Topography of the Inferior Vena Cava
- Largest Vein of the Human Body
- Collects blood from the lower half of the body
- No valves
- Lies on the right side of the Abdominal Aorta
- Forms the right sagittal groove ont he liver
- Goes through the caval opening (diaphragm)
Visceral Tributaries
- Right Hepatic Vein, Intermediate Hepatic Vein, Left Hepatic Vein (venae hepaticae)
- Right Suprarenal Vein (vena suprarenalis dextra)
- Left Renal Vein (vena renalis sinister)
○ Left Suprarenal Vein (vena suprarenalis sinister)
○ Left Testicular Vein (vena testicularis sinistra)
○ Left Ovarian Vein (vena ovarica sinistra)
- Right Renal Vein (vena renalis dexter)
- Right Ovarian Vein (vena ovarica dextra)
- Right Testicular Vein (vena testicularis dextra)
- Genital branches drain the pampiniform plexus (plexus pampiniformis)

- Lumbar Veins (venae lumbales)
○ Communicate with: External and Internal Vertebral Venous Plexuses (plexus venosus vertebralis externus et internus) and the Ascending lumbar veins (vena lumbalis ascendens)
