How does he manage to make his movements seem so... janky yet smooth, like he's in one position and then all of a sudden its like he moved at 200-400% speed for a millisecond to end up in a sudden new position, and it's extremely pleasing to me even though normally it wouldn't be? Serious props to this guy, he's amazing with his editing and various other things which contribute to his videos.

He mentioned he was using Posterize Time in Premiere but there's also obviously shitload of AE work done. You can speedramp pretty easily, the impressive part is how he plans his shots and knows what to accentuate in post to make it look animated. And on top of that the lighting, color correction, backgrounds, transitions, sound design etc. is all extremely well done. Man's a beast.

The effect is created by speeding up the frames where he actually moves a lot, and then running the ones where he moves very little. Also, he moves as little as possible outside certain points - when he DOES move, it's in a full-body movement. Basically no "medium" amount of movement, it's either full or almost none. Juxtaposition.

This. Like yeah it's also lots of editing work afterwards, but the sheer forethought into planning the movements needed. He is setting up fantastic animated key frames with his own body. The understanding of silhouettes and composition you need to contort your own body for these clear reads. It is disturbing and pleasing all at the same time

He speeds up the footage. He lip syncs during acting. Some cases he may increase speed during certain segments. This is in an attempt to make the motion appear much more smooth, like animated rubbermation. That sort of animation where characters have no defined joints so they bend as they please. What speeding up does is give James enough time to slowly do the take for it to be relatively clean. Then he speeds up the footage making small inconsistencies virtually undetectable. It's done in action scenes and during digital dance performances. A small inconsistency of a fraction of a second is sped up until it's undetectable

Experience tells me that with this kind of dark, brooding, larger-than-life modern preaching style, it's only good in small bites. A feature length movie in this style would simply get really boring and redundant, and feel full of itself on the 10 minute mark. So yeah, better stick to short youtube videos anyway, even if the feature length movie in this style wouldn't be a budget black hole.

There is a beautiful darkness and uniqueness to it that would be amazing for a horror film since many horror films stay within the same aesthetic of dark creepy house or something along those lines, it's a change of pace and would be super intresting in terms of world building, I've always wanted to see an animated horror movie and this choppy almost stop motion feeling, gives me that satisfaction in a way. As a movie I agree it wouldn't fit but if given enough thought I think a full length movie would be pretty damn phenomenal
