Indycar has been horrendous when it comes to marketing. They sit idle and do nothing instead if trying to improve their brand. I agree, losing Honda would be catastrophic

Simple - Do what F1 wont. Bring back N/A V8 15k RPMs and if possible, carbon nuertal fuels to keep Honda Happy. Cheap nonhybrid engines & can satisfy Carbon emissions... MOST IMORTANTLY, Fan will love the sound.

I would largely scrap the technical regulations as is, you can run any engine provided it has 6 or more cylinders is subject to a 110 litre per or equivalent for anything that isn't ethanol. Battery packs would be restricted to 18kwh, with no limit on current and may drive front or rear wheels. From there various technologies would be scheduled for teams that wish to obey a cost cap, such as active aero but not including driver aids. Make indy car F1 except you can put into action any technology you want, hybrids, v8, v10 you name it.

IndyCar won’t die in the immediate future because Roger Penske is so freaking rich, but it’ll be so irrelevant compared to F1 and NASCAR that when Penske passed away (he’s getting pretty old) his family might sell it off and then it might die only a few years later. Innovation, more races, and having races in markets that demand it are key to the long term future of IndyCar. The costs wouldn’t worry Honda so much if there was a great return on investment. F1 coats a ton to field cars but it’s so lucrative it’s a worthy return on investment for an engine manufacturer. IndyCar is not with lower purses compared to F1 and NASCAR and fewer races also means less chances to win money. Also means less money going to Honda from the race teams. IndyCar’s stagnation is exactly why the return on investment isn’t worth it for Honda right now. So yes let’s add a few more races, get Texas back, move Detroit to 2 weeks after the 500 so the Milwaukee Mile gets its traditional date back and let’s get a thriving sport

I wanna see indycar give the northeast another go. Was new hampshire really that bad or did race control get stuck with rain? I think theres a market for the northeast nyc/lime rock skip barber folks to be interested in indycar

It is about time we need competition from engine manufacturers. Ford, Mercedes, Alfa-Romeo, etc. can be competitive, but this will not happen anytime soon. IndyCar will not go bankrupt!!!

I think you may be on to something with the shared powertrain with IMSA/WEC. I would also task Dallara with developing a new chassis based on the shared F2 / Superformula chassis. This would need to be modified for ovals of course but the basic chassis design has proven very versatile and is state of the art. Indycar needs to bill itself as the top spec formula series and the top professional (non developmental) formula after F1. Somewhat like Super Bike vs Moto GP. Modernizing the equipment will also allow indy drivers to race with near F1 levels of performance and technology attracting more interest as a true alternative series to GP racing (just like back in the 90's hey day of the series).

The schedule sucks outside of Indianapolis what real ovals are there they're all 1 me or smaller. Where is Michigan Texas Pocono Vegas. Bring back the triple crown

I think that could work. Like I said, GM could use Cadillac IMSA engines. Having one engine for both series would go a long way for IndyCar.

They need to innovate somehow, but that’s the problem. They’re so set in their ways and there’s a huge of identity in IndyCar. Is it like NASCAR? Is it like F1? How would you describe IndyCar to someone who has never watched if?

It needs an identity. It goes back to the CART/IRL split. IndyCar racing was born on ovals but economically road racing makes more sense in terms of cost and higher attendance.

The IMSA comment doesn't make sense given GTP operations cost OEMs more then IndyCar and get significantly less eyeballs,it seems to be a veiled comment about the lack of road relevancy in the engines since that's the reason GTP isn't lacking for suppliers.

Clearly OEMs are happy with the ROI of IMSA, Honda/Acura included, so they must see something they’re not getting out of IndyCar on that front. Hence why I think a common engine could be a possible solution.

4 months later, and there's a cheating scandal.Involving a chevrolet team who is owned by the person who happens towner series as well. Honda most certainly is not happy about that

Turbo v8s!!!! And I don't want to hear it will never happen. Why? Cadillac IMSA? I don't care about the, that's not road car relevant. Could care less as a fan. I want screaming racecars at a event I am going to pay money to be at. Current engines are not appealing to me as a fan, and haven't been to a race since indycar last ran v8s.
