Jimmy did NOT do a poor job with Mike's recanting of his testimony regarding Tuco's gun, indeed he accomplished more than what was expected: The original deal with Hector was that Mike would claim the gun was his so Tuco couldn't get convicted on the gun charge, which would have left Mike open to charges of carrying an unlicensed firearm with only Hector's possibly over-optimistic reassurance of "You're an ex-cop, they go easy on you" to fall back on. Jimmy improved the situation by having Mike change his testimony only to claim that the gun was not Tuco's, without making any claims that it was his (Mike's) and outright refusing to provide any explanation of where the gun then came from. This way, the DA could not charge Mike with possessing the weapon without independently linking it to him, which everyone in that room knew would be a futile effort. This way, the DA knows full well Mike is being coerced and/or bribed to change his testimony to free Tuco of the gun charge, but they can't prove it nor thus do anything about it.

I'm of two minds about the masculinity conversation at the end there. Particularly on the necessity of a father needing to show assertiveness in that way. There's a point where selflessness and seeing the good in people can fuck you over. Especially to the point where you're clearly being made a sucker. However, he makes the choice to just take people at their word. Someone who's scamming you for 5 bucks is someone who felt the need to be pitiful for a petty amount of money. No matter how shitty it feels to be made a fool of, it's kinda low stakes. His choice in that moment came from a need to help someone out. I think it's a good contrast in that you called out that the guy felt cool about his wolves and sheep metaphor. That guy isn't cool and his philosophy is just as bogus and Jimmy took a poor lesson from it. From a business standpoint, Jimmy's dad should clearly not handle the money or go into the non-profit sector. His dad was more kind and trusting rather than a pushover. It's also a good to compare it to the type of masculinity Walt demonstrated. His whole arc was a demonstration of the thought process of what a man "must be" and his reaction to his own disappointment with his failing to live up to it. He didn't replace it with a healthy masculinity. He just ended up alienating all of his loved ones.

Omg, such a brilliant observation about the possibility that Chuck mistook the reason for the missing money from their dad’s shop. I’ve never heard anyone else think that either. I wonder if I’m just forgetting something or if there was a confirmation that Jimmy had stolen it, like if he fessed up or something.

@@sivannatalie I think the writing is explicity trying to make it ambiguous here. The fact that they don’t give a definite answer to that, makes this arc so much better IMO.

It's kind of funny to me as someone who's going to be 62 on the 26th of september, that Kailyn thinks, from her reaction that Jimmy being so young was able to know the dudes a grifter. I was seven and a pedophile tried taking me and I knew not to go with him. You figure out things when you're young, I would have caught that in a heartbeat. Just saying. My experiences growing up and my parenting was above the bar, you have to remember we were outside all day long make sure you're home by 5:00 which is supper time, or maybe bring your friends over at noon I'm having lunch for everyone let everybody's mother know. We will let loose in the wild, and don't think that it's different today, because it's not we had the same crap going on back in the day but she didn't hear about it as much. We had 2 pedophiles with any 4 block area of my house, it was just known among the kids. We want for the food and snacks but left before the weird s*** happened, unfortunately some kids in our neighborhood didn't. We learned so fast, there was even one cop we were almost sure that was a pedophile. kailyn, I am definitely not saying that you are not intelligent because I know you are, kids are way smarter than you think.

Without spoiling anything Jimmy will still get 20% of the final settlement with Sandpiper from HHM(a finder's fee)
@Tusc99694 ай бұрын
Jimmy wasn't happy with Cliff. Jimmy's the kind of guy that does things HIS way.....not anyone else's way. He tried to do things his way when he ran the commercial. That didn't turn out well. Then he was being micromanaged by the perfect, nit picky, annoying office mole: Erin. Jimmy felt undervalued, treated as a "second-class" lawyer, and was not given the respect or opportunities he deserved, despite his talent and ability to win cases; this frustration ultimately led to his transformation into the more aggressive and morally flexible "Saul Goodman."
@SkelechickenLives5 ай бұрын
So a non-spoilery clarification of where this puts Jimmy in regards to the big Sandpiper case based only on details we already know from the show. Tracking the case can be a little complicated. This is only where we stand now and not indicative of where we go. As things stand so far Jimmy was promised a big one-time payment and a percentage of the common fund, which is to say the ultimate payout, as a condition for giving the case to HHM. That agreement still stands. He managed to get back on the case by getting hired by Davis and Main, who were brought in by HHM to help as the case grew increasingly complex. Having lost that job he is no longer directly on the case unless he is included again by either HHM or Davis and Main, but his initial agreement with HHM is still in effect so in that way he is still connected to the case.

Not sure where you're up to now, but I concur with other commenters who say ditch the subtitles and focus on the faces. There is SO much in just about every character's facial expressions and reaction shots. But ultimately, you do you.

It's a bit silly. My grandmother was the most loving person on Earth, but it did also mean she was taken advantage of by people. That's the risk you take by being open-hearted and kind. But she had SO MANY people who loved her and appreciated and remembered her kindness, and I'm sure that's the same with Jimmy's dad. Jimmy remembers the times his dad was a "sucker" instead of all the times his dad was generous to someone who truly appreciated it. I bet the latter far outweighed the former.

31:00 I think Eric is on the money in how Kim and Skylar are kind of opposites in likeability.
@RestlessTome4 ай бұрын
A lot of people hated on Skyler (why does everyone misspell her name?) for ridiculous reasons. Her character was fine, and most of the time she was in the right. Her likeability varied, but the issue was that from the get go her character was placed in opposition to the protagonist, which a lot of people, especially men, associated with. For that reason, it was harder for her to be likeable on the whole. Kim is different for multiple reasons. First, her character is never presented as 'just' the wife of the protagonist, standing in his way or overly overshadowing him. She is a character on her own and has her own storyline and evolution throughout the show. Also, her relationship with Jimmy is very much atypical. It has a touch of playfulness, but it's more mature than the stereotypical crap we usually see on television. They also have much better chemistry than Walter and Skyler. Their dynamic is a lot more interesting. But back to Kim... she's just awesome. She's an amazing character and I can't wait to see Rhea in Gilligan's next show. 🙂
