Just a word of warning: someone in my neighborhood has a Hack RF type device. It captures your transmit signal with PL/DCS code and then they are able to simply push a button and retransmit your identical signal into the repeater. They are able to store the parameters of your transmission and thereby access your repeater again and again. Someone nearby enough to capture my HT signal was messing with my simplex repeater here where I live. Just so you know. People are and will be malicious, simply out of boredom, or simply to be malicious. Thanks for the video think I will order one of these I have several of another brand attached to 40 watt UHF & 50 watt VHF mobile radios. Seems to work well. Same thing 30 feet of antenna height. Thank you. 73’.

When radio shack was imploding, I got a discone antenna from them for a big discount. I really don't know much about HAM. What is a discone antenna good for?

Hello love your videos I live in Vegas. May I ask your opinion about that simplex peter and the many Chinese simplex peters on eBay and or the duplex versions. I’m just wondering if it does anything different than the standard ones that are already available

Do you need an amp? Looking for emergency communication within a 15 mile wide area roughly.??
@chrissewell16086 ай бұрын
There are problems with simplex repeaters, with HT's. 1) Battery power. (You seem to have accounted for that one, w/ a 12VDC LifePo battery. 👍) A person can calculate power consumption of all electronics, vs. Battery life, and then factor in average in your TX consumption... 🥺 2) Small Antenna and power. This is easy enough to overcome w/ an external antenna! (And you have a small amp! 👍) Every Ham Operator knows how to manipulate those features for maximum effieciency! 3) Duty cycle and heat build up. This is the killer, and why commercial repeaters are built so heavy duty! Most people don't realize, their radio(s) are constantly ON and active. This can build up enough internal heat to fry the electronics on small radios &/ batteries! And to much use, can drain the battery. 4) Waterproof container. You want something small enough to carry &/or hang up high, and possibly conceal from thieves / vandals. Yet large enough for all you stuff, with room for air flow, and some sort of ventilation! ... 🥴 Mind blowing 🤯 all the sudden crap, that can go into a Simple, fun project! My suggestion is the KISS method. Then go from there, if needed! I am looking forward to what you come up with!

I have one! Works as advertised. It's a good idea to have one for property security. You have one of these with a larger attenna and a 10 watt radio in the center of your property and it helps those in your group with "lesser" comms.

Does it only record 10 seconds of voice per transmission or is that adjustable and if so what is the max?
@timbookedtwo23756 ай бұрын
An HT with crossband capability is an alternative. I have a wouxun HT that is crossband capable. put it in a waterproof box with a battery, solar charge controller and outside a small solar panel and you'r good to go.

Little hint-if using ctcss or dcs and want single frequency simplex only,but want semi duplex without tx shifting offset,use split ctcss or dcs lot of the new CB and LMR radios fm+ctcss support split ctcss or dcs sub tones ch base 1 tone 1 tx ch base 1 tone 2 rx ch mobile\HT 1 tone 2 tx ch mobile\HT 1 tone 1 rx now you have semi duplex split shift sub tones on a simplex frequency! stops ring around too on close by hts or mobiles,than just using single tx x sub tones. looks great product 👍

I see that as an asset on a simplex repeater. Last thing you want is some longwinded blow hard on that type of repeater.

While Simplex repeaters are nothing new, this one is small, compact, simple and affordable. (I have an accessory chip, I installed into an older Yaesu mobile unit, that allows that radio into an simplex repeater mode. Its just a pain to use!)
