Neat live playing. I know most answers to the usual question would suggest a specific hardware/software audio tool, but I think it should be possible to get close with a vocoder, bitcrusher, and possibly a (granular?) comb filter combo. It'd still take a good bit of experimentation to get the chain order and mixdown and automation just right though.

There is no vocoder or bitcrush effects used here. He uses the real-time polyphonic pitch shifting "Manipulator", and the granular note freezer plugin "I Wish".

Its not the DAW but how you utilise the tools and plug-ins. I would suggest looking up interviews they have to find these out.

IM is all about pitch manipulation, they have plugins they specifically designed to do what they love to do in their songs. Also it's about track arrangement, it may sound impressive but isolated sounds don't sound that impressive

I wouldn't try to create music like IM. Nobody can. You can create the music that comes out of you, and that's how you write good music. But if you want to recreate the sounds, any DAW will work. The sorts of crazy sounds all depend on your plugins and how you chain them and control them (like chaining effect pedals for your guitar), but Polyverse makes IM specific plugins for sounds like their voice manipulation and note based repeater (and their reverb and other volume envelope thing are also amazing). IM does use a lot of other techniques to get synths meaty, crunchy or have better sweeps than a simple, cliched filter sweep. Lots of good mixing / mastering. That stuff takes longer to learn.
