I can relate with what fab daddy is saying, I came in to the UK barely 4 months now at first I was scared, anytime I had phone calls I will run to hubby to help listen so he can interpret, I was even scared of talking to them but at my place of work all of the people I work for are white in no time I could understand them and I never knew I was doing well until when they started asking me how long have you been in the UK and I replied not up 3 months and they are surprised, the question they ask most time is how come you can speak well, do you speak English in Nigeria and I replied yes , English is an official language in Nigeria and I became proud of myself, the people I work for they love me and love what I do.

Honestly I can relate everything you've mentioned here in this video. When I got a teaching assistant job here in Manchester, I asked myself if I was going to perform well on this role but I summoned courage and calmed myself . Today I teach the students freely with my Nigerian accent and I'm so happy and proud of it. I also interact with all my colleagues with confidence and they all love me. It all depends on one's mindset and trust me, I've got great and good friends among them.

I have been living in Ireland since 2002! On Thursday I did a presentation and my daughter told me how I pronounced "strength" wrong! I still don't have the "h" "k" sound! And sometimes, we don't sound as bad as we thought! The accent is the issue jare. Communication is about understanding! Thanks for sharing

I've lived in the UK since I was 12, Im now in my early 30s, and I still can't shake the Nigerian accent. It's so strong. Some things I have learned over the years - even the indigenous british oyinbos struggle with the english language, that's where the word "innit" comes from, they struggle to say "isn't it", so they say 'innit'. Most of us educated NIgerians actually have a better understanding and vocabulary of the English language than majority of the indigenous whites here. Within the UK the English, Scottish, Irish and Welsh all struggle to understand / tolerate each other's language. The (white) Eastern Europeans struggle more with speaking English than Africans in general. Despite this the white english man will act as if he understands them more than you (which is not true). When speaking / dealing with whites (British or European) always look them straight in the eyes, and do not look away or act timid. They're constantly looking for weakness in blacks, so they can pounce on you and manipulate you. For every 9 white people you deal with who don't want to accept you for who you are, there is usually 1 white person who is genuine, open-minded and willing to learn, so don't be too harsh on all of them, just watch them carefully. As the title says it's very easy as a black man to fall into an "Inferiority Complex" in the white man's land, their system is desgined to make you feel that way. Value yourself, value your African heritage, and take everything you see or hear from them "with a pinch of salt" as they say.

Awww u served in Plateau state! That’s my state off origin! We are great people! Am glad u are testifying 😅. It’s natural for us to put up a guard cos u are new to a place!. Adaptation takes a while and also white people struggle too just like us when they’re in our country.

The issue of integration matters a lot especially when your in foreign locations, i can categorically tell you that the best people ive come across are the Brits and they have helped me to integrate and understand them better and it goes a long way. I still have my Yoruba accent, however i understand them much better and i try to emulate how they do things wothout prejudice.

Hello, I think English is your second language FAB daddy. Yoruba is your first language. However, we should be free with our accent and be confident.

English is Nigeria’s official language so English is Our first language. In this context, it isn’t about tribe or native language. It’s about the country’s official language. I do get your point. Thank you for watching.
