What I agree with is that it may not be an Oiran at all, but simply a red herring. I wasn't convinced it was one, let alone anyone we already saw; that would remove all mystery entirely.

I actually understood some of what was going on this episode, with like the courtesan stuff. Mostly because of Yugiri; the shamisen-playing, chain-smoking, gives zero fucks about the modern world, likes jazz apparently, former-courtesan zombie idol. Courtesans are like escorts that like perform and stuff too; like they're all-in-one prostitute, arm-candy, personal servant, exotic dancer, personal musician and performer, maid, etc.; the more a courtesan could do, the more value they held. It's sad but also interesting in a way; for how many women were sold into this lifestyle (some at an early age; some also went into this line of work willingly) but they worked hard to earn a name for themselves.

Watching this episode of demon slayer I had an great idea for an anime/manga story. *There is an S rank special ops soldier that has retired from army and is forced to go into hiding where he has to assume the profile of an female apprentice that has to keep his secret unknown whilst undertaking difficult tasks the owner ask him to do. Also during these difficult tasks he bonds with the other workers that are trying to pay off their debt and escape from the owner's grasp.* Idk i just thought of that while watching this epsiode it questions what happens after you succeed.

Point about the makeup - The first mistake in getting the three of them hired as quickly as possible was plastering their faces in styles that wouldn't be appropriate / normal for women to wear at their age if they were being hired as Maiko. Maiko weren't allowed to have both of their lips painted red, only the bottom lip. Their neck would show their skin at their hairline with POWDERED skin, not full on painted white like Geisha. They would have **Red** eyeshadow / paint around their eyes with a light pink blush on their cheeks. Not clown face deep pink dots. Geisha didn't wear pink on their cheeks nor did they have as much red around their eyes as Maiko. Geisha had red on both lips, not just their bottom lip. And that's after they were hired and trained properly. If they weren't trained at all, Tengen would've had a better time getting them hired with the bare basics on their face. Like a jelly / cream on their lips with a subtle color and their hair in designs that brought out their best qualities. So yes. Tengen did it to himself when it came to getting them hired. Because no woman in their right mind would put that shit on their face.
