The story was inspired by Uncanny X-Men #153, titled Kitty's Fairy Tale, where, Kitty Pryde (Shadowcat) told a fairy tale to Illyana Rasputin (Magik) about the pirates Captain Kitty and Colossus.

True although the comic still superior due to details that help to make it so enjoyable: Not only the plot is simply Kitty telling a bed story for Illyana (a much better scenario than being stuck in a cave) but the story itself is basically a fantasy version of "Dark Phoenix Saga", with happy ending, which leads thto a very touching moment between Kitty and the X-men, seeing her story as tribute to them and Jean (who at time was dead).

Batman Beyond - OnceBurned. Yes I am in fact suggesting this one over the egg and robot girlfriend episodes. Because in this one Terry straight up cheats on Dana and gets away with it. Its a massive WTF moment that doesn't get called out as much as it should. Sonic the Hedgehog - the Odd Couple/Ro-becca.

You gotta love that somehow people use beepers in a world where there's multiple companies that create advanced tech, energy weapons are so common that civilians use them, and the government has an army of 50 tall robots. I'm not expecting the writers to predict stuff like smartphones, but they could've been creative and given Jubilee a wrist communicator

There were cell phones in 1996 (not smartphones, but cell phones that could just make and receive calls). They would have been very expensive, so only rich people would have had them, but considering the more advanced technology in the show it would have been believeable that people at the Xavier School could have had them.

I was watching this episode and was wondering why the animation took a nosedive. I recently watched 'Hidden Agendas' which had Rogue going undercover but what was really dumb is that she didn't wear any gloves. Did the animators forget what her mutant power was?? They even had her touch Gambit's face with no effect.

My friends and I have weekly watch parties where we watch various animated series, anime, and movies, "X-Men TAS" and "Spider-Man TAS" are on the list. I was contemplating whether we should skip this episode, "InepTToons" video helped me with my decision. "Jubilee's Fairytale Theater" isn't worth it, thanks Erod.

People really hated Jubilee’s guts. Which is a shame, since I actually liked her. But over time, I started to like Rogue and Gambit more.

5:05 Oh, yeah. Beepers/Pagers. I remember seeing one in the videogame The Darkness, based on the Top Cow comics character, where the titular hero received messages and plot relevant info on one. I cannot believe they actually thought that was a good idea. Anyway, in terms of InepTToons, I'd highly recommend the The Transformers episode "Carnage in C-minor". You think Bayformers is bad, E? Wait until you get a load of the franchise prior to that point because it had its moments of shite. EDIT: And I didn't know that Jubilee is voiced by Resident Evil 2 co-star Alyson Court in this show... Oh, well. The more you know.

Episode suggestion: -Many people want to say the entire Goliath Chronicles was the worst of Gargoyles, but I personally didn't hate them. MY pick for worst episode is Vendettas, the one where they fight Hakon possessing an axe while this pathetic loser is chasing after them trying to hit them with a pie cannon JUST because his bike got destroyed.

Honestly, the episode didn't seem that bad, but I haven't watched much of the original series, so I don't know the full extent of how Jubilee is portrayed in this series. So based on just my impression here, the basic concept of the episode doesn't seem that bad. A silly standalone fantasy adventure with Jubilee telling a story about herself doesn't sound that bad. But from where I'm standing, the biggest problem appears to be that, 1, it seems like you're supposed to take the story seriously, and in that case, the episode doesn't do a good job at making Jubilee come off as particularly compelling, and 2, they don't go all out for it. Compare this to that episode of What If where we get to see medieval fantasy versions of a ton of different Marvel characters. It would've been better if we were meant to be laughing at the ridiculousness of Jubilee's story, and we saw more characters. Although, with the latter, given the season's apparently low budget, I can see why they didn't do that.

I feel he should put those old honest reviews on patreon. If he's worried about copyright you could use the patreon player that doesn't have those issues. That's what Suede did with his old and new Pokemon episode reviews that wouldn't go on the service. As yeah that'd be a great incentive for old and new fans to do patreon plus it'd be easier then like making new content right?

@@RetroReviews27 We're talking about the older honest reviews done BEFORE like 2017. You know the ones on the 90's X-Men animated series (where Erod gave his thoughts on the time of X-Men Evolution and Wolverine and the X-Men which weren't as positive as the later hoenst reviews were on them) or like the original X-Men movie that aren't available anywhere. Again wish he'd update those on patreon for fans.

Okay admittedly I'm not a huge fan of the original X-Men animated series. Yes I was a kid when it was on and certainly knew of it but I think I was oddly enough a bit too young to get into this show due to it's heavy story arc continuity as it felt like any time I would try I was like 5 steps behind and getting into shows arc back then was a lot harder then it is now. I did catch enough of the original to hard core get into 97 and love it but I didn't watch "Jubilee's Fairytale Theater" or know anything about it. I was curious though why it was considered such a bad episode though. Yeah I know Jubilee in the original series had a lot of detractors and yeah the 5th season generally isn't held up but it still seemed like sort of a cute harmless idea. Yeah kind of stupid but felt like a one off "eh could be funny seeing the other X-Men as these fantasy characters" so before checking out this InepTToons video watched the episode on Disney Plus and yeah once Jubilee introduced herself as the hero main character "cause this is my story" I got the hatedom this one had though I feel potentially this COULD have worked. The thing is Jubilee's fantasy story about these two crystals and casting herself as the main hero who is awesome and makes Gambit look pathetic and has "Logan" as a pet and easily is able to trick Magus with bull crap ex machina is the kind of self indulgent fantasy fan fiction nonsense you do write as a teen. Like when I was in middle school even through High School I would write this exact kind of crap about my uberly loved over powered OC steam rolling everything and being so cool and just coming up with nonsense bit after nonsense bit for the sake of a story. So I totally get "Miss Lee" (like the kids called her that at least a dozen times in this episode it gets pretty old) doing the same thing and heck I do even get the idea this would be something kids would be into because they wouldn't get the nuance. The problem is A. This sort of idea doesn't fit a show like X-Men. Something like Doug this makes sense to have episodes on because Doug imagining himself as his alternate personas solving stories is part of the whole appeal of the show. This isn't what X-Men is about though as it's about putting these characters in these out there scenarios and you know testing them AS characters. I wasn't the biggest fan of "Motendo" and felt it could have gotten video game culture better but watching this episode it's clear Jubilee did really need to know the lesson of "stop acting like your world is this fantasy where you're the main star who can just skate by on appeal and deal with the real" and that episode was actually about her GROWING as a character. You know realizing seeing things as so obviously black and white and wanting to just blame Magneto as this one noted bad guy she can ignore and beat up ISN'T a healthy attitude. This one though was about "wow look at how awesome Jubilee is making this story and destressing the kids isn't she cool especially how she outsmarted Magneto with uh nonsense that one note bad guy" when yeah that isn't really the case especially since... B. Super high ego characters who tell these sort of narration with them as the hero shouldn't be told simply from THEIR perspective. This is a story that needed either one of the kids or someone else to keep popping in and pointing out either how stupid this whole scenario is or how ridiculous Jubilee is. Or to in a sense have something that proves her wrong and having to contradict such elements since yeah these sort of things are fine maybe as quicker fantasies but for the entire length of the episode and her just being this awesome hero throughout feels wrong. Like maybe even if the end was her running off hearing Gambit and Logan angry at their variants in her story or something but no her just jumping around like a fool yeah that's... that's pretty lame. I do really like a lot of Erod's points here. Like when I was watching this I went "wait why doesn't she blow up the rock is she afraid of the kids knowing she's a mutant" but she like uses her powers later so that can't be the case. And yeah questioning why of all people Gambit and Wolverine were going with Xavier to see the president or where Storm, Rouge and Beast were in her story or the Chuck Norris jokes to point out how big Jubilee's ego though. Think my favorite bit though had to be pointing out how disturbing it is Jubilee's character is crushed on by Gambit which yeah even if this is her fantasy story why are you telling this to children exactly? Like they know it's YOU in the story why are you trying to imply such weird things? So yeah good ep mocking this and... I get the hatred and it is stupid but you know I kind of do appreciate even if done badly an episode showing a character totally self indulgent themselves in a story. There are better examples out there but this one feels done without the irony which kind of makes it amusingly in a different way. Next up though we have a show I DID grow up on and am glad to see Erod tear up. Heh hope you especially make a point about Carl Lumbly's infamous lame "noooooooooooooooooooooo" in the middle. Like yeah Cathrine Disher's weird Jean Grey laugh is odd but at least that was a fantasy version of her regular character. What's with this take from the actual Martian Manhunter?

I personally feel that the other episodes of season 5 are all on par with the rest of the show, except for this one. It is hands down the worst episode of the entire series and you covered every reason why. I often found myself preferring the various 90s animated adaptions of comic stories, but this is one time where the comic version isn't just better it's superior.

I actually kinda like this episode! It's just pleasant filler, turn your brain off and enjoy the silly fairy tale romp kinda show. I guess it helps that 12 yr old me had a huge crush on Jubilee too...

Good you brought up Jubilee narcissim in the story. It just represent the character biggest problem in the show: She never grows up. I get the idea behind her is to replace Kitty Pryde as the youngest X-men, the inexperient surrogate character who grows into a hero, but, up until 97, the series never moves Jubilee from that stage. Most of her episodes are about her complaning that people treat her like kid and wanting to prove herself and she doesn't learn from the experiences. This episode could have been better if 1) It had come out in season 1 or 2, when Magneto was still seen as villain and Jubille perspective on the the X-men wasn't so established yet. 2) Instead of ego trip, the episode should be about Jubile facing her own flaws. Her story could start with her being this mary sue, but then the kids start to interrup her story, point out her ego and she's not letting other X-men have their moments, and in respose Jubilee add more of their likable aspects, making Jubilee not realize that the X-men, while can overprotective sometimes, in the end they truly care for her and were tryign to warn Jubilee about her own flaws: She wanted so badly to prove herself as capable x-men and earn the group respect she forgot that the key to achive isn't to be most powerful and perfect, it's about being humble, decent and, most important, capable of accepting help from others and work with the team. That's what means to be part of the X-men. By the end, Jubille finish her story by having her character saving the day with the help of her allies. Then, when she and kids are rescue by the X-men, they all apologize: Jubille finally becomes more humble and work together with the team while the X-men recognize they have been to much overprotective and accept Jubille's growth.

Two episodes come to mind: “Everyone Knows It’s Bendy” from Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends and “Arnold Betrays Iggy” from Hey Arnold! Not just from a reputation standpoint, but I genuinely can’t watch those episodes. They are infuriating to watch. I watched “I’ve Got Batman in my Basement” and found it weird, but not intolerable. Those two episodes I mentioned, can’t stand them.
