I always check that the balloon is not faulty by filling it and checking for any leaks before I move forward with the catheterization process. I don't want to have to repeat the entire process before my shift ends because the catheter balloon had a leak, deflated and catheter backs out. It doesn't happen often but it happens.

Just curious, why is there no numbing gel like the males?
@LevelUpRN2 жыл бұрын
Numbing gel can be used on any patient but it is more commonly used on males. I'd imagine that's due to the accessibility of the urethra.
@rameshvarma1696 Жыл бұрын
In male Anasthetic gell is using , why because the male urethral spece is very marrow and anasthetic gell is inhibits pain and friction of the male urethal part.
@cheristina Жыл бұрын
You also have to realize that every extra act imposes a risk for contamination. So if there's not enough benefit from using numbing gel, it's probably better to leave it behind.

ER Nurse here - when you take the test, this is the answer. But 99.9% of being a new nurse is realizing that the reality of doing the job is different. Trendelenberg position is honestly the only way to insert a catheter, on a real person the site is impossible to visualize almost 100% of the time. It’s not your fault you can’t find it, they just teach you this way because they have to.

@@billysprague6219 i’m going to correct you in hopes to open your mind a bit with real scientific information. biological SEX has everything to do with the genitalia and chromosomes of a person and helps identify male vs female sex. GENDER however is not a solely biological concept. This explains how a man/woman/non-binary individual may be born intersex and have both female and male reproductive parts…but only identify as one or the other. or neither at all. gender is such a big and complex concept and how others feel in their own skin has nothing to do with you or with science. not trying to be rude, but if you are going to leave comments like this please understand the terminology you are using to back up just being a hateful person :)
