can we talk about how to decline a drug test at the hospital?? Risks vs. benefits? My part of NJ aggressively investigates birthing patients who take legally prescribed CDSs during pregnancy. Family policing is tantamount to state sanctioned obstetric violence. I am a recent law school grad, and I was harassed by DCPP because of a positive urinalysis (for a prescribed med) with my first. The caseworker came onto L&D with no ID. I brought this to the hospital’s attention as a safety issue. I know the laws and the loopholes are limited. With my second, I told the hospital that the only way anyone from the state would be allowed come to my room was with a judicial order to show cause.

My wifes doctor is telling her to eat full fat full sugar ice cream and peanut butter as a night snack for her GD. Is this correct?

Thanks for asking! No full sugar ice cream is not safe for gestational diabetes. However, we sometimes use sugar free peanut butter because its a good source of protein. Ask your healthcare provider for a consultation with a nutritionist that specializes in gestational diabetes. They will provide the best counsel. Feel better.
