Today Clark, Jason and I went on the North Umpqua River from Boulder Flat to Gravel Bin - about 14 miles. We were on the water by 1:30 and got to the takeout at 5:10 so it was just under 4 hours. We didn't stop for lunch and paddled in most of the flatwater so we could get home at a reasonable time. It was the best day on the water kayaking any of us remembered.
It was just over 100 degrees and the cool water was really refreshing. I'dd highly recommend this stretch of water if you're an experienced paddler since there are 14 class 3 and one class 4 rapid. There are too numerous to count class 2 rapids and a few class 1 riffles. The only thing that compares in Oregon in terms of character is the Wild and Scenic Rogue River.
Join Clark, Jason and I today as we go down one of my favorite rivers and Jason goes for the first time!
