There is always one... Indy is worldwide famous sorry to annoy you but ask any non motorsport fan to name tracks and yeah Monaco, Le Mans, Spa, Nurburgring, Monza and Silverstone (especially here in the UK) would come up, but so does Indianapolis. If you think Indy is just about turning left, then sorry you are grossly misinformed.
@ADubiousLilCreature
@ADubiousLilCreature Жыл бұрын
Its understandable to think that about oval racing but its a little more technical than that, especially at indy. Even though the turns are all identical, they all have to be set up for differently. If you watched qualifying you can even see the drivers doing multiple in car changes throughout a qualifying run. Rossi did a decent video with insider explaining a little bit of the difficulties of the 500 not too long ago. Theres a good amount of big names from different disciplines that attempted the 500 and never won (Jackie Stewart, Dan Gurney, Jimmy Johnson, etc.). Along with some of them never even making it into the race ( Juan Manuel Fangio, Hurley Haywood, Fernando Alonso, etc.) . Also, if you ever get the chance to come to the 500 in person, do it. The atmosphere is completely different then what it seems on TV and is an amazing experience.
@CaseyCollier
@CaseyCollier Жыл бұрын
In terms of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway being "the most famous racecourse in the world," I'd say that that's somewhat up for debate. It really depends on what these announcers mean by "famous." Using the dictionary definition of the word, it simply means "known about by many people." However, many people use the word to mean different things. I'm not saying that it's correct to do so, but it does happen fairly regularly. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I'd say that they're probably referring to the track's historical significance and pedigree more than the number of people who know of the track. In that sort of sense, Indianapolis is almost certainly number one. Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the oldest and longest running track on any motorsport calendar. The Indianapolis 500 is also the oldest and longest running race on any major motorsport calendar, so in that sense, it is the most historic race out of any other. Le Mans is also extremely historic and prestigious, but I'd say it falls second behind the Indy 500 (and this is coming from someone who loves the 24 hours of Le Mans and watches it every year). In terms of single race viewership, F1 is more popular, but I'd consider that to be a faulty metric when talking about the fame of a race or track. The 24 hours of Le Mans gets less concurrent viewership than any single F1 race, and I'd argue that that's a more famous race. The Monaco Grand Prix is pretty famous too, but I don't think it tops Le Mans. I also don't believe it tops the Indy 500, but there are certainly solid points on both sides of the argument for that one.
