Al thought the Lexus might have lost the luxury design which I agree with you on Lexus but Lexus resale value will hold more than the infinity. If I was to buy a Infinity yes they are nice cars but they depreciate like crazy I would get a CPO one.
@joshjamescars
@joshjamescars 5 ай бұрын
@midiman they don’t depreciate “like crazy” but they do depreciate more than Lexus. However, a lot of Lexus owners and Infiniti owners buy to keep for ten years at which point the experience they’re going to have over that decade is more important than whatever they’ll get in 10 years anyway and I think that’s the benefit of this QX60.
@midiman5045

@@joshjamescars Josh why lose all $ a 2 year old CPO will have the depreciation built in. the New Lexus is unknown at this point but Infinity is know for major break downs. Now like you have said in the video these are new and could be a whole different ball game., but based on previous Infinity's they are not reliable. What I really hate about the new Lexus is that 4 cylinder Turbo in the RX and also them removing the classy Lexus logo from the back.

@@joshjamescars I might have missed when you described the engines it but the Lexus V6 fks has both port and GDI does the infinity? Also Lexus said they need to met Fed MPG standards that is why they went with the 4 Cylinder Turbo how did Infinity keep it?
@joshjamescars
@joshjamescars 5 ай бұрын
@midiman5045 The 2GR FKS does but it’s only used for a periodic cleaning cycle. The VQ to the best of my ability in researching it does not. Also, Lexus and Toyota use that as an excuse for a lot of things they’re doing and it is true that strict emissions regulations will end V6s and V8s, but ultimately Toyota’s moves to smaller engines is because that helps them reach their carbon neutrality goals, it’s not because they are being forced to. Nissan, Honda, Acura, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis also still use NA V6s in their midsize SUVs.

Ahhh. You are right. We own one. I hated my RX450h. I confess I am a retired Nissan service manager. However. The brand went to a very sad place. 18 months ago. Japan kicked Renault out with a 19% interest. Eventually completely gone. Now Japan is in full control. The mission is to make the best vehicles in the world. And yes. That V6 is a legend. I am so honored you love it. 👍

I had no idea that had happened, so thank you for sending me down a rabbit hole to learn more! But it really explains why Nissan, Mitsubishi, and Infiniti have published these all new “bridge to the future” roadmaps we’ve seen come out of those three in the last 8 months. I’ve always been such a huge fan of the Nissan/Infiniti brand because I grew up in the 90s with Nissan of that age and so I’m so incredibly happy to see the brand having a renaissance. The new QX80 is incredible (as I’m sure the new Armada will be too) if you have a chance to go in and see one. They will be hitting dealers in July.

I'm going to buy a 23 or 24 QX60 with this nice v6...what is the secret in years to come to keep the back of the valves clean (since there aren't port injectors) ? And I guess carbon builds up in other places, so what is it an owner can do to keep the carbon from building up?

Haha, yes!!! I’m not here to amass a huge viewer base. I’m here to speak my mind to like minded people. :) Probably the GX460 because it’s old Lexus quality and reliability. @NasheBeLike It’s all about emissions. A turbo I4 pollutes less than a naturally aspirated V6. Government regulations set standards for how much vehicles can pollute, and so that’s why you see even full size trucks like the Chevy Silverado coming with a turbo-4 today. Unfortunately, Infiniti won’t be going back to V6s even if you do leave feedback.

Thanks Josh. As an older buyer ready to buy my last car, this is food for thought. It's between this Autograph or Sensory trim and the 2024 Toyota Venza Hybrid. Yes, it's an unfair comparison budget wise but if I spoil myself I want to make sure I'm getting my money's worth.
@joshjamescars
@joshjamescars Ай бұрын
Hello! I would think most about the long term costs to run either. The Venza hybrid is incredibly efficient so if you ever think you may get to the point where you’re on a fixed income and so your money is going to have to go further, the Venza is going to be cheaper to run over your ownership term. The Venza is also way smaller as you may know-it’s a compact versus full-size and both have their benefits. Venza being smaller is easier to drive and place on the road and great for a couple who may no longer need to carry around kids. But the QX60 being a solid midsize crossover is going to seat grandkids or family/friends more comfortably.

Wow - completely agree with you. I've been inside the Lexus TX and it feels so cheap. Dull looking door cards, flat design - super basic. Out of place for a $72 CAD base vehicle! The RX lost all the luxury of wood and leather. Now Infiniti is looking convincing. Never drove one but I'm happy to hear it's not a turbo 4. Uh - Lexus isn't even trying anymore. What's the use of paying $10-15k over the Toyota counterpart. The Lexus interiors look so cheap too. In Canada alone, it's #1 on most stolen vehicle, and most people say it's in port city or major areas (Montreal or Toronto). But living in Edmonton AB - back in Aug 2023 around 5-7 RX were stolen in 24-48 hrs! Lexus RX, SUVs or off-road GX/LX are stolen, shipped to Africa or Middle East so the thiefs can pocket 2-3x what the car is worth here. We are subjected to insurance premiums so I would stay away from Lexus! I want an Infiniti QX50 when it gets redesigned. Infiniti needs hybrids badly because the VQ mpg isn't great now in the age of TVs and PHEVs. I love classic, comfy cruising and Lexus is going German. Stiffer ride than usual, engine noise etc... Love this brand.

Agree, Toyota and Lexus product overlap makes no sense because the same engines and materials. Sometimes the Toyota version has better options at lower price. Agreed on all points. Especially the VQ getting poor gas mileage by modern standards. Actually, you were too kind- it’s horrendous. Wonderful engine, one of the all-time greats, but it’s Achilles heel is the fuel economy. It sounds great, is smooth for a V6 (not as much so as an inline-6) , is bulletproof reliable, and makes nice power. But the mpg is horrid. My first-gen G35s with the port injection VQ35DE get about 15 mpg city in winter fuel.😱 A silver lining to go along with that V8 gas mileage is V8 torque- this motor MOVES on throttle tip-in around town. The equally reliable, smoother, and more efficient N52 L6s in my BMWs just don’t provide the same shove in the back when you first get on the throttle.

I enjoyed your review of the QX60. I agree with your assessment of the car since I have own a 2024 QX60 for the last 6 months. I did get the Autograph trim since I like the captain's chairs in the second row. The only comment I have is the engine is a little underwhelming compared to my 2017 Q7 which I traded in for the QX60. Don't get me wrong, the QX60 engine is sufficient for most driving situations; it's just those times you would like a little more HP to navigate traffic. The other comment I have is, I found the QX60 the best value overall when compared to its major competitors. In most cases, I would have paid $8-$10,000 more for one of the competitor's cars in order to get the same features.

Great choice! To be fair, with regard to the Q7, I’m guessing you had either the turbo I4 or turbo V6. Either one is going to feel faster off the line because you had the advantage of forced induction engine, which typically allows the engine to hit max power much lower in the rev range than a naturally aspirated V6 which has no forced induction and hits its max power much closer to the redline.

@@joshjamescars The question is, would Toyota since they suspended their EV production and preferred to be penalized by the powers that be (for the sake of Green energy), would Toyota bring back the V6 and V8? If Infinity / Nissan retained V6 and V8 naturally aspirated Direct, commit to these type of engine, likely a large group of loyal Toyota users may exodus to Infinity/Nissan. The sweet hum of the V6 was clearly heard and I trust that was not coming OFF the speakers like the current 5th generation Lexus, which I personally dubbed as a FIRST GEN RX inline 4's be it turbo or hybrid or combined. Testing a new car benchmarking it with the older car always instantly make me want to get rid of my older car. Not this time comparing the 2023 RX to my 2013! But then I did not realize this was an INLINE 4. An avid RX 500H however posted in FB that hands down the 500h will smoke the older V6. I retorted I did not buy a race car and wish those users luck driving hours sustaining speed above 80 mph. But only time can tell. Does this Q60 take PREMIUM or 87 Octane? You gave me hope Josh, as I thought I will be stuck buying USED, cars. Bought last fall the 2022 RX F sport my preferred line with only 5600 miles. But I have no control on my preferred first oil change at 1000 MILES then change it every 2000 miles to 10,000 miles then follow every 6 months change. My first car a Toyota Corona in the Phillipines when back to ZERO kms and went all the way to over 100's thousands km. True story.
@joshjamescars
@joshjamescars 5 ай бұрын
@rogerventorres7234 Well first I just want to set the record straight here, Toyota hasn’t suspended any EV production-they’re moving full steam ahead into EVs and alternative fuel vehicles. In case you’re not aware, Lexus is going full EV by 2030. No gas cars and no hybrid cars will wear the Lexus badge in the next 5-10 years. Here’s the thing to understand: Toyota is such a huge company that they don’t need loyal customers to buy their cars which is why you don’t see them catering to people like us. They’re catering to the off roaders because they can milk a ton of profit out of them (with a $65K Tacoma, $85K GX550, etc.). But make no mistake we are never going to see a U-turn from Toyota toward bigger engines, and it honestly won’t be long before Nissan/Infiniti and Honda/Acura also ditch bigger, naturally aspirated engines too. The QX80 as you probably know is losing its V8 for 2025 and will also be a twin-turbo V6. So if you value that, you have probably the next 2-3 years to find a car that meets your needs if you want to buy new. As for the QX60, it recommends premium but will run perfectly fine on regular gas too!

@rogerventorres7234 No, not really. Because like it or not, we do need to move away from fossil fuels. We need to reduce our carbon footprint. People protested when seatbelts became law and when smoking was banned in public, but change happens and over time, we adapt. I love my V6 and V8 cars but I know they’re not great for the environment and that’s why I daily drive a PHEV and only take the V8 out on the weekends.

I had a 2009 and 2012 FX and QX70 previously and have always loved the driving experience with these SUV’s. I drove the 2024 QX60 and yes a beautiful car. @joshjamescars
@joshjamescars 5 ай бұрын
Yes! Murano and QX65 are coming sometime between now and the end of the year and the QX65 will be an FX-like coupe-UV. The big difference between your QX70 and the QX65 is that yours is rear wheel drive (or RWD biased AWD) and the QX60/65 is front wheel drive (or FWD biased AWD). The Cayenne is great, but definitely make sure you are prepared to spend the money on Porsche servicing and parts (most people say to set aside about $2K a year for routine maintenance and wear items). It’s a pretty penny but to some, it’s worth it! The other one to keep an eye on is the Genesis GV80 Coupe which looks hot and should slot in between the QX65 and Cayenne in all respects (pricing, driving dynamics, etc.)

It’s refreshing to hear someone giving credit where it’s due. So many reviewers approach Nissan and Infiniti with an immediate bias that they don’t truly allow themselves to appreciate the strengths that are there. The QX60 is a solid product in this class. I do think there are nicer options, but you’re going to pay way more. But yes, it’s nicer than any Lexus competitor. I have been SO underwhelmed by Lexus plain and mostly black interiors. I really feel like they’re taking advantage of their reputation. The TX is so blah and the fact that it shares so much with the TX. They literally only changed the front and rear end on the exterior. But you won’t see people calling Lexus out for that, but somehow people complain the QX60 is too much like the Pathfinder when they share not one exterior panel and even have a completely different roof line. Inside the only thing they share are the bottom of the door cards and lower bits that you really don’t see. And never mind how much better the QX60 rides. This thing should be flying off lots but people really shop badges versus the best actual product. But I have a feeling once the new QX80 is on sale, and they update the QX60, QX60 sales are going to go up. I Agree, Infiniti should be watched. The QX65 should be interesting. The fact that it’s taking a while to come to market and shares the same underpinnings as the QX60 means there is some significant difference between. I’m hoping they debut a more powerful hybrid/plugin hybrid option.

I completely agree with everything you say here. It’s why I wanted to do a video on the QX60 because a lot of my viewers who are Toyota people are so stuck in their ways and will just blindly buy the Lexus badge without regard for how mediocre the quality of the interior and drivetrain is today. I was just driving the TX yesterday and it’s abysmal to say the least. Hard plastic everywhere and the most synthetic feeling upholstery.

@@Simon-oq6ds I'm sorry, but this notion of Nissan going out of business is so annoying to me because it's clearly not the case. Sure they are in a rough spot, but no where near the point someone has to wonder if they're "going to be around". Though not at the top of the charts, they are profitable and trending in the right direction (profits up 51% FY2023). Nissan ain't going nowhere. When I mentioned a badge, I was speaking moreso of how so many people blindly purchase things without considering other options and doing research. I get that Toyota/Lexus has been historically reliable, but that doesn't mean they're always the best option to buy. And it doesn't mean that will always be true and the shift to being unreliable can be a very quick one. Never mind how they are now taking advantage of that reputation and charging more while they're clearly de-contenting/cheapening some of their vehicles. And to be honest, reliability is NOT and should not be a luxury... that's a very basic requirement of any purchase.

Infiniti reliability especially with this engine should be quite good. As for Mazda, they have a lot of issues to work out with the CX90. Go look at the long list of recalls that have been issued on that platform. I think in 2-3 years a lot of it will have been ironed out but I’m passing on them for the moment. Also, the new I6 and PHEV power trains are brand new from the ground up and incredibly complex… it won’t cost BMW money to fix down the line but complexity and novelty inherently lead to problems in early years.

Well this now has a turbo-4 for 2025. The trend is due to emissions regulations. Manufacturers HAVE TO meet government (US and abroad) standards for the overall average emissions of their portfolios. When they don’t meet those standards they get assessed penalties. And that’s why you see even Chevrolet moving to a turbo-4 in the Silverado. It’s not the automakers wanting to do so, but that the only way to force them to make more environmentally friendly cars is to get them into compliance by penalizing them financially.

I'll go look at whichever version has ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, front and rear parking sensors, 360° camera and power folding mirrors. How about rear heated seats?
@joshjamescars
@joshjamescars 4 ай бұрын
You’re looking for the Sensory or Autograph trim, in that case! Both have everything you’re looking for. The Luxe may as well but not sure about heated seats. It has the same level of “self driving” as any other car (adaptive cruise, lane trace, etc.) but those are one level below Blue Cruise/Super Cruise/Tesla Auto Pilot).

Nissan and Infiniti were under the control of the French for the last 5-10 years (in the Nissan Renault Alliance) and that lead to a lot of the crap products we saw then. But they’ve started to separate and now Nissan is fully in control of their destiny so we should see a return to the solid and robust cars they were making in the 90s and early 2000s.

What do you think of the qx50?My brother's in a dilemma between thin and the qx50 for the long term
@joshjamescars
@joshjamescars 5 ай бұрын
Oh, QX60 for sure. The QX50 still has a Nissan CVT and that’s a hard pass for me. But tell him not to buy yet because there will be a QX65 coming out which will be a two row version of this in a more coupe-UV body style (like the OG FX) and that’s what I would go for.

Would you buy a 2024 with the V6 (while they are still out there) or be happy with the turbo 4 in the 2025? Love you review and love this QX60. Just disappointed in the engine change - I think.
@joshjamescars
@joshjamescars 26 күн бұрын
I would 100% buy a 2024 with the V6. The VC Turbo engines are being investigated by the NHTSA for premature engine failure and other problems. Until that gets sorted, I would stay far away from that.

Off topic for this video but what about the Mazda CX90 or GMC Acadia Denaili ? $60k for good ride , luxury type interior and good performance.
@joshjamescars
@joshjamescars 25 күн бұрын
CX90 is an entirely new product from the ground up and has some issues that need to be worked out (many have reported that the transmission in the I6 has some weird behaviors that need to get refined out) and so like any new product I always say give those a year or two. And with the CX90’s engines being brand new, homegrown designs, reliability should be treated as a question mark. Acadia, Traverse, and Enclave are out for me because they all use a tiny 2.0L turbo-I4 and I think that’s just WAY too big a car for such a small engine.

Nice review, thank you. It’s nice to see some independent thinking as opposed to “Toyotas and Lexus are great, don’t buy anything else”. I really like the look of this car. Again, really nice thought out review. I want a Nissan Rogue, I just wish the engine was simpler
@joshjamescars
@joshjamescars 5 ай бұрын
Thank you! Go for the Mitsubishi Outlander. Same platform but built in Japan and with the older 2.0L NA I4. I’d argue it’s also much nicer looking inside and out than the Rogue. My father in law has an 08 Rogue, built in Japan, with the same ending and he has 255K miles on the original engine and CVT.

@@joshjamescars Thanks for responding. I too like what Nissan is becoming. Question, what’s your honest assessment of Robue or Outlander vs. RAV 4?
@joshjamescars
@joshjamescars 4 ай бұрын
I think it depends on what you value in a car. Rav4 is going to offer a hybrid which neither Rogue nor Outlander does and to me is a miss because most others in the segment do. The Rav hybrid is simply the best driving appliance you can get from a value/drive/reliability perspective. I don’t personally care for the Rogue’s 3-cylinder turbo and CVT combo and that would count the Rogue out entirely for me. I had one as a rental car for a couple weeks this past winter and the drivetrain didn’t feel well sorted. In the pure gas models, the Outlander and Rogue also have CVTs where the RAV4 has an 8-speed automatic. But the Outlander PHEV is great and definitely more luxurious than the Rav4 Prime.

Hi Josh, I am a 2021 4Runner TRD Pro owner, should I consider QX60 over the QX80? (Not 2025 QX80). I am not so happy with the NVH of my 4Rumner, as it is too loud and very cheap inside.
@joshjamescars
@joshjamescars 4 ай бұрын
Hello! I think you should check out a 2022 or 2023 GX. If you like the size of your 4Runner but want a much more premium ride, that’s what I’d suggest. The outgoing QX80 is great too but it’s GARGANTUAN. I wouldn’t want to drive something that big on the daily.

What was your MPG on your test drive?
@joshjamescars
@joshjamescars 5 ай бұрын
In the total time I had the car it averaged around 23 mpg which is right in the stated 20 city/25 highway range. And typical for a naturally aspirated V6. It also does not require premium gas.

@@joshjamescars Thanks for the info. To compare my 2022 RX 350 prem gets about 33 in eco mode with cruse set to 55 on highway. No traffic This just for info. I think we should compare the weight to see if the QX60 is heaver.

5:11 I think the Sensory & Autograph trims should both have body color paint matched wheel arches & side skirts as a visual difference between the Luxe & Pure trims. Or even the Luxe should get it to signify they're the higher trims of the QX60

I completely agree. It should at least be painted in gray the way Volvo and Audi do on their Cross Country and All Road wagons if they want it to visually stand out.

@@joshjamescars I am sure you’ve seen the “takumi” interiors and the new inline 6 engines that Mazda invested into. Also there’s an interesting series of behind the scene infomercials that Mazda did with the Shogun actor Hiroyuki Sanada.

I have, but I’ve also seen all the issues they’re having at the moment with their engines and platforms as a result of the car being brand new from the ground up. And, having worked in automotive advertising for clients like Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Ford, and Volvo; I tend to not put too much stock in what the flashy videos they put out say about their products.

Whether it’s “better” would depend what you need. This is a great luxury unibody crossover meant for on road driving. The GX is a non-luxury, body on frame, dedicated off-roader that’s great at that but not much else.

I’m sick of V6 and got rid of my 2005 Toyota Sienna although the 05 Sienna has been so reliable even at 335K miles but engine and transmission still in great condition. I just didn’t like its 20 mpg therefore traded in for the new Toyota Sienna Hybrid that gets 35-45 mpg, 600 miles range and 5 minute refueling.

Hello again!!! And haha, probably not. Just because I wouldn’t want to give up any of our current cars. As for the size, later this year Infiniti will be coming out with a QX65 which will be a slightly smaller, 2-row Coupe-UV based on this QX60 which I’m super excited for. The QX50 and 55 have the old Nissan CVT which I don’t like, so I’d pass on them but if they were to bring out a new version of them with a real automatic, then we could definitely be in business!
