DD2's Dragon also had the problem of a less than ideal localization. Long story short, in Japanese it is clarified that this world in one without a true Seneschal, as Rothais, the last Seneshal, used his divine powers to return from the Rift and keep conquering instead of doing his work as a Senechal. The Storyteller stepped in its place, but he didn't really understood the point of a Seneshal and created a world with a "corrupted" cycle. The dragon in DD1 was always a different being (Arisens defeated by the Seneshal, or made directly by the Seneshal), while the one in DD2 is (iirc) always the same, and wants to break free from the corrupted cycle of the Pathfinder.
@cabellocorto55869 ай бұрын
That's a very interesting bit of info. So is the ending when you kill Nex ending the cycle permanently, or is NG+ renewing the cycle? Pawns will sometimes comment that you loved the world too much to let it go, or that they were looking for you in NG+ so I'm confused what the case is. My assumption is that it is ending the cycle permanently, since it seemed Itsuno has always wanted to tell the story of transcending the cycle of life-death-rebirth since the first Dragon's Dogma.

5:30 aside from Gran Soren, the area where you fought that second dragon is the remains of Bluemoon Tower, and it's interesting to note that Vernworth is more or less built on top of it and then you realize some other locations line up with locations in the first game as well, such as the checkpoint rest town being where the Greatwall was, the Volcanic Island Camp being roughly where Cassardis/The Encampment was and most of Battahl is made up of the canyon area passing between the first game's Encampment to Gran Soren and the Eradication Site, the Wyrmsblood Forest is also extremely close to where the first game's Conqueror's Sanctuary would've been, Flamebearer Castle is roughly where the Mountain Waycastle would've been, then you realize the whole questline where you had to exterminate a bunch of saurians from a cave underneath Harve village and save some soldiers is also extremely reminiscent of the well quest in Cassardis in the first game I'm really interested in seeing someone do a full-on examining of these areas and seeing if there's any clear references to the first game's locations hidden in either the layout of the land or through similar sidequest stories

The ending, with my pawn succumbing to Dragonsplague yet retaining his sense of self, was made all the more impactful by an experience near the start of my time in the Unmoored World. One of my pawns had Dragonsplague, though I didn’t know who; I’d just received a tutorial pop-up. So I refused to rest. I couldn’t use campsites. The only house I owned was in Vernsworth. The Brine was unreachable. I dismissed my other two pawns, and tried to cope for as long as I could. I was noticing every little change in my best friend’s behavior. Then I ran out of Allheal elixirs. So I went somewhere I truly believed to be safe, in order to do the single most gut-wrenching thing I’ve ever done in a video game, entirely of my own volition. I threw my pawn off of the top of the sunken city of Gran Soren’s temple. He was a Fighter. I had to do this three times before he began to succumb. And just sitting there, waiting, didn’t feel right. So I picked him up and just… started walking through the city. He faded away in my arms. And then, a scarce few hours later, he gave *everything* for my chance to really, truly, once and for all- break the cycle. This fucking game, man.

This is the first time an rpg has made me feel this way. And that whole pawn scene is just perfect. I don’t think I can ever change them, they had your back for the entire adventure and to see them give their life to see it through was heartbreaking. 620 pawn affinity is what people say is what you need for them to turn back, the highest affinity you can get for your pawn is going to the barbers which gives them 50. Others like high five and small talk are 5 or 10 and brining them takes off 20 I think

I do appreciate your honest and rather earnest reaction and opinion on this game. I loved the Unmoored world as well, but while I did enjoy our Pawn coming in clutch and wrenching their will back. The ending left something to be desired for me at least. It was a glorified cutscene over the ending credits to me. Admittedly I also missed out on the Talos bit due to me not taking it out in time (I thought I just had to run from it, then realized I could fight it and went back, by the time I did, it had already lost its arm). And I did enjoy how much more...INTENSE the world became. It reminded me of the winding corridors of the Everfall, unknown and untamed, with a possible immense danger around every corner. All in all, Dragon's Dogma 2 was to me a FUN game and wonderful to play through, but I frankly feel like it's missing some things. And I dearly hope we'll see that in the future so I can keep coming back to it with a smile on my face.

Imo what the game lacks is a complete narrative. From the point where we started to pursue Phaesus it started to make less sense and the whole act felt rushed; why are we stopping our pursuit to fight the giant mech that is CLEARLY after him, not us, not to mention the "fight" is so easy and lackluster that a cyclops put talos to shame; we found no solution for the godsway taking control of pawns, we learned of what it is and no effort was made to stop the production and utilization of it; the whole palace/nation drama setup and went absolutely nowhere, even without choosing the true ending its like, you are the king now congratz, so all that buildup of how Disa and her allies are such schemers and they didnt put up any resistance when we go and claim the throne??? Or did we just skip over all that???; The unmoored world part of the story fucking slapped, BUT its the same thing again, all that build up and we don't even get a real fight against the true dragon or whoever that is (which its also very unclear as to who the pathfinder is, the dragon itself? The brine? The pawns true master? Or all of the above?) We just get a semi interactable cutscene :/ a good one but still very disappointing as it provides little to no context as to why the entire thing happened. All in all, i feel that the story of the game is incredibly rushed or incomplete, theres also an entire unused section of the map to the top left which is possibly originally supposed to be a third nation where it would tie the whole plot together, or its simply cut out for the DLC. Sorry for the long post, i really love dd2 but some aspects of it are definitely lacking especially the story.
@Lishaaaaaaa9 ай бұрын
@@atastydonut I think the main premise of this game is that the eternal cycle instills a sense of futility into every aspect of daily life. The political/royal intrigue that is introduced in the first act is initially seen as this imperative matter to address, but in the grand scheme of things, it's a mere trifle because the entire world is a stageplay. It's why Rothais is unwilling to relinquish his role as Seneschal, but also has zero interest in doing anything to perpetuate the story the Greater Will demands be told. He tells us that he conquered the world, achieved apotheosis/godhood, and yet it's all for naught because none of it truly means anything. It's a gallingly bitter pill to swallow. That said, I think the game could've done a better job in articulating these themes to the player, and that the point still could've been conveyed in a way where the story also felt more cohesive/fleshed out. I think that would've made the story better tbh, because if we did actually get more content regarding exposing the False Sovran plot, learning that nothing matters in the end would've made that revelation hurt more because it'd invalidate the sheer effort it took us as the player to get to unravel Disa and Phaesus' plot.

It's always a tense fight for me, but now I know it's easier for the fighter vocation to dispatch them, I'll apply this knowledge to future fights. I loved the hell dragon fights. These creatures are like a fusion between the Brine and dragons, my favourite design being the unicorn one. Cute little savage. Reminds me of the cockatrice, they may have borrowed some animations from that creature, or it at least influenced the design and animation process. Those markings to me look like eyes. And the saying is true, it's no fun until someone loses an eye. Absolutely awesome fights. I miss fighting hydras, and weirdly evil eyes. I hope they include these creatures in future DLCs, and hopefully they'll include some of the creatures one can encounter in the online game! I wasn't able to play it, but it looks awesome! Oh gosh, when my Main Pawn got absorbed by the Talos and then piloted it to fight the next dragon, I was in absolute awe! She kicked scaly backside, even though the suit had lost an arm. I raced around trying to find a way to get in on the fight, but that never eventuated. Instead, cue cutscene where my Main Pawn has a Main Character moment X'D So epic!! I found that if you wait for the full day to pass, time stops around eight in the evening, Pawns will not return to the rift because it stops their timer too. That's unless this has been patched out, I still haven't accessed the internet for any updates yet, I've been playing it off-line. I agree with the quality of life points, I found it a bit jarring not being able to enhance equipment in storage or being able to sell from storage. And hard mode would be great for those who've gotten the feel for the game and want a nice challenge. It was handled well in the first game, hopefully if it's ever implemented in the second it'll be much the same. The end cutscene got me right in the feels too. It was so gallant of our Main Pawns to sacrifice themselves to aid us, it made the story way more memorable. I love the endgame, it is much more entertaining than the first games one. I have a soft spot for DD1 though, and nothing can change that, but I really love the second game, even more now since I played the endgame. I thought the game was awesome before, but this just elevated my opinion of it to new extremes. I think I've lost a solid week of hours playing this game. It is addictive! But yeah, the original game's soundtrack was much better. I apologise for rambling on, I just love this game, and I enjoy watching others enjoying this game too.

Game wouldve been better with the everfall :(
@helenrowan53839 ай бұрын
@mrsgamer9218 The addition of the Everfall would have been awesome, it was a great place to farm loot and hunt monsters, before I got the hang of the Bitterblack Isle. Nothing like an endless dungeon crawl, but I do like how the post game DD2 gives people the chance to explore places previously inaccessible due to the Brine. I reckon it would be awesome to have the best of both worlds. Maybe they'll bring the Everfall back, or something of the like in an update or DLC. Fingers crossed.

I was so pleased when my Pawn was able to resist the curse, and the story was opposite in that DD1 the story was about being condemned to be free, and that the cycle was to replace the seneschal and this time it was about breaking the cycle that locks everyone into a prefixed destiny. As Schopenhauer put it pushed forward by one's past pulled forward by future desires to change the situation on is in. But what if that situation was a scheme imposed on you, where you acted freely to imposed situations.

I think my biggest gripe with the game has been the terrain climbing. Climbing enemies feels good, but getting on certain ledges and cliffs feels really off. Almost like your entire character is slathered in oil and can’t grab anything to save their life.

I feel so regretful. I have been 'avoiding' the DD2 videos for months, because I got into the game later. The first game was my all time favourite, and the sequel now rivals it. It's sad that I am watching these now, in the absence of literally my favourite KZbinr. What was stated at the end is exactly how I also feel about the game. Main complaint is the not as great music. But other than that, it's truly amazing. I loved the post game more than that of the first. It was truly post apocalyptic, and they even did that writing thing in post apocalypse settings were the main character is absent for x amount of time, and when they rejoin the stories characters, they have become survivors in an unforgiving world, and they do not share the audience's optimism. It's also a way to make the player feel like you could have possibly given everyone more hope, but that is not an option after all the time that passed. Honestly, this may have been the best post apocalyptic setting I've experienced in fiction. It's a truly, *truly* screwed up world. But anyway. Thank you, Infinite Cringe. You are too good for this platform, but I hope you find the strength and time to someday come back.

Beginning DD2 I had created my pawn inspired by an OC I have usually played in most games where you can CaC, he's been a part my gaming narratively for over half my long life. I decided this time. I won't play as him but, I'd like to bring him along as my bud in this new adventure. Bonding with a creation of mine that has been a part of me for so long even before playing the game was such a cool experience. The end of adventure together with him fighting against the Dragon's control and sacrificing himself tore my fucking heart out. I've gotten emotional over games before but, this was the first time I think I've ever "ugly cried" over one.

That cutscene at the end with my pawn absolutely GUTTED me 😭 I was so not expecting it. Everything at the end made it that much more impactful. A bit before the dragon business started, I realized she started acting different when talking to me. Also, not sure if it's designed this way, but the number of times Dragonsplague got spread through my party, the way it changed my main pawn's demeanor, all the times she saved my butt from falling to my death (I also play with that self imposed rule but I restart from wherever my last save is so I lose progress). When she came up and gave that speech... TEARS man, TEARS 😢

Although I've only seen others play, I feel like the only NPC whose performance stands out to me so far is the Sphinx. If anyone comes close the the presence of Grigori, it would have to be her. Which is a shame, because she's an optional side quest and not central to the game's plot and themes.

I honestly ended up appreciating DD2's soundtrack in a lot of ways; it's cool to see them introduce dynamic/multi-stage combat music, and a lot of the less memorable monster themes in DD1 (I don't like the Griffin theme lol) are actually really great in 2. The True Ending theme is also just *mwah* incredible--as well as several other key story moments. My only wish was that the game used more of that drumkit precussion--I can understand avoiding electric guitars given they were always an anachronistic choice, but the drum beats in certain OG songs really made the soundtrack, and you can feel it missing in 2.
