Because it's free. I played it for a bit. The dresses look incredible, but outside of that the graphics are merely okay (art design is relatively nice outside of the dresses, but also wouldn't quite call it great). Gameplay is too simple though. The feel of the gameplay is fine, but it's not very engaging because it's just so lenient there's no challenge or skill required. And the menuing is just awful (at least with a controller). I played it for 1 session, but I don't see myself returning to it.

@@thenonexistinghero completely agree with the menus, (i play on pc its still horrible.) anyway thats the selling point not every game needs to be dark souls level of difficult or baldurs gate choice complication. sometimes you just want to play something simple and relaxing. something like animal crossing or stardew valley its not everyones main game, but people come back to play from time to time just to relax from this overly toxic real world called earth

Fun fact about Nikki, its actually well known by its fanbase that its story will be a bit unhinged sometimes. For example, in Love Nikki, the reason why people in Miraland solve everything with fashion battle was because there's blood curse in the land that prohibit hurting someone, because you will experience the same pain whenever you give physical pain to others. But then, one of the vilaiin managed to bypass this curse and stabbed Nikki BFF in fromt of her, and she died in Nikki lap. Or in Shining Nikki where Nikki failed to save Love Nikki's Miraland for 108 times, she kept returning to the past until she stumbled into Miraland's past before blood curse. She got a handgun and almost managed to kill someone with it 😂 Infinity Nikki miraland seems to not have blood curse too, so hopefully Nikki would get a cool weapon. That world is still doomed to destruction though, that's just Miraland's fate.

Come to think of it, almost all the stereotypically "manly" games share some less-complex elements of a dress-up game like Nikki. We just love and value aesthetics. That's probably why it's often discussed in philosophy. Like how Warframe players like fashion frames. Elden Ring with cool looking gear and armor. When I realized that "feminine" or "for children" games are often superficial labels, I learn to appreciate games outside these superficial labels. It's like the blue for boys, pink of girls phenomenon. No one's really restricting us from trying different stuff aside from our very own insecurity and the external opinion of others.

I absolutely loved this moment, and I think it was also perfectly placed. Going through the platforming sections, chasing those orbs and stars with the checklist, putting poor Nikki through so much exercise, it was the breather that I didn't even realize I needed. And I think that really reinforces what you said about the game being able to give us moments away from life and hardship, and music letting us just feel what we need to feel. It also, I think, really gives substance to the game's theme of whim and inspiration as powers for good. Hope there are more moments like this going forward.

Man, I related to this video hard. I'm 37, and the past few years have been really rough for me too. I've tried another similar looking gatcha game at the urging of a friend and bounced off hard, and expected a similar thing to happen when trying Infinity Nikki, but it's so NICE. Like you said, it feels like a safe, warm hug. I've done a literal double-take at my screen multiple times from unexpectedly great music hitting out of nowhere! It's nice to know I'm not the only almost-40-oh-god-where-did-the-time-go escaping into this game for a bit of a breather from life!

This moment in the story absolutely blew me away. Transporting is definitely the right world. Nikki is free and when we play this game, she helps us feel that freedom from whatever is hurting us. The therapeutic power of games, man. Also, at its core, is a very Nintendo sense of what makes platforming fun. They cooked HARD on this.

I'm having way more fun with this game than I thought I would. Recently I've been playing a lot of hardcore multiplayer FPS games and games with really heavy themes like NieR or Disco Elysium, so it kinda feels refreshing to play something more optimistic and welcoming. Generally I scoff at "cozy games", because I think there's slight overabundance of them on the market and they seem to be the same kind of farming/collecting kind of game. Nikki however has tons of personality and just looks like a labour of love.

I loved your reaction there. I was pleasantly surprised with Infinity Nikki. I thought it would be super casual, dressing up Nikki in super cute outfits and so on... Infinity Nikki is that but much, much more and I found myself pleasantly pleased. You hit the nail right on the head - this really speaks to my inner child and, in many ways, Nikki reminds me of my own daughter, which makes this game even more special to me. I watched the stream VOD yesterday while playing and I'll do it again right now. I'm currently at a point in my life where I legit teared up at that song on the paper crane, because it just resonated so hard for me. I feel like my brain needs to focus on just one thing right now, as a mental break from everything else, and this game is providing exactly that, in the way I need, with pretty clothes and nice music. Also, I LOVE seeing all these "big tough guys" losing their minds over how cute this game is. They deserve a break, too. I'm happy for us all we can play dress-up with Nikki.

i felt the same exact way when i played that moment. and i thought too about how much work probably went into that one sequence. a whole song was produced, a beautiful cutscene with gorgeous scenery. like, people had to work on that. that probably took weeks if not longer to make that one sequence and it doesnt confer any monetary value to them yknow? it was made just to make people smile. so many people worked together just to make the players day a little bit better. and THAT warms my heart.

First of all, I love Infinity Nikki. It's so fun to play a game that's just low stakes, easy, and beautiful. It's had some bugs so far, but you can tell the devs are really trying and I'm extremely excited to see all of the new content planned for release. Second - and this might seem kind of unrelated - so much of what you were saying in this video is why Okami is my favorite game of all time. It's just beauty and wholesomeness and life. It's impossible for me to not feel happy while playing that game, because it truly teaches you to find the beauty in everything, and that even in those dark moments there is so much to look for. Also, the music is obviously phenomenal but anyways I never thought I'd be finding a little bit of that heart and energy and wholesomeness in a Nikki game, but I am glad it's there 💜

That scene was so charming and out of nowhere :) I hope you continue playing the game, I was surprised by a very nice quest music later on, I didn't want to continue the quest just so I could listen to it haha. I have 0 care for the aesthetics of clothes irl, I just get what's comfy and sturdy. But Nikki games are very fun despite that for some reason? I played Love Nikki years ago and it was great, probably better than most other dress-up games actually. I remember the story actually being quite good for a mobile game, so that was a huge part of my hype for this new game. Games "made for girls" sometimes like to hide very meaningful and serious topics under the surface,a pretense of cutesy nothings. Even huge games like the Nikki ones. That's part of the charm to me - maybe the biggest appeal actually. I hope this game doesn't shy of those darker moments just because it's more mainstream, it makes the characters feel more real and connected when it's well-done.

Haven't had a chance to check out the stream, but I'm really excited to. I'm only just starting this video. Im also a Warframe and Arknights fan, so this is hardly my first rodeo, but I've been playing Nikki series since the end 2016, and I forced myself to have low expectations for this game. I didn't think they'd manage to marry the dress up and open world, and they blew my expectations out of the water. I really hope this game can impact game design in this sort of open world space, because they managed to get both the dress up and the photography modes so well done, and those are both things I see people wanting better options for across pretty much all gaming. Warframe fashion and captura also is a stand out in the industry imo

Collecting stuff to create outfits. You can catch bugs, go fishing, and collect a variety of plants, fruits, and animal fur. There is combat, but it is by no means the main focus.

​@@andrinaleong4079 I haven't played Genshin, so I can't compare, however, I also had difficulty with the joystick controlls opening the navigation menu, but I managed to "fix" it by changing the in-game controls to "joystick", instead of the "fixed-joystick" or the other(?) choice listed within that particular menu. That might need to be the solution for you too 😁

That domain was my FAVORITE out of the entire story gameplay honestly. I was shocked by the vocals in that song c: I went back in that place to collect the rest of the Whimstars and Dew of Inspiration and was immensely sad that it didn’t play again 😭 but I get why, they probably didn’t want people to keep going back in that domain so much or something LOL. Infinity Nikki may be a gacha game, but it sure fucking blew me away by how *relaxed* I felt while playing, and I’m still shocked that I can still relax so easily. LOVED that reaction of yours for this, you were locked and LOADED with all that yappin' (in a good way /gen). I could tell because it was like a river dam that was ready to be free and it made me happy to see 🫶🏻
