I wish they would use the Japanese ash wood trim in more models. I think it is absolutely beautiful. Hell I wish I could find a table like that.

I agree that Infiniti missed an opportunity to make the back seats a more fun place to be. The 2002-2006 Q45's had all sorts of goodies available for backseat passengers. Otherwise it seems like a nice car, but I think the Genesis is probably the better value.

You know Infiniti's got issues when all car reviews involving their cars since 2013 have to have the "Infiniti Q##, formerly the Infiniti x##" line so that people know which car it is. Infiniti should go back to the old nomenclature system for their lineup because I still don't know which car is which and what vehicle segment it sells in.

That's what happens when a former Audi executive takes over. Look at what Cadillac is calling their models now. Johan de Nyschen (former Audi exec.) is now turning Cadillac model names like SRX into XT5 and the new flagship CT6. Infiniti Q models almost seem comprehensive compared to what Cadillac is getting now thanks to the German in charge.

gedaman I totally agree. That guy single handedly ruined Infiniti and it's identity in one swoop. Then he disappeared after 12 months at the helm! Makes me mad as an Infiniti fan.

Interesting issue for Infiniti when it comes rear seat amenities. The Q70 is not supposed to be a prestige flagship sedan, but a middle manager special, so how far do you go with the back seat lux? If this were a $90k sedan, it would've been outfitted differently. Maybe a $10k rear seat option package should be offered, but this does have space no other car in this class offers, so it is a step ahead, regardless.

Though decidely not sporty, both the Kia K900 and Hyundai Equus do the whole backseat thing much better than the Q70, if that's your top priority. No AWD though.
@gedaman
@gedaman 9 жыл бұрын
+JDubbs07 Kia/Hyundai are trying to poach Lexus LS customers with their flagship sedans. Infiniti is trying to take the same Lexus LS customers with this stretched wheelbase Nissan Fuga. I know Nissan can do better than the Q70L. The old Q45 was innovative, but similar in execution to this with its bland bizarre styling.

+gedaman have you seen Hyundai's new Genesis G90? It's their new Equus replacement and should really be a tour de force, if you go by the press release at least. Kia's production GT sedan has also been spotted testing on the street, and their new Cadenza debuts soon with the intent of moving it further upmarket. These guys aren't messing around - Infiniti needs to get back in the game, big time. I could see them losing their luxury position to H/K in Europe, where they barely sell anything.

Steve, you have gained a new fan. CNET's Wayne Cunningham could learn a few things from you and Brian Cooley on how to review a car. It's a shame Nissan cheats out North America by removing the Scratch Shield Paint after just one year. That Forest Air climate control system was another unique selling point I was looking forward to trying also. Infiniti could get back on track by going back to their old naming letters like G, M, EX, FX, etc. I would also like to see a return of the Cefiro to compete with the Acura TLX. I miss my 1999 Infiniti I30. Honda just doesn't match Nissan when it comes to near luxury FWD sports sedans like the Nissan Cefiro/Infiniti I Series. Nissan lost a customer when they discontinued the I35. The G37/Q50 is nice until you've driven a BMW 3-Series and have a little bit more money.

@@muziklmykal Yes, AWD cars all look like they are on stilts. It’s really unattractive. The AWD Q70L with the sport package (larger wheels and brakes) looks so much better thanks to its longer wheel base. But Steve’s tester does not have it and it looks quite awkward with the small rims.

Extending the car a few inches and a $75K price tag puts it near Lexus LS territory. I'll take the Lexus - at least until Infiniti offers a few more (competitive) luxury features.

Hey Steve, It is near time to change my 2001 integra to an upgrade. I am torn between the 2013 accord and the 2012 TL. I know you are familiar with vehicles. I know the gas mileage on the TL is lower, but the ride, I like the TL ride and comfort, never really test the accord. Anyone else want to chime in?

Great review. Maybe it was the color combination, but with exception of the wood inside, I could not see anything "opulent" about this car, design or engineering-wise. And Infiniti is woefully lagging when it comes to infotainment. $75,000???

The cavernous rear seat does not match the lack of amenities that other models do offer. I'll take a Lexus over this any day, where have all the original Q's gone? To the salvage yards, that's where.

My Ford Fusion has either as-good or better interior trim pieces in its cabin as this car seems to have. Even in Nissan's own lineup, the Maxima and Murano seem to do better. Couple this to the fact that the G37 was better than the Q50, and Infiniti has some real problems they need to iron out. Forget the safety and get back to building BMW-alternatives.
