years of drinking regularly and not taking care of myself. I started getting highly depressed a few years ago. Within the last 6 months or so I've become incredibly anxious. I know I have certain health issues I need to have addressed but I have no insurance and am barely making ends meet as it is, so I'm forced to just brush it under the rug. I swear, if I find anything new on my body I will start panicking like I just KNOW I'm going to die. I don't even know why I fear death all of a sudden. I never use to. I guess now that I'm about to be 31, I've gotten way overweight from beer drinking, I have very high blood pressure, along with low thyroid function, death is seeming to be more real so now the idea of it is really getting to me. I'm tired all of the time but can never get a full night's sleep. I'm always cranky and feel super sluggish. Everything combined, and I have a very toxic mindset with the physical issues along with the anxiety and depression. And I can't do anything about it at the moment. I get moments of clarity and feel inspired to do something to change things but it seems like I wake up the next day and feel the opposite again. Damn it. Mental illness sucks ass.

I've read the studies on music and it makes me wonder about myself. Sad songs don't make me sad, they make me reminiscent and motivated to make my future better. That aggressive rap I love doesn't make me angry or aggressive, it actually lowers my aggression and reduces my anger. Oddly happy music doesn't make me happy, it makes me feel high.
